Mensaje para Amón

1 ¿Qué es lo que hacen? ¿Por qué moran los amonitas en las ciudades de los israelitas? ¿No hay acaso israelitas suficientes? ¿No se las di a ellos como herencia? ¿Por qué entonces ustedes, adoradores de Moloc, se han apoderado de Gad y todas sus ciudades? 2 Por esto los castigaré, dice el SEÑOR, destruyendo su ciudad de Rabá. Esta se convertirá en montón de ruinas y los pueblos aledaños serán incendiados. Entonces vendrá Israel y volverá a tomar de ustedes su tierra. Despojará a quienes la despojaron, dice el SEÑOR. 3 ¡Clama, Hesbón, porque la ciudad de Hai ha sido destruida! ¡Solloza, población de Rabá, vístete de luto, solloza y gime, oculta entre los matorrales, porque tu dios Moloc será desterrado junto con sus príncipes y sacerdotes! 4 Orgullosa estás de tus fértiles valles, pero pronto serán arrasados. ¡Hija perversa, confiabas en tus riquezas y pensabas que nadie podía perjudicarte jamás! 5 Pero mira, sobre ti desencadenaré desastres y te llenarás de miedo, dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos, porque todos tus vecinos te echarán de tu tierra y no habrá quien ayude a tus exiliados cuando huyan. 6 Pero yo ayudaré a los amonitas en el futuro para que puedan volver a su tierra, dice el SEÑOR.

Mensaje para Edom

7 El SEÑOR de los ejércitos dice: ¿Qué se hicieron todos tus sabios del pasado? ¿No quedó ni uno en todo Temán? ¿No hay nadie que pueda dar un consejo prudente? 8 Huye a lo más recóndito del desierto, pueblo de Dedán, porque cuando yo castigue a Edom, también te castigaré a ti. ¡Se acerca la hora de rendir cuentas! 9 Los vendimiadores dejan unas cuantas uvas para los pobres; ni siquiera los ladrones se lo llevan todo, ¡pero yo dejaré desnuda la tierra de Esaú, y no habrá donde esconderse! Sus hijos e hijas, hermanos, vecinos —todos serán destruidos— y ella también perecerá. 11 (Pero yo cuidaré de tus huérfanos que queden, y haré que sus viudas confíen en mí). 12 Esto dice el SEÑOR a Edom: Si han de sufrir los inocentes, ¡cuánto más tú! ¡No te librarás! ¡Tienes que sufrir todas las consecuencias del juicio que te he preparado! 13 ¡Pues por mi propia fama he jurado, dice el SEÑOR, que Bosra se convertirá en montón de ruinas, maldecida y humillada, y todas sus ciudades quedarán convertidas en ruinas y nunca más serán habitadas! 14 He recibido este mensaje de parte del SEÑOR: Él ha enviado un mensajero para que convoque a los pueblos para que formen una coalición contra Edom y la destruyan. 15 Porque sin duda que eres insignificante entre los países de la región, sin que nadie se cuide de ti. 16 Tu fama y tu orgullo son sólo un engaño, moradora de los montes de Petra, tú que vives en las hendiduras que hay entre las rocas. Pero aunque mores en las montañas más altas con las águilas, yo de ahí te haré caer, dice el SEÑOR. 17 ¡Horrible será el destino de Edom; todos los que por allí pasen quedarán espantados, boquiabiertos ante el desolador espectáculo! 18 Tus ciudades quedarán tan mal paradas como Sodoma, Gomorra y los pueblos aledaños, dice el SEÑOR. Jamás volverá nadie a vivir allí. 19 Contra ellos enviaré a uno que vendrá como el león de los montes de Jordania que rastrea las ovejas del redil. Súbitamente Edom será destruida, y yo haré que los edomitas sean gobernados por un elegido mío. Pues ¿quién como yo, y quién podrá llamarme a cuentas? 20 ¿Qué pastor podrá desafiarme? Ténganlo presente: ¡Tengan por seguro que les hará esto el SEÑOR a Edom y al pueblo de Temán! ¡Hasta a los niñitos se los llevarán como esclavos! Eso será horrible de ver. 21 Retiembla la tierra al caer Edom; el griterío de miedo y dolor del pueblo llega hasta el Mar Rojo. 22 El que ha de venir volará veloz como un águila y extenderá sus alas contra Bosra. ¡Entonces el valor de los más fuertes guerreros se desvanecerá como el de mujer ante los dolores del parto!

