3 He took away the foreign altars and the high places and broke down the pillars and cut down the Asherim (Ex 23:24; Ex 34:13; 1Ki 15:14; 2Ch 15:17) 

New International Version

3 He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.[1] 

New International Reader’s Version

3 Asa removed the altars where false gods were worshipped. He took away the high places. He smashed the sacred stones. He cut down the poles used to worship the female god named Asherah. 

King James Version

3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods , and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
