2 Then King David rose to his feet and said: “Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for the footstool of our God, and I made preparations for building. (1Ch 22:7; Ps 99:5; Ps 110:1; Ps 132:7; Isa 66:1; La 2:1)

2 King David rose to his feet and said: ‘Listen to me, my fellow Israelites, my people. I had it in my heart to build a house as a place of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God, and I made plans to build it.

New International Reader’s Version

2 King David stood up. He said, ‘All of you Israelites, listen to me. With all my heart I wanted to build a house for the LORD. I wanted it to be a place of peace and rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD. The ark is the stool for our God’s feet. I made plans to build the LORD’s house.
