5 For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, (Ge 1:6; Ge 1:9; Ps 24:2; Ps 33:6; Ps 136:6; Heb 11:3) 

New International Version

5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 

New International Reader’s Version

5 Long ago, God’s word brought the heavens into being. His word separated the earth from the waters. And the waters surrounded it. But these people forget things like that on purpose.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
