Israels Buße und die Hilfe des Herrn gegen die Philister

1 So kamen die Leute von Kirjat-Jearim und holten die Lade des HERRN hinauf und brachten sie in das Haus Abinadabs auf dem Hügel, und sie heiligten seinen Sohn Eleasar, damit er die Lade des HERRN hütete. (2Sam 6,3; Ps 132,6) 2 Und von dem Tag an, da die Lade in Kirjat-Jearim blieb, verging eine lange Zeit, bis 20 Jahre um waren; und das ganze Haus Israel rief wehklagend nach dem HERRN. (Hos 5,15; Sach 12,10; Lk 15,17) 3 Samuel aber redete zu dem ganzen Haus Israel und sprach: Wenn ihr von ganzem Herzen zu dem HERRN zurückkehren wollt, dann tut die fremden Götter und Astarten aus eurer Mitte und richtet euer Herz zu dem HERRN und dient ihm allein, so wird er euch aus der Hand der Philister erretten! 4 Da schafften die Kinder Israels die Baale und die Astarten hinweg und dienten dem HERRN allein. (Ri 10,16) 5 Samuel aber sprach: Versammelt ganz Israel nach Mizpa, so will ich für euch zum HERRN beten! (Jos 18,26; 1Sam 7,16; 1Sam 10,17; 1Kön 15,22; 2Kön 25,23; Ps 99,6; Jer 15,1)

6 Da kamen sie zusammen nach Mizpa und schöpften Wasser und gossen es aus vor dem HERRN; und sie fasteten an jenem Tag und sprachen dort: Wir haben gegen den HERRN gesündigt! Und Samuel richtete die Kinder Israels in Mizpa. (Ri 10,10; Ri 20,26; Neh 9,1; Neh 9,2; Hi 3,24; Ps 51,6; Jer 31,9; Kla 2,19)

7 Als aber die Philister hörten, dass die Kinder Israels in Mizpa zusammengekommen waren, da zogen die Fürsten der Philister hinauf gegen Israel. Als die Kinder Israels dies hörten, fürchteten sie sich vor den Philistern. (2Mo 14,10) 8 Und die Kinder Israels sprachen zu Samuel: Lass nicht ab, für uns zu dem HERRN, unserem Gott, zu rufen, dass er uns aus der Hand der Philister errette! (1Sam 7,3; 2Kön 19,4) 9 Und Samuel nahm ein Milchlamm und opferte es vollständig als Brandopfer dem HERRN; und Samuel schrie zum HERRN für Israel, und der HERR erhörte ihn. (3Mo 1,10; Ps 99,6; Jak 5,16) 10 Es geschah nämlich, während Samuel das Brandopfer darbrachte, da näherten sich die Philister zum Kampf gegen Israel. Aber an jenem Tag donnerte der HERR mit gewaltiger Stimme gegen die Philister und verwirrte sie, sodass sie vor Israel geschlagen wurden. (Jos 10,10; Ri 4,15; 1Sam 2,10; Ps 18,15)

11 Da zogen die Männer Israels von Mizpa aus und jagten die Philister und schlugen sie bis unterhalb Beth-Kar. (1Sam 7,13) 12 Und Samuel nahm einen Stein und stellte ihn zwischen Mizpa und Schen auf, und er gab ihm den Namen Eben-Eser, und sprach: Bis hierher hat der HERR uns geholfen! 13 So wurden die Philister gedemütigt und kamen künftig nicht mehr in das Gebiet Israels. Und die Hand des HERRN war gegen die Philister, solange Samuel lebte. (Ri 13,1; Ri 13,5; 2Sam 8,1) 14 So kamen die Städte, welche die Philister von Israel weggenommen hatten, wieder an Israel, von Ekron an bis nach Gat; auch ihr [dazugehöriges] Gebiet errettete Israel aus der Hand der Philister. Und es war Friede zwischen Israel und den Amoritern. (Jos 15,45; 1Chr 18,1) 15 Und Samuel richtete Israel sein Leben lang; (1Sam 1,11; 1Sam 1,28; 1Kön 15,5; Ps 23,6)

16 und er zog Jahr für Jahr umher und machte die Runde in Bethel, Gilgal und Mizpa und richtete Israel an allen diesen Orten. (Jos 5,9) 17 Doch kehrte er immer wieder nach Rama zurück; denn dort war sein Haus; und er richtete Israel dort; und er baute dort dem HERRN einen Altar. 1 And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD. 2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD. 3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines. 4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only. 5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD. 6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh. 7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it , they were afraid of the Philistines. 8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines. 9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him. 10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel. 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar. 12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us. 13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. 14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites. 15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. 16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places. 17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
