8 The cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim made a covering above the ark and its poles. 

New International Version

8 The cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark and covered the ark and its carrying poles. 

New International Reader’s Version

8 The cherubim’s wings were spread out over the place where the ark was. They covered the ark. They also covered the poles used to carry it. 

King James Version

8 For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.
