2 Kings 17:3

English Standard Version

3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria. And Hoshea became his vassal and paid him tribute. (2Ki 18:9; Ho 10:14) 

New International Version

3 Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up to attack Hoshea, who had been Shalmaneser’s vassal and had paid him tribute. 

New International Reader’s Version

3 Shalmaneser came up to attack Hoshea. Shalmaneser was king of Assyria. He had been Hoshea’s master. He had forced Hoshea to bring him gifts. 

King James Version

3 Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents.
