16 And Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, “May[1] the Lord take vengeance on David’s enemies.” (Jos 22:23; 1Sa 25:22) 

New International Version

16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, ‘May the Lord call David’s enemies to account.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

16 So Jonathan made a covenant of friendship with David and his family. He said, ‘May the LORD hold David’s enemies responsible for what they’ve done.’ 

King James Version

16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying , Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David' enemies.
