English Standard Version

6 Then David put garrisons[1] in Syria of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the Lord gave victory to David[2] wherever he went. 

New International Version

6 He put garrisons in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to him and brought him tribute. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went. 

New International Reader’s Version

6 David stationed some soldiers in the Aramean kingdom of Damascus. The people of Aram were brought under his rule. They gave him the gifts he required them to bring him. The LORD helped David win his battles wherever he went. 

King James Version

6 Then David put garrisons in Syriadamascus; and the Syrians became David' servants, and brought gifts. Thus the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.
