8 and “A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. (Isa 8:14; Ro 9:22; Ro 9:33; Jud 1:4) 

New International Version

8 and, ‘A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.’ They stumble because they disobey the message – which is also what they were destined for. (Isa 8:14) 

New International Reader’s Version

8 And, ‘It is a stone that causes people to trip. It is a rock that makes them fall.’ They trip and fall because they do not obey the message. That is also what God planned for them. (Isa 8:14) 

King James Version

8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
