Sonst könnten sie sich im Kriegsfall mit unseren Feinden verbünden, gegen uns kämpfen und dann aus dem Land fortziehen.« (Ps 105,24; Apg 7,17)11Deshalb setzten die Ägypter Aufseher über die Israeliten ein, um sie mit schwerer Arbeit zu unterdrücken. Die Israeliten mussten für den Pharao, den König von Ägypten, die Vorratsstädte Pitom und Ramses bauen. (2Mo 2,11; 2Mo 3,7)12Doch je mehr die Ägypter sie unterdrückten, desto zahlreicher wurden die Israeliten! Da bekamen die Ägypter Angst vor ihnen.13Sie zwangen die Israeliten mit Gewalt zur Fronarbeit und14machten ihnen durch die harte Arbeit das Leben schwer: Die Israeliten mussten aus Lehm Ziegel herstellen und auf den Feldern arbeiten. (2Mo 2,23)15Der König von Ägypten erteilte den hebräischen Hebammen Schifra und Pua folgenden Befehl:16»Wenn ihr den hebräischen Frauen bei der Geburt Hilfe leistet und ein Junge geboren wird, dann tötet ihn. Ist es jedoch ein Mädchen, dann lasst es am Leben.« (Apg 7,19)17Aber weil die Hebammen Ehrfurcht vor Gott hatten, gehorchten sie dem König von Ägypten nicht und ließen die Jungen am Leben.18Da rief der König von Ägypten die Hebammen zu sich. »Warum tötet ihr die Jungen nicht?«, wollte er wissen.19»Herr«, antworteten sie ihm, »die hebräischen Frauen sind kräftiger als die ägyptischen Frauen. Noch bevor eine Hebamme zu ihnen kommt, haben sie ihr Baby bereits geboren.« (Jos 2,4; 2Sam 17,20)20Gott segnete die Hebammen und das Volk der Israeliten wurde sehr groß und mächtig. Pharaoh Oppresses Israel
8Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. (Apg 7,18)9And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. (Ps 105,24)10Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” (Ps 83,3; Ps 105,25; Apg 7,19)11Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. (1Mo 15,13; 1Mo 47,11; 2Mo 2,11; 2Mo 3,7; 2Mo 5,4; 2Mo 6,6; 2Mo 12,37; 5Mo 26,6; 2Chr 16,4; Ps 81,6)12But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel.13So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves (2Mo 5,7)14and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves. (2Mo 2,23; 2Mo 6,9; 4Mo 20,15; Apg 7,19; Apg 7,34)15Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other Puah,16“When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women and see them on the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him, but if it is a daughter, she shall live.”17But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live. (Spr 16,6; Dan 3,16; Dan 6,13; Apg 5,29)18So the king of Egypt called the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this, and let the male children live?”19The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife comes to them.”20So God dealt well with the midwives. And the people multiplied and grew very strong. (Pred 8,12)21And because the midwives feared God, he gave them families. The slave drivers treated them badly and made them work hard. The Israelites built the cities of Pithom and Rameses so Pharaoh could store things there.12But the worse the slave drivers treated the Israelites, the more Israelites there were. So the Egyptians became afraid of them.13They made them work hard. They didn’t show them any pity.14The people suffered because of their hard labour. The slave drivers forced them to work with bricks and mud. And they made them do all kinds of work in the fields. The Egyptians didn’t show them any pity at all. They made them work very hard.15There were two Hebrew women named Shiphrah and Puah. They helped other women having babies. The king of Egypt spoke to them. He said,16‘You are the ones who help the other Hebrew women. Watch them when they get into a sitting position to have their babies. Kill the boys. Let the girls live.’17But Shiphrah and Puah had respect for God. They didn’t do what the king of Egypt had told them to do. They let the boys live.18Then the king of Egypt sent for the women. He asked them, ‘Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?’19The women answered Pharaoh, ‘Hebrew women are not like the women of Egypt. They are strong. They have their babies before we get there.’20So God was kind to Shiphrah and Puah. And the number of Israelites became even greater.21Shiphrah and Puah had respect for God. So he gave them families of their own.22Then Pharaoh gave an order to all his people. He said, ‘You must throw every Hebrew baby boy into the River Nile. But let every Hebrew baby girl live.’
