17 Thus the sin of the young men was very great in the sight of the Lord, for the men treated the offering of the Lord with contempt. (Ge 6:11; Mal 2:8) 

New International Version

17 This sin of the young men was very great in the Lord’s sight, for they[1] were treating the Lord’s offering with contempt. 

New International Reader’s Version

17 That sin of Eli’s sons was very great in the LORD’s sight. That’s because they were not treating his offering with respect. 

King James Version

17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.
