1Bundan sonra Avşalom kendisine bir savaş arabası, atlar ve önünde koşacak elli kişi hazırladı.2Sabah erkenden kalkıp kent kapısına giden yolun kenarında dururdu. Davasına baktırmak için krala gelen herkese seslenip, ‹‹Nerelisin?›› diye sorardı. Adam hangi İsrail oymağından geldiğini söylerdi.3Avşalom ona şöyle derdi: ‹‹Bak, ileri sürdüğün savlar doğru ve haklı. Ne var ki, kral adına seni dinleyecek kimse yok.››4Sonra konuşmasını şöyle sürdürürdü: ‹‹Keşke kral beni ülkeye yargıç atasa! Davası ya da sorunu olan herkes bana gelse, ben de ona hakkını versem!››5Biri önünde yüzüstü yere kapanmak üzere yaklaştı mı, Avşalom elini uzatıp adamı tutar, öperdi.6Davasına baktırmak için krala gelen İsrailliler'in hepsine böyle davrandı. Böylelikle İsrailliler'in gönlünü çeldi.7Dört yıl[1] sonra Avşalom krala, ‹‹İzin ver de Hevron'a gidip RAB'be adağımı yerine getireyim›› dedi,8‹‹Çünkü ben kulun Aram'ın Geşur Kenti'nde yaşarken, ‹RAB beni Yeruşalim'e geri getirirse, O'na Hevron'da[2] tapınacağım› diye adak adamıştım.››9-10Kral, ‹‹Esenlikle git›› dedi. Ne var ki, Hevron'a giden Avşalom bütün İsrail oymaklarına gizlice ulaklar göndererek şöyle dedi: ‹‹Boru sesini duyar duymaz, ‹Avşalom Hevron'da kral oldu› diyeceksiniz.››11Yeruşalim'den çağrılan iki yüz kişi olup bitenden haberleri olmaksızın, iyi niyetle Avşalom'la birlikte gittiler.12Avşalom kurbanları keserken, Davut'un danışmanı Gilolu Ahitofel'i de Gilo Kenti'nden getirtti. Böylece ayaklanma güç kazandı. Çünkü Avşalom'u izleyen halkın sayısı giderek çoğalıyordu.
Davut Yeruşalim'den Kaçıyor
13Bir ulak gelip Davut'a, ‹‹İsrailliler Avşalom'a yürekten bağlandı›› dedi.14Bunun üzerine Davut Yeruşalim'de kendisiyle birlikte olan bütün görevlilerine şöyle dedi: ‹‹Haydi kaçalım! Yoksa Avşalom'dan kaçıp kurtulamayacağız. Hemen gidelim! Yoksa Avşalom ardımızdan çabucak yetişip bizi yıkıma uğratır. Kenti de kılıçtan geçirir.››15Kralın görevlileri, ‹‹Efendimiz kral ne karar verirse yapmaya hazırız›› diye yanıtladılar.16Böylece kral ardısıra gelen bütün ev halkıyla birlikte yola koyuldu. Ancak saraya baksınlar diye on cariyesini orada bıraktı.17Kralla yanındakiler kentin en son evinde durdular.18Bütün kulları, Keretliler'le Peletliler kralın yanından geçtiler. Gat'tan ardısıra gelmiş olan altı yüz Gatlı asker de kralın önünden geçti.19Kral Gatlı İttay'a, ‹‹Neden sen de bizimle geliyorsun?›› dedi, ‹‹Geri dön ve yeni kralla kal. Çünkü sen yurdundan sürülmüş bir yabancısın.20Daha dün geldin. Bugün nereye gideceğimi kendim bilmezken, seni de bizimle birlikte mi dolaştırayım? Kardeşlerinle birlikte geri dön. Tanrı'nın sevgisi ve sadakati üzerinde olsun!››21Ama İttay şöyle yanıtladı: ‹‹Efendim kral, yaşayan RAB'bin adıyla ve yaşamın hakkı için derim ki, ister yaşam, ister ölüm için olsun, sen neredeysen kulun ben de orada olacağım.››22Davut İttay'a, ‹‹Yürü, geç!›› dedi. Böylece Gatlı İttay yanındaki bütün adamları ve çocuklarıyla birlikte geçti.23Halk geçerken, bütün yöre halkı hıçkıra hıçkıra ağlıyordu. Kral Kidron Vadisi'ni geçti. Halk da kırlara doğru ilerledi.24Kâhin Sadok'la Tanrı'nın Antlaşma Sandığı'nı taşıyan Levililer de oradaydı. Tanrı'nın Sandığı'nı yere koydular. Bütün halk kentten çıkana dek Aviyatar sunular sundu.25Sonra kral, Sadok'a, ‹‹Tanrı'nın Sandığı'nı kente geri götür›› dedi, ‹‹RAB benden hoşnut kalırsa, beni geri getirir, sandığı ve konduğu yeri bana gösterir.26Ama, ‹Senden hoşnut değilim› derse, işte buradayım, bana uygun gördüğünü yapsın.››27Kral Kâhin Sadok'la konuşmasını şöyle sürdürdü: ‹‹Sen bilici değil misin[3]? Oğlun[4] Ahimaas'ı ve Aviyatar oğlu Yonatan'ı yanına al; Aviyatar'la birlikte esenlikle kente dönün.28Sizden aydınlatıcı bir haber alana dek ben kırda, ırmağın sığ yerinde bekleyeceğim.››29Böylece Sadok'la Aviyatar Tanrı'nın Sandığı'nı Yeruşalim'e geri götürüp orada kaldılar.30Davut ağlaya ağlaya Zeytin Dağı'na çıkıyordu. Başı örtülüydü, yalınayak yürüyordu. Yanındaki herkesin başı örtülüydü ve ağlayarak dağa çıkıyorlardı.31O sırada biri Davut'a, ‹‹Ahitofel Avşalom'dan yana olan suikastçıların arasında›› diye bildirdi. Bunun üzerine Davut, ‹‹Ya RAB, Ahitofel'in öğüdünü boşa çıkar›› diye dua etti.32Davut Tanrı'ya tapılan tepenin doruğuna varınca, Arklı Huşay giysisi yırtılmış, başı toz toprak içinde onu karşıladı.33Davut ona, ‹‹Benimle birlikte gelirsen, bana yük olursun›› dedi,34‹‹Ama kente döner ve Avşalom'a, ‹Ey kral, senin kulun olacağım; geçmişte babana nasıl kulluk ettiysem, şimdi de sana öyle kulluk edeceğim› dersen, Ahitofel'in öğüdünü benim için boşa çıkarırsın.35Kâhin Sadok ile Kâhin Aviyatar orada seninle birlikte olacaklar. 