1Denn für das Silber gibt es einen Fundort[1] und für das Gold einen Platz, wo man es läutert. (Jes 13,12)17Gold und Glas kommt ihr nicht gleich, noch kann man sie eintauschen gegen ein goldenes Gerät. (Spr 3,13; Spr 8,10; Spr 8,19; Spr 16,16)18Korallen und Kristall gelten nichts gegen sie, und der Besitz der Weisheit geht über Perlen. (Spr 3,15; Hes 27,16; Mt 13,45; Offb 21,21)19Der Topas aus Kusch ist ihr nicht zu vergleichen; mit reinem Gold wird sie nicht aufgewogen. (2Mo 39,10; Hi 28,17; Offb 21,20)20Woher kommt denn nun die Weisheit, und wo ist die Fundstätte der Einsicht? (Hi 28,12; Pred 7,23; 1Kor 2,6; Jak 1,5)21Sie ist verborgen vor den Augen alles Lebendigen und vor den Vögeln des Himmels versteckt. (Hi 28,7; Hi 28,12; Ps 49,4; Kol 2,3)22Der Abgrund und der Tod sprechen: »Wir haben mit unseren Ohren ein Gerücht von ihr gehört!« (Hi 28,14)23Gott hat Einsicht in ihren Weg, und er kennt ihre Fundstätte. (Spr 2,6; Spr 8,14; 1Kor 1,30; Kol 2,3; Jud 1,25)24Denn Er schaut bis zu den Enden der Erde und sieht alles, was unter dem Himmel ist. (Ps 33,14; Spr 15,3; Sach 4,10; Offb 5,6)25Als er dem Wind sein Gewicht gab und die Wasser abwog mit einem Maß, (Ps 135,7; Jes 40,12)26als er dem Regen sein Gesetz bestimmte und dem donnernden Unwetter seinen Weg: (Hi 36,27; Hi 36,32; Hi 37,2; Hi 38,25; Ps 135,7; Ps 148,8; Jes 40,12)27Da hat er sie gesehen und verkündigt, sie bestätigt und ergründet, (Spr 8,22; Jer 10,12)28und er sprach zum Menschen: »Siehe, die Furcht des Herrn, das ist Weisheit, und vom Bösen weichen, das ist Einsicht!« (5Mo 4,6; Ps 34,15; Ps 111,10; Spr 1,7; Spr 9,10; Spr 16,6; Pred 12,13; Jak 3,17)
1There are mines where silver is found. There are places where gold is purified.2Iron is taken out of the earth. Copper is melted down from ore.3Human beings light up the darkness. They search for ore in the deepest pits. They look for it in the blackest darkness.4Far from where people live they cut a tunnel. They do it in places where other people don’t go. Far away from people they swing to and fro on ropes.5Food grows on the surface of the earth. But far below, the earth is changed as if by fire.6Lapis lazuli is taken from the rocky earth. Its dust contains nuggets of gold.7No bird knows that hidden path. No falcon’s eye has seen it.8Proud animals don’t walk on it. Lions don’t prowl there.9Human hands attack the hardest rock. Their strong hands uncover the base of the mountains.10They tunnel through the rock. Their eyes see all its treasures.11They search the places where the rivers begin. They bring hidden things out into the light.12But where can wisdom be found? Where does understanding live?13No human being understands how much it’s worth. It can’t be found anywhere in the world.14The ocean says, ‘It’s not in me.’ The sea says, ‘It’s not here either.’15It can’t be bought with the finest gold. Its price can’t be weighed out in silver.16It can’t be bought with gold from Ophir. It can’t be bought with priceless onyx or lapis lazuli.17Gold or crystal can’t compare with it. It can’t be bought with jewels made of gold.18Don’t bother to talk about coral and jasper. Wisdom is worth far more than rubies.19A topaz from Cush can’t compare with it. It can’t be bought with the purest gold.20So where does wisdom come from? Where does understanding live?21It’s hidden from the eyes of every living thing. Even the birds in the sky can’t find it.22Death and the Grave say, ‘Only reports about it have reached our ears.’23But God understands the way to it. He is the only one who knows where it lives.24He sees from one end of the earth to the other. He views everything in the world.25He made the mighty wind. He measured out the waters.26He gave orders for the rain to fall. He made paths for the thunderstorms.27Then he looked at wisdom and set its price. He established it and tested it.28He said to human beings, ‘Have respect for the Lord. That will prove you are wise. Avoid evil. That will show you have understanding.’
