3 The elders of Jabesh said to him, “Give us seven days’ respite that we may send messengers through all the territory of Israel. Then, if there is no one to save us, we will give ourselves up to you.” 

New International Version

3 The elders of Jabesh said to him, ‘Give us seven days so that we can send messengers throughout Israel; if no-one comes to rescue us, we will surrender to you.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

3 The elders of Jabesh said to him, ‘Give us seven days to report back to you. We’ll send messengers all through Israel. If no one comes to save us, we’ll hand ourselves over to you.’ 

King James Version

3 And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days'respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.
