2 Corinthians 1:9

9 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. (Ps 2:12; Ps 25:2; Ps 26:1; Lu 18:9; 2Co 4:14) 

New International Version

9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. 

New International Reader’s Version

9 In fact, we felt as if we were under the sentence of death. But that happened so that we would not depend on ourselves but on God. He raises the dead to life.

9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:
