4 And along with them, by their generations, according to their fathers’ houses, were units of the army for war, 36,000, for they had many wives and sons. 

New International Version

4 According to their family genealogy, they had 36,000 men ready for battle, for they had many wives and children. 

New International Reader’s Version

4 According to their family history, 36,000 of their men were ready for battle. That’s because they had many wives and children. 

King James Version

4 And with them, by their generations, after the house of their fathers, were bands of soldiers for war, six and thirty thousand men : for they had many wives and sons.
