1Ah, you destroyer, who yourself have not been destroyed, you traitor, whom none has betrayed! When you have ceased to destroy, you will be destroyed; and when you have finished betraying, they will betray you.2O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble.3At the tumultuous noise peoples flee; when you lift yourself up, nations are scattered,4and your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers; as locusts leap, it is leapt upon.5The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness,6and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is Zion’s* treasure.7Behold, their heroes cry in the streets; the envoys of peace weep bitterly.8The highways lie waste; the traveler ceases. Covenants are broken; cities* are despised; there is no regard for man.9The land mourns and languishes; Lebanon is confounded and withers away; Sharon is like a desert, and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.10“Now I will arise,” says the Lord, “now I will lift myself up; now I will be exalted.11You conceive chaff; you give birth to stubble; your breath is a fire that will consume you.12And the peoples will be as if burned to lime, like thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.”13Hear, you who are far off, what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge my might.14The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: “Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Where is he who counted the towers?”19You will see no more the insolent people, the people of an obscure speech that you cannot comprehend, stammering in a tongue that you cannot understand.20Behold Zion, the city of our appointed feasts! Your eyes will see Jerusalem, an untroubled habitation, an immovable tent, whose stakes will never be plucked up, nor will any of its cords be broken.21But there the Lord in majesty will be for us a place of broad rivers and streams, where no galley with oars can go, nor majestic ship can pass.22For the Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the Lord is our king; he will save us.23Your cords hang loose; they cannot hold the mast firm in its place or keep the sail spread out. 1وای بر شما ای آشوریها كه همه را غارت میكنيد و پيمانهايی را كه با قومهای ديگر بستهايد زير پا میگذاريد. بزودی اين غارت و خيانت شما پايان خواهد يافت و آنگاه خود شما مورد غارت و خيانت واقع خواهيد شد.2ای خداوند، بر ما رحم كن، زيرا چشم اميد ما به توست. هر بامداد به ما قدرت عطا كن و ما را از سختی نجات ده.3دشمن وقتی صدايت را بشنود خواهد گريخت؛ زمانی كه تو برخيزی قومها پراكنده خواهند شد.4اموال دشمنان ما، مانند مزرعهای كه مورد هجوم ملخ واقع شده باشد، غارت خواهد گرديد.5خداوند بزرگ و والا است و بر همه چيز تسلط دارد. او اورشليم را از عدل و انصاف پر خواهد ساخت6و به قوم يهودا استحكام خواهد بخشيد. او هميشه از قوم خود حمايت میكند و به ايشان حكمت و بصيرت میبخشد. خداترسی گنج بزرگ ايشان است!7اما در حال حاضر فرستادگان قوم يهودا از شدت نااميدی گريانند، زيرا آشور تقاضای ايشان را برای صلح نپذيرفته است.8شاهراههای يهودا خراب شده و ديگر اثری از مسافران نيست. آشوریها پيمان صلح را زير پا نهادهاند* و به وعدههايی كه در حضور گواهان دادهاند توجهی ندارند؛ آنها به هيچكس اعتنا نمیكنند.9سرزمين اسرائيل از بين رفته، لبنان نابود شده، شارون به بيابان تبديل گشته و برگهای درختان باشان و كرمل ريخته است.
اخطار خداوند به دشمنان
10اما خداوند میفرمايد: «برمیخيزم و قدرت و توانايی خود را نشان میدهم!11ای آشوریها، هر چه تلاش كنيد سودی نخواهد داشت. نفس خودتان به آتش تبديل شده، شما را خواهد كشت.12سپاهيان شما مثل خارهايی كه در آتش انداخته میشوند، سوخته و خاكستر خواهند شد.13ای قومهايی كه دور هستيد، به آنچه كردهام توجه كنيد؛ و ای قومهايی كه نزديک هستيد، به قدرت من پی ببريد.»14گناهكاران و خدانشناسانی كه در اورشليم هستند از ترس میلرزند و فرياد برمیآورند: «كدام يک از ما میتواند از آتش سوزان و دائمی مجازات خدا جان به در برد؟»15كسی میتواند از اين آتش جان به در برد كه درستكار باشد و به راستی عمل نمايد، به خاطر منافع خود ظلم نكند، رشوه نگيرد، و با كسانی كه شرارت و جنايت میكنند همدست نشود.16چنين اشخاص در امنيت به سر خواهند برد و صخرههای مستحكم، پناهگاه ايشان خواهد بود.
آيندهٔ پرجلال
17بار ديگر چشمان شما پادشاهتان را در شكوه و زيبايیاش خواهد ديد و سرزمين وسيعی را كه او بر آن سلطنت میكند مشاهده خواهد كرد.18در آن زمان به روزهای ترسناكی كه در گذشته داشتيد فكر خواهيد كرد روزهايی كه سرداران آشور برجهای شما را میشمردند تا ببينند چقدر غنيمت میتوانند از شما به دست آورند.19ولی آن روزها گذشته است و از آن اجنبيان ستمگری كه زبانشان را نمیفهميديد ديگر اثری نيست.20به اورشليم، اين شهر جشنهای مقدس نگاه كنيد و ببينيد چگونه در صلح و امنيت به سر میبرد! اورشليم محكم و پا برجا خواهد بود درست مانند خيمهای كه ميخهايش كنده نمیشود و طنابهايش پاره نمیگردد.21خداوند پرجلال ما را همچون رودخانهای وسيع محافظت خواهد كرد تا هيچ دشمنی نتواند از آن عبور كرده، به ما يورش برد!22خداوند پادشاه و رهبر ماست؛ او از ما مراقبت خواهد كرد و ما را نجات خواهد داد.23طناب كشتیهای دشمن سست خواهد شد و پايههای دكل را نگه نخواهد داشت و افراد دشمن نخواهند توانست بادبانها را بكشند. ما تمام غنايم دشمن را به چنگ خواهيم آورد؛ حتی لنگان نيز سهمی از اين غنايم خواهند برد.24هر كه در سرزمين ما باشد ديگر نخواهد گفت: «بيمار هستم»؛ و تمام گناهان ساكنان اين سرزمين بخشيده خواهد شد.
