2 Samuel 17:14

English Standard Version

14 And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, “The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel.” For the Lord had ordained[1] to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, so that the Lord might bring harm upon Absalom. (2Sa 15:31; 2Sa 15:34)

New International Version

14 Absalom and all the men of Israel said, ‘The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than that of Ahithophel.’ For the Lord had determined to frustrate the good advice of Ahithophel in order to bring disaster on Absalom.

New International Reader’s Version

14 Absalom and all the men of Israel agreed. They said, ‘The advice of Hushai, the Arkite, is better than the advice of Ahithophel.’ The LORD had decided that Ahithophel’s good advice would fail. The LORD wanted to bring horrible trouble on Absalom.

King James Version

14 And Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai the Archite is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.
