1Este es el mensaje que el SEÑOR dio a Jeremías respecto a los filisteos de Gaza, antes que la ciudad fuera tomada por el ejército egipcio.2El SEÑOR dice: Del norte viene una inundación que cubrirá la tierra de los filisteos, la que destruirá sus ciudades y todo cuanto en ellas hay. Aterrorizados clamarán los hombres más valientes y todo el país sollozará.3¡Pero no es una inundación de aguas sino de soldados enemigos! Escuchen el tamborileo de las herraduras de los caballos y el estruendo de las ruedas al paso de los carros de guerra. ¡Huyen los padres sin volver siquiera la mirada a sus indefensos hijos,4porque ha llegado el tiempo en que todos los filisteos y sus aliados de Tiro y Sidón serán destruidos! Porque el SEÑOR aniquila a los filisteos, colonos provenientes de Caftor.5Arrasadas serán las ciudades de Gaza y Ascalón, y quedarán convertidas en ruinas. Descendientes de Anac, ¡cuán grande será su llanto y su duelo!6Espada del SEÑOR, ¿cuándo volverás a reposar de provocar tanta matanza? ¡Enváinate de nuevo; reposa y queda en paz!7Mas, ¿cómo ha de estarse quieta si el SEÑOR le ha dado una encomienda? Porque la ciudad de Ascalón y los que moran por la ribera del mar tienen que ser aniquilados.

Judgment on the Philistines
1The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down Gaza.2“Thus says the Lord: Behold, waters are rising out of the north, and shall become an overflowing torrent; they shall overflow the land and all that fills it, the city and those who dwell in it. Men shall cry out, and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels, the fathers look not back to their children, so feeble are their hands,4because of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains. For the Lord is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor.5Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon has perished. O remnant of their valley, how long will you gash yourselves?6Ah, sword of the Lord! How long till you are quiet? Put yourself into your scabbard; rest and be still!7How can it* be quiet when the Lord has given it a charge? Against Ashkelon and against the seashore he has appointed it.”