Mensaje para Damasco

23 ¡Presas de temor están las ciudades de Jamat y Arfad, porque les llegó la noticia de su sentencia! Tienen el corazón latiendo acelerado por el miedo como si fuera un mar agitado. 24 Damasco se ha debilitado y todo su pueblo se da a la fuga. El miedo, la angustia y el dolor la atenazan como a mujer con dolores de parto. 25 ¡Oh famosa ciudad, metrópolis de la alegría, qué desolada estás! 26 Por tus calles están tendidos los cadáveres de tus jóvenes, todo tu ejército será destruido en un solo día, dice el SEÑOR de los ejércitos. 27 Y haré estallar un incendio que acabe con las murallas de Damasco así como con los palacios de Ben Adad.

Mensaje para Cedar y Jazor

28 Esta profecía se refiere a Cedar y a los reinos de Jazor, los que van a ser destruidos por Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, porque el SEÑOR lo enviará para destruirlos. 29 Sus rebaños y las tiendas donde habitan serán tomados como botín, dice el SEÑOR, junto con todas sus demás posesiones. Se llevarán también sus camellos y en torno sólo habrá gritos de pánico: «¡Estamos sitiados y condenados!». Incluso a la ciudad se le llamará«Lugar donde vive el miedo». 30 ¡Sálvese quien pueda, dice el SEÑOR, huye a lo más recóndito del desierto, pueblo de Jazor, porque Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, ha trazado planes de guerra contra ti y se prepara para destruirte! 31 «¡Ve!», le dijo el SEÑOR al rey Nabucodonosor, «ataca a esas ricas tribus beduinas que viven sin vecinos en el desierto, libres de toda preocupación, jactándose de bastarse a sí mismas, de que no necesitan ningún tipo especial de protección. 32 Sus camellos y ganados te pertenecerán y yo esparciré a estos paganos por los cuatro vientos. De todos los rumbos haré que les lleguen desgracias». 33 Jazor se convertirá en morada de alimañas del desierto. Jamás volverá a morar nadie allí. Para siempre sólo será un montón de ruinas.

Mensaje para Elam

34 Este mensaje del SEÑOR contra Elam le llegó a Jeremías al comienzo del reinado de Sedequías, rey de Judá: 35 El SEÑOR de los ejércitos dice: Destruiré el ejército de Elam 36 y esparciré al pueblo de Elam por los cuatro vientos; serán exiliados a países de todo el mundo. 37 ¡Mi terrible cólera traerá grandes males contra Elam, dice el SEÑOR, y haré que sus enemigos la aniquilen! Ni siquiera se podrán defender pues caerán de puro miedo ante sus enemigos. 38 Yo estableceré mi trono en Elam, dice el SEÑOR, destruiré a su rey y a sus príncipes. 39 Pero después de un tiempo traeré de regreso al pueblo, dice el SEÑOR.

Judgment on Ammon

1 Concerning the Ammonites. Thus says the Lord: “Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then has Milcom* dispossessed Gad, and his people settled in its cities? 2 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will cause the battle cry to be heard against Rabbah of the Ammonites; it shall become a desolate mound, and its villages shall be burned with fire; then Israel shall dispossess those who dispossessed him, says the Lord. 3 “Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste! Cry out, O daughters of Rabbah! Put on sackcloth, lament, and run to and fro among the hedges! For Milcom shall go into exile, with his priests and his officials. 4 Why do you boast of your valleys,* O faithless daughter, who trusted in her treasures, saying, ‘Who will come against me?’ 5 Behold, I will bring terror upon you, declares the Lord God of hosts, from all who are around you, and you shall be driven out, every man straight before him, with none to gather the fugitives. 6 “But afterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites, declares the Lord.”

