Sieg über Arad

1 Und als der Kanaaniter, der König von Arad, der im Negev wohnte, hörte, dass Israel auf dem Weg nach Atarim heranzog, kämpfte er gegen Israel und führte Gefangene von ihm weg. (4Mo 33,40; Jos 12,14; Ri 1,16) 2 Da legte Israel ein Gelübde ab vor dem HERRN und sprach: Wenn du dieses Volk wirklich in meine Hand gibst, so will ich an ihren Städten den Bann vollstrecken! Die eherne Schlange

4 Da zogen sie vom Berg Hor weg auf dem Weg zum Roten Meer^[1], um das Land der Edomiter zu umgehen.^[2] Aber das Volk wurde ungeduldig auf dem Weg. (4Mo 20,21; 4Mo 33,41; 5Mo 2,8) 5 Und das Volk redete gegen Gott und gegen Mose: Warum habt ihr uns aus Ägypten heraufgeführt, damit wir in der Wüste sterben? Denn hier gibt es weder Brot noch Wasser, und unsere Seele hat einen Ekel vor dieser elenden Speise! (4Mo 11,6; 5Mo 8,3; Hi 21,14; Ps 78,19; 1Tim 6,8)

7 Da kamen sie zu Mose und sprachen: Wir haben gesündigt, dass wir gegen den HERRN und gegen dich geredet haben. Bitte den HERRN, dass er die Schlangen von uns wegnimmt! Und Mose bat für das Volk. (2Mo 10,17; Ri 10,15; 1Sam 12,19; 1Kön 13,6; Ps 78,34)

8 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Mache dir eine Seraph-[Schlange] und befestige sie an einem Feldzeichen^[3]; und es soll geschehen, wer gebissen worden ist und sie ansieht, der soll am Leben bleiben! (Ps 106,43; Ps 145,8) 9 Da machte Mose eine eherne Schlange und befestigte sie an dem Feldzeichen; und es geschah, wenn eine Schlange jemand biss und er die eherne Schlange anschaute, so blieb er am Leben. Israels Zug nach Moab

10 Und die Kinder Israels brachen auf und lagerten sich in Obot. (4Mo 33,43; 5Mo 8,2) 11 Und von Obot brachen sie auf und lagerten sich bei Ijje-Abarim in der Wüste, Moab gegenüber, gegen Aufgang der Sonne. 12 Von dort brachen sie auf und lagerten sich an dem Bach Sered. (5Mo 2,13) 13 Von dort brachen sie auf und lagerten sich jenseits des Arnon, der in der Wüste ist und aus dem Gebiet der Amoriter herausfließt; denn der Arnon bildet die Grenze Moabs, zwischen Moab und den Amoritern. 14 Daher heißt es im Buch der Kriege des HERRN: »Waheb hat er im Sturm eingenommen Und die Täler des Arnon, (Jos 10,13; 2Sam 1,18) 15 Und den Abhang der Täler, Der sich hinzieht bis zum Wohnsitz von Ar Und sich anlehnt an die Grenze von Moab.« (5Mo 2,9; Jes 15,1) 16 Von dort zogen sie nach Beer. Das ist der Brunnen, von dem der HERR zu Mose sagte: Versammle das Volk, so will ich ihnen Wasser geben! (Ri 9,21; Jes 41,17) 17 Damals sang Israel dieses Lied: »Quill auf, Brunnen! Singt ihm zu! (4Mo 21,5; Ps 106,12) 18 Du Brunnen, den die Fürsten gruben, Den die Edlen des Volkes öffneten Mit dem Herrscherstab, mit ihren Stäben!« Und aus der Wüste zogen sie nach Mattana, (4Mo 7,2; 4Mo 7,84; 2Chr 17,7) 19 und von Mattana nach Nachaliel, und von Nachaliel nach Bamot, (4Mo 22,41) 20 und von Bamot in das Tal, das im Gebiet von Moab liegt, bei dem Gipfel des Pisga, der auf die Wüste herunterschaut. Sieg über die Könige Sihon und Og

21 Und Israel sandte Boten zu Sihon, dem König der Amoriter, und ließ ihm sagen: (5Mo 2,26; Ri 11,19) 22 Lass mich durch dein Land ziehen! Wir wollen weder in die Äcker noch in die Weingärten abbiegen, wollen auch vom Brunnenwasser nicht trinken; wir wollen auf der Straße des Königs ziehen, bis wir durch dein Gebiet gezogen sind! (4Mo 20,17) 23 Aber Sihon gestattete Israel nicht, durch sein Gebiet zu ziehen; und Sihon versammelte sein ganzes Volk und zog aus, Israel entgegen in die Wüste. Und als er nach Jahaz kam, kämpfte er gegen Israel. (5Mo 2,30; 5Mo 29,6; Jos 13,18; Ri 11,20; Jes 15,4)

24 Israel aber schlug ihn mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und nahm sein Land in Besitz, vom Arnon an bis an den Jabbok und bis zu den Ammonitern; denn die Grenze der Ammoniter war fest. (5Mo 2,33; Jos 12,1; Neh 9,22; Ps 136,17)

25 So nahm Israel alle diese Städte ein und wohnte in allen Städten der Amoriter, in Hesbon und in allen seinen Tochterstädten. (4Mo 32,33; Jes 15,4; Jer 48,2) 26 Denn Hesbon war die Stadt Sihons, des Königs der Amoriter, der zuvor mit dem König der Moabiter gekämpft und ihm sein ganzes Land bis zum Arnon abgenommen hatte. (4Mo 21,27; 5Mo 1,3) 27 Daher sagen die Spruchdichter: »Kommt nach Hesbon; sie werde gebaut, und die Stadt Sihons werde befestigt! 31 So wohnte Israel im Land der Amoriter. (Jos 24,13; Ps 105,44) 32 Und Mose sandte Kundschafter aus nach Jaeser, und sie nahmen seine Tochterstädte ein und vertrieben die Amoriter, die darin wohnten. (4Mo 32,1; 4Mo 32,35; Jos 13,25; Jes 16,8)

33 Und sie wandten sich um und zogen nach Baschan hinauf. Da zog Og, der König von Baschan, mit seinem ganzen Volk aus, ihnen entgegen, zum Kampf bei Edrei. (5Mo 3,1; Jos 12,4) 34 Der HERR aber sprach zu Mose: Fürchte dich nicht vor ihm, denn ich habe ihn mit Land und Leuten in deine Hand gegeben! Und du sollst mit ihm verfahren, wie du mit Sihon, dem König der Amoriter, verfahren bist, der in Hesbon wohnte! (5Mo 3,2; 5Mo 7,17) 35 Und sie schlugen ihn und seine Söhne und sein ganzes Volk so, dass man ihm niemand übrig ließ, der entkommen wäre; und sie nahmen sein Land in Besitz. 1 And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners. 2 And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities. 3 And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah. 4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way. 5 And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. 6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died. 7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah: 19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth: 20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon. 21 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, 22 Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king' high way, until we be past thy borders. 23 And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel. 24 And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong. 25 And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof. 26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon. 27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared: 28 For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon. 29 Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites. 30 We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba. 31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites. 32 And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there. 33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei. 34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon. 35 So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
