2 Samuel 23:17

English Standard Version

17 and said, “Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things the three mighty men did. (Le 17:10) 

New International Version

17 ‘Far be it from me, Lord, to do this!’ he said. ‘Is it not the blood of men who went at the risk of their lives?’ And David would not drink it. Such were the exploits of the three mighty warriors. 

New International Reader’s Version

17 ‘LORD, I would never drink that water!’ David said. ‘It stands for the blood of these men. They put their lives in danger by going to Bethlehem to get it.’ So David wouldn’t drink it. Those were some of the brave things the three mighty warriors did. 

King James Version

17 And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.
