English Standard Version

16 David therefore sought God on behalf of the child. And David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. (2Sa 13:31; 1Ki 21:27) 

New International Version

16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth[1] on the ground. 

New International Reader’s Version

16 David begged God to heal the child. David didn’t eat anything. He spent his nights lying on the ground. He put on the rough clothes people wear when they’re sad. 

King James Version

16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.
