32 Then Samuel said, “Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites.” And Agag came to him cheerfully.[1] Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.” 

New International Version

32 Then Samuel said, ‘Bring me Agag king of the Amalekites.’ Agag came to him in chains.[1] And he thought, ‘Surely the bitterness of death is past.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

32 Then Samuel said, ‘Bring me Agag, the king of the Amalekites.’ Agag was in chains when he came to Samuel. Agag thought, ‘The time for me to be put to death must have passed by now.’ 

King James Version

32 Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.
