19 But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.” 

New International Version

19 David noticed that his attendants were whispering among themselves, and he realised that the child was dead. ‘Is the child dead?’ he asked. ‘Yes,’ they replied, ‘he is dead.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

19 David saw that his attendants were whispering to one another. Then he realised the child was dead. ‘Has the child died?’ he asked. ‘Yes’, they replied. ‘He’s dead.’ 

King James Version

19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
