Psalm 46 | Het Boek

1 Een lied van de Korachieten voor de koordirigent. Te zingen op de wijs van ‘De Jonkvrouwen.’

2 Bij God vinden wij bescherming, Hij is onze kracht. In de moeilijkste omstandigheden bleek steeds weer dat Hij ons te hulp komt.

3 Daarom kennen wij ook geen angst, al nam de aarde een andere positie in en al scheurden de bergen die op de zeebodem staan.

4 Laat het water maar bruisen en kolken, laten de bergen maar wankelen door de kracht van het water.

5 Jeruzalem verblijdt zich over haar rivier, de stad van God die het heiligste huis van God, de Allerhoogste, is.

6 God woont in haar, zij zal niet snel ten onder gaan. Elke dag opnieuw helpt God haar.

7 Volken voeren oorlogen en koninkrijken wankelen, maar wanneer God zijn stem verheft, krimpt zelfs de aarde ineen.

8 De Almachtige HERE is met ons. De God van Jakob beschermt ons.

9 Kom maar en kijk naar alles wat de HERE heeft gedaan. Hij richt verwoestingen aan op aarde.

10 Hij laat overal de oorlogen ophouden, breekt de wapens doormidden en verbrandt de strijdwagens.

11 ‘Word rustig en weet dat Ik God ben. Ik ben de Hoogste onder alle volken, de Grootste op de hele aarde.’

12 De Almachtige HERE is met ons, de God van Jakob beschermt ons.

God Is Our Fortress

1 To the choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth.* A Song. God is our refuge and strength, a very present* help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,

3 though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.

5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.

6 The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.

7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

8 Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth.

9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.

10 “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”

11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
