Ježiš uzdraví človeka s nevládnou rukou

1 Keď Ježiš opäť vstúpil do synagógy, zbadal tam človeka s nevládnou rukou. 2 Bola práve sobota, a preto Ježišovi odporcovia napäto striehli, čo urobí. Ak postihnutého uzdraví, budú mať výbornú príležitosť obžalovať ho a zatknúť. 3 A naozaj, Ježiš chorého vyzval, aby vystúpil dopredu, 4 a potom sa spýtal prítomných: „Smie sa v sobotu konať dobro alebo nie? Môže sa v tento deň život zachrániť, alebo nechať ho zahynúť?“ Ale nikto mu neodpovedal. 5 Premeral si všetkých nahnevaným pohľadom, lebo ich bezcitnosť a ľahostajnosť k ľudskému utrpeniu ho roztrpčila. Potom sa obrátil k mrzákovi a povedal: „Vystri ruku!“ Muž poslúchol a ruku mal zase zdravú. 6 Farizeji hneď opustili synagógu a spolu s prívržencami kráľa Herodesa začali kuť plány, ako Ježiša odstrániť.

Uzdravovanie pri jazere

7 Ježiš sa opäť utiahol s učeníkmi ku Genezaretskému jazeru. Znova ho nasledovali veľké davy ľudí z celej Galiley, z Judska, 8 z Jeruzalema, z Idumey, zo Zajordánska, ba prichádzalo veľké množstvo ľudí aj z okolia pohanských miest Týru a Sidona. Zvesť o zázrakoch, ktoré konal, sa totiž rozniesla široko–ďaleko, a veľmi mnohí sa chceli o nich presvedčiť na vlastné oči. 9 Poprosil učeníkov, aby mu pripravili čln, na ktorý by sa uchýlil, ak by ho zástupy veľmi tlačili. 10 Mnohých už totiž uzdravil, a všetci, ktorí trpeli nejakým neduhom, hrnuli sa k nemu, aby sa ho aspoň dotkli. 11 A ľudia posadnutí démonom, len čo ho zbadali, padali pred ním na zem a kričali: „Ty si Boží Syn!“ 12 Ale on ich prísne umlčal, nestál o ich svedectvo.

Ježiš si povolá dvanástich apoštolov

13 Potom si zavolal k sebe tých, ktorých si sám vyvolil, a vystúpil s nimi hore do kopcov. 14 Z nich si zvolil dvanástich, ktorí mali zostať stále s ním, aby ich potom mohol poslať samostatne kázať, 15 uzdravovať a vyháňať démonov. 16 Boli to: Šimon, ktorému dal meno Peter, 17 Zebedejovi synovia Jakub a Ján, ktorých volal Boanerges, čo znamená Synovia hromu, 18 Andrej, Filip, Bartolomej, Matúš, Tomáš, Jakub Alfejov, Tadej, Šimon Kanaánsky 19 a Judáš Iškariotský, ktorý ho neskôr zradil.

Ježiša obviňujú, že má satanskú moc

20 Keď sa Ježiš vrátil do domu, znova sa ta nahrnul veľký zástup ľudí a čoskoro ich bolo toľko, že sa nemal ani kedy najesť. 21 Len čo sa o tom dopočuli jeho príbuzní, vypravili sa za ním a chceli ho donútiť, aby sa vrátil domov. Mysleli si, že prišiel o rozum. 22 A učitelia Zákona, ktorí prišli z Jeruzalema, dokonca tvrdili, že sa upísal Belzebulovi, kniežaťu démonov, a vyháňa nečistých duchov démonskou silou. 23 Tu si ich dal Ježiš zavolať a pokúšal sa im to vysvetliť obrazne: „Ako môže satan vyháňať satana? 24 Kráľovstvo, ktoré je vnútorne rozdelené, sa musí zrútiť. 25 Aj rodina, kde vládnu sváry a roztržky, sa rozpadne. 26 A ak satan bojuje proti sebe samému, čo zmôže? Nevyhnutne musí prísť jeho koniec. 27 A ak chce niekto vtrhnúť do domu mocného majiteľa a chce ho orabovať, musí ho najprv spútať. Tak aj démonov môže vyháňať len ten, kto premohol satana. 28 No o jednom vás môžem ubezpečiť: Každý hriech môže byť človeku odpustený, aj to, ak sa v nevedomosti rúha Bohu. 29 Ale ak niekto vedome zavrhuje zachraňujúcu Božiu moc, rúha sa tým Duchu Svätému, a to je najťažší hriech, ten mu nebude odpustený nikdy.“ 30 To im povedal preto, lebo jeho zázraky pripisovali satanskej moci, a nie moci Svätého Ducha.

Kto patrí do Ježišovej rodiny

31 K preplnenému domu, kde Ježiš učil, prišli jeho bratia s matkou a odkázali mu, že sa chcú s ním zhovárať. 32 „Tvoja matka, tvoje sestry a tvoji bratia sú vonku a hľadajú ťa!“ oznámil mu ktosi zo zástupu, ktorý ho obklopoval. 33 „Kto je moja matka a kto sú moji bratia?“ spýtal sa ich. 34 Potom sa rozhliadol po ľuďoch okolo seba a povedal: „Tu je moja matka a tu sú moji bratia. 35 Každý, kto koná podľa Božej vôle, je mojím bratom, mojou sestrou i mojou matkou.“

A Man with a Withered Hand

1 Again he entered the synagogue, and a man was there with a withered hand. 2 And they watched Jesus,* to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse him. 3 And he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come here.” 4 And he said to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to kill?” But they were silent. 5 And he looked around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, and said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was restored. 6 The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him.

A Great Crowd Follows Jesus

7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea 8 and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. 9 And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, 10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. 11 And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

The Twelve Apostles

13 And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach 15 and have authority to cast out demons. 16 He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); 18 Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot,* 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. 20 Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. 21 And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.”

Blasphemy Against the Holy Spirit

22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” 23 And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. 26 And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. 28 “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”— 30 for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

31 And his mother and his brothers came, and standing outside they sent to him and called him. 32 And a crowd was sitting around him, and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers* are outside, seeking you.” 33 And he answered them, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” 34 And looking about at those who sat around him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God, he is my brother and sister and mother.”
