1Este es el mensaje del SEÑOR de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, contra Moab: ¡Ay de la ciudad de Nebo, pues quedará en ruinas! La ciudad de Quiriatayin y sus fuertes defensivos son derribados y tomados.2Jamás volverá nadie a jactarse respecto a Moab, pues hay un complot contra la vida de ella. En Hesbón se han trazado planes para destruirla. «Vengan», dicen, «la haremos desaparecer como nación». En Madmén reina el silencio. Luego surgirá contra Joronayin un rumor de batalla, pues todo Moab está siendo aniquilado. Su clamor llegará hasta Zoar.5Sus refugiados subirán por las laderas de Luhit llorando amargamente, mientras de la ciudad que han dejado se escuchan gritos de terror.6¡Sálvese quien pueda; ocúltense en el desierto!7Porque confiaron en su riqueza y sus habilidades, por lo tanto morirán. Su dios Quemós, junto con sus sacerdotes y príncipes, será llevado a tierras lejanas.8Todos los pueblos y ciudades, tanto las que se localizan en las mesetas o en los valles, serán destruidos, porque el SEÑOR lo ha decidido.9¡Ay, que Moab tuviera alas para escapar, pues no quedará en sus ciudades persona con vida!10¡Malditos quienes refrenan sus espadas de derramar la sangre de ustedes, negándose a realizar la obra que el SEÑOR les ha encomendado!11Desde su más temprana historia, Moab ha vivido en su lugar, libre de toda invasión. Es como vino que no ha sido trasvasado y conserva su fragancia y suavidad. ¡Pero ahora será derramado en el destierro!12¡Pronto llegará el día, ha dicho el SEÑOR, cuando él enviará atormentadores que lo trasvasen de cántaro en cántaro, y luego quebrará los cántaros!13Entonces por fin Moab será avergonzado debido a su ídolo Quemós, tal y como lo fue Israel por su idolátrico becerro en Betel.14¿Recuerdas cómo se vanagloriaban: «Somos héroes, poderosos hombres de guerra»?15Pero ahora Moab tiene que ser destruido; ya viene su destructor. La flor de su juventud está destinada a la matanza, dice el Rey, el SEÑOR de los ejércitos.16La desgracia y el dolor se acercan veloces sobre Moab.17¡Amigos de Moab: sollocen y lloren por ella! ¡Vean cómo es destrozada la hermosa y fuerte, la famosa!18Bajen de su gloria y siéntense en el polvo, pueblo de Dibón, porque quienes destruyen a Moab también a Dibón destrozarán y derribarán todas sus torres defensivas.19Los de Aroer observan con ansiedad apostados junto al camino, y gritan a los que pasan huyendo de Moab: «¿Qué pasó allá?».20Y ellos responden: «¡Moab está en ruinas; lloren y laméntense por ello! ¡Cuenten por las riberas del Arnón que Moab ha sido destruida!».21Todas las ciudades de la meseta quedaron también convertidas en ruinas, porque el juicio del SEÑOR ha caído sobre todas ellas: Holón, Yahaza, Mefat,22Dibón, Nebo, Bet Diblatayin,23Quiriatayin, Bet Gamul, Bet Megón,24Queriot, Bosra y todas las ciudades de la tierra de Moab, las lejanas y las cercanas.25¡Se acabó la fuerza de Moab: le arrancaron los cuernos, le quebraron los brazos!, dice el SEÑOR.26Tropiece y caiga como borracha, porque se ha rebelado contra el SEÑOR. Moab se revolcará en su vómito, sufriendo la burla de todos.27Y todo esto es porque hiciste sufrir a Israel, te burlabas de él como si hubiera sido sorprendido robando.28Pueblo de Moab, huye de tus ciudades y mora en cuevas como paloma que hace su nido en la hendidura de las peñas.29Todos hemos oído del orgullo de Moab, pues grande se cree. Sabemos de tu altivez, arrogancia y soberbio corazón: ¡eres muy engreída!30Yo conozco tu insolencia, ha dicho el SEÑOR, pero falsa es tu presunción y grande tu impotencia.31Sí, gimo de pesar por Moab y tengo el corazón lleno de tristeza por los habitantes de Quir Jeres.32Varones de Sibma, ricos en viñedos, lloro por ustedes más que por Jazer, porque el invasor ha destruido tus lindos viñedos, tan famosos en toda la región. Tu cosecha y vendimia han sido convertidas en un desastre.33El júbilo y la alegría se fueron de la fértil Moab. Ya los lagares no dan vino; no hay quien exprima las uvas bajo sus pies mientras entona canciones alegres. Gritos hay, sí, ¡pero no de alegría!34Se levantan en cambio horribles gritos de terror por todo el país, desde Hesbón hasta Elalé y Yahaza, desde Zoar hasta Joronayin y Eglat Selisiyá. Los prados de Nimrín han quedado desiertos.35Porque el SEÑOR dice: ¡Yo acabé con la práctica de ofrecer homenaje a los falsos dioses y la ofrenda de perfumes delicados a los ídolos que realiza Moab!36En mi corazón hay mucha pesadumbre por Moab y Quir Jeres, pues toda su prosperidad