13 So Saul removed him from his presence and made him a commander of a thousand. And he went out and came in before the people. (Nu 27:17; 1Sa 18:16; 2Sa 5:2) 

New International Version

13 So he sent David away from him and gave him command over a thousand men, and David led the troops in their campaigns. 

New International Reader’s Version

13 He sent David away. He put him in command of 1,000 men. David led the troops in battle. 

King James Version

13 Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
