English Standard Version

39 For as the Lord lives who saves Israel, though it be in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him. (Ru 3:13; 1Sa 14:44) 

New International Version

39 As surely as the Lord who rescues Israel lives, even if the guilt lies with my son Jonathan, he must die.’ But not one of them said a word. 

New International Reader’s Version

39 The LORD is the one who rescues Israel. You can be sure that the LORD lives. And you can be just as sure that the sinner must die. He must die even if he’s my son Jonathan.’ But no one said anything. 

King James Version