se ha esfumado en un dos por tres.37Angustiados, los hombres se rasuran la cabeza y la barba, se hieren el cuerpo y visten saco penitencial.38En todo hogar de Moab y en las calles habrá llanto y dolor porque descargué mi golpe y rompí a Moab como a cacharro viejo e inútil.39¡Cómo quedó quebrantada! ¡Oigan sus gemidos! ¡Miren la vergüenza de Moab! Porque ella constituye ahora ejemplo de horror y burla para sus vecinos.40El SEÑOR se levanta sobre el país de Moab como si fuera un águila en vuelo.41Sus ciudades han sido destruidas, sus fortalezas defensivas han sido tomadas. A sus más fuertes guerreros les tiembla el corazón de miedo como a mujer ante los dolores del parto.42Moab ha sido totalmente destruida, ya no volverá a ser nación, porque se ha jactado contra el SEÑOR.43¡Miedo, emboscadas y traición serán tu herencia, oh Moab! dice el SEÑOR.44El que huya caerá en una trampa y el que escape de esta caerá en un lazo de cazador. 1Concerning Moab. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Woe to Nebo, for it is laid waste! Kiriathaim is put to shame, it is taken; the fortress is put to shame and broken down;2the renown of Moab is no more. In Heshbon they planned disaster against her: ‘Come, let us cut her off from being a nation!’ You also, O Madmen, shall be brought to silence; the sword shall pursue you.3“A voice! A cry from Horonaim, ‘Desolation and great destruction!’4Moab is destroyed; her little ones have made a cry.5For at the ascent of Luhith they go up weeping;* for at the descent of Horonaim they have heard the distressed cry* of destruction.6Flee! Save yourselves! For the destroyer of Moab has come up against you; he has destroyed your strongholds.19Stand by the way and watch, O inhabitant of Aroer! Be like the dove that nests in the sides of the mouth of a gorge.29We have heard of the pride of Moab— he is very proud— of his loftiness, his pride, and his arrogance, and the haughtiness of his heart.30I know his insolence, declares the Lord; his boasts are false, his deeds are false.31Therefore I wail for Moab; I cry out for all Moab; for the men of Kir-hareseth I mourn.32More than for Jazer I weep for you, O vine of Sibmah! Your branches passed over the sea, reached to the Sea of Jazer; on your summer fruits and your grapes the destroyer has fallen.33Gladness and joy have been taken away from the fruitful land of Moab; I have made the wine cease from the winepresses; no one treads them with shouts of joy; the shouting is not the shout of joy.34“From the outcry at Heshbon even to Elealeh, as far as Jahaz they utter their voice, from Zoar to Horonaim and Eglath-shelishiyah. For the waters of Nimrim also have become desolate.35And I will bring to an end in Moab, declares the Lord, him who offers sacrifice in the high place and makes offerings to his god.36Therefore my heart moans for Moab like a flute, and my heart moans like a flute for the men of Kir-hareseth. Therefore the riches they gained have perished.37“For every head is shaved and every beard cut off. On all the hands are gashes, and around the waist is sackcloth.38On all the housetops of Moab and in the squares there is nothing but lamentation, for I have broken Moab like a vessel for which no one cares, declares the Lord.39How it is broken! How they wail! How Moab has turned his back in shame! So Moab has become a derision and a horror to all that are around him.”40For thus says the Lord: “Behold, one shall fly swiftly like an eagle and spread his wings against Moab;41the cities shall be taken and the strongholds seized. The heart of the warriors of Moab shall be in that day like the heart of a woman in her birth pains;42Moab shall be destroyed and be no longer a people, because he magnified himself against the Lord.43Terror, pit, and snare are before you, O inhabitant of Moab! declares the Lord.44He who flees from the terror shall fall into the pit, and he who climbs out of the pit shall be caught in the snare. For I will bring these things upon Moab, the year of their punishment, declares the Lord.45“In the shadow of Heshbon fugitives stop without strength, for fire came out from Heshbon, flame from the house of Sihon; it has destroyed the forehead of Moab, the crown of the sons of tumult.46Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh are undone, for your sons have been taken captive, and your daughters into captivity.47Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the latter days, declares the Lord.” Thus far is the judgment on Moab.