Judgment on Edom

7 Concerning Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished? 8 Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan! For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time when I punish him. 9 If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings? If thieves came by night, would they not destroy only enough for themselves? 10 But I have stripped Esau bare; I have uncovered his hiding places, and he is not able to conceal himself. His children are destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors; and he is no more. 11 Leave your fatherless children; I will keep them alive; and let your widows trust in me.” 12 For thus says the Lord: “If those who did not deserve to drink the cup must drink it, will you go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you must drink. 13 For I have sworn by myself, declares the Lord, that Bozrah shall become a horror, a taunt, a waste, and a curse, and all her cities shall be perpetual wastes.” 14 I have heard a message from the Lord, and an envoy has been sent among the nations: “Gather yourselves together and come against her, and rise up for battle! 15 For behold, I will make you small among the nations, despised among mankind. 16 The horror you inspire has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who live in the clefts of the rock,* who hold the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle’s, I will bring you down from there, declares the Lord. 17 “Edom shall become a horror. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified and will hiss because of all its disasters. 18 As when Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities were overthrown, says the Lord, no man shall dwell there, no man shall sojourn in her. 19 Behold, like a lion coming up from the jungle of the Jordan against a perennial pasture, I will suddenly make him* run away from her. And I will appoint over her whomever I choose. For who is like me? Who will summon me? What shepherd can stand before me? 20 Therefore hear the plan that the Lord has made against Edom and the purposes that he has formed against the inhabitants of Teman: Even the little ones of the flock shall be dragged away. Surely their fold shall be appalled at their fate. 21 At the sound of their fall the earth shall tremble; the sound of their cry shall be heard at the Red Sea. 22 Behold, one shall mount up and fly swiftly like an eagle and spread his wings against Bozrah, and the heart of the warriors of Edom shall be in that day like the heart of a woman in her birth pains.”

Judgment on Damascus

23 Concerning Damascus: “Hamath and Arpad are confounded, for they have heard bad news; they melt in fear, they are troubled like the sea that cannot be quiet. 24 Damascus has become feeble, she turned to flee, and panic seized her; anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in labor. 25 How is the famous city not forsaken, the city of my joy? 26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her squares, and all her soldiers shall be destroyed in that day, declares the Lord of hosts. 27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the strongholds of Ben-hadad.”

Judgment on Kedar and Hazor

28 Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck down. Thus says the Lord: “Rise up, advance against Kedar! Destroy the people of the east! 29 Their tents and their flocks shall be taken, their curtains and all their goods; their camels shall be led away from them, and men shall cry to them: ‘Terror on every side!’ 30 Flee, wander far away, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Hazor! declares the Lord. For Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has made a plan against you and formed a purpose against you. 31 “Rise up, advance against a nation at ease, that dwells securely, declares the Lord, that has no gates or bars, that dwells alone. 32 Their camels shall become plunder, their herds of livestock a spoil. I will scatter to every wind those who cut the corners of their hair, and I will bring their calamity from every side of them, declares the Lord. 33 Hazor shall become a haunt of jackals, an everlasting waste; no man shall dwell there; no man shall sojourn in her.”

Judgment on Elam

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah. 35 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. 36 And I will bring upon Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven. And I will scatter them to all those winds, and there shall be no nation to which those driven out of Elam shall not come. 37 I will terrify Elam before their enemies and before those who seek their life. I will bring disaster upon them, my fierce anger, declares the Lord. I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them, 38 and I will set my throne in Elam and destroy their king and officials, declares the Lord. 39 “But in the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam, declares the Lord.”