1After this Absalom got himself a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him. (1 Kr 1:5)2And Absalom used to rise early and stand beside the way of the gate. And when any man had a dispute to come before the king for judgment, Absalom would call to him and say, “From what city are you?” And when he said, “Your servant is of such and such a tribe in Israel,” (Rut 4:1)3Absalom would say to him, “See, your claims are good and right, but there is no man designated by the king to hear you.”4Then Absalom would say, “Oh that I were judge in the land! Then every man with a dispute or cause might come to me, and I would give him justice.” (Hak 9:29)5And whenever a man came near to pay homage to him, he would put out his hand and take hold of him and kiss him.6Thus Absalom did to all of Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.7And at the end of four[1] years Absalom said to the king, “Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the Lord, in Hebron.8For your servant vowed a vow while I lived at Geshur in Aram, saying, ‘If the Lord will indeed bring me back to Jerusalem, then I will offer worship to[2] the Lord.’” (Yar 28:20; 1 Sa 1:11; 2 Sa 13:38)9The king said to him, “Go in peace.” So he arose and went to Hebron. (1 Sa 1:17)10But Absalom sent secret messengers throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then say, ‘Absalom is king at Hebron!’”11With Absalom went two hundred men from Jerusalem who were invited guests, and they went in their innocence and knew nothing. (1 Sa 9:13; 1 Sa 16:3; 1 Sa 16:5)12And while Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for[3] Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city Giloh. And the conspiracy grew strong, and the people with Absalom kept increasing. (Yşu 15:51; 2 Sa 15:31; 2 Sa 16:20; 2 Sa 17:1; 2 Sa 17:14; 2 Sa 17:23; 1 Ta 27:33; Mez 3:1; Mez 41:9; Mez 55:12)
David Flees Jerusalem
13And a messenger came to David, saying, “The hearts of the men of Israel have gone after Absalom.” (Hak 9:3)14Then David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Arise, and let us flee, or else there will be no escape for us from Absalom. Go quickly, lest he overtake us quickly and bring down ruin on us and strike the city with the edge of the sword.” (2 Sa 19:9)15And the king’s servants said to the king, “Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king decides.”16So the king went out, and all his household after him. And the king left ten concubines to keep the house. (2 Sa 16:21; 2 Sa 20:3)17And the king went out, and all the people after him. And they halted at the last house.18And all his servants passed by him, and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the six hundred Gittites who had followed him from Gath, passed on before the king. (1 Sa 27:2; 2 Sa 8:18)19Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why do you also go with us? Go back and stay with the king, for you are a foreigner and also an exile from your home. (2 Sa 18:2)20You came only yesterday, and shall I today make you wander about with us, since I go I know not where? Go back and take your brothers with you, and may the Lord show[4] steadfast love and faithfulness to you.” (1 Sa 23:13)21But Ittai answered the king, “As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, there also will your servant be.” (Rut 1:16; Rut 3:13)22And David said to Ittai, “Go then, pass on.” So Ittai the Gittite passed on with all his men and all the little ones who were with him.23And all the land wept aloud as all the people passed by, and the king crossed the brook Kidron, and all the people passed on toward the wilderness. And they set down the ark of God until the people had all passed out of the city. (Say 4:15; 1 Sa 22:20; 2 Sa 8:17; 2 Sa 20:25)25Then the king said to Zadok, “Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the Lord, he will bring me back and let me see both it and his dwelling place. Go back[5] to the city in peace, with your two sons, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. (1 Sa 9:9; 2 Sa 17:17)28See, I will wait at the fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.” (2 Sa 15:23; 2 Sa 17:16)29So Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem, and they remained there.30But David went up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, barefoot and with his head covered. And all the people who were with him covered their heads, and they went up, weeping as they went. (2 Sa 19:4; Est 6:12; Mez 126:6; Yşa 20:2; Yer 14:3)31And it was told David, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.” (2 Sa 16:23; 2 Sa 17:14; 2 Sa 17:23)32While David was coming to the summit, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat torn and dirt on his head. (Yşu 7:6; Yşu 16:2)33David said to him, “If you go on with me, you will be a burden to me. (2 Sa 19:35)34But if you return to the city and say to Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, O king; as I have been your father’s servant in time past, so now I will be your servant,’ then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel. (2 Sa 16:19)35Are not Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? So whatever you hear from the king’s house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. (2 Sa 17:15)36Behold, their two sons are with them there, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son, and by them you shall send to me everything you hear.” (2 Sa 17:17)37So Hushai, David’s friend, came into the city, just as Absalom was entering Jerusalem.
