1L'année de la mort du roi Ozias, j'ai vu le Seigneur assis sur un trône très élevé; le bord inférieur de son vêtement remplissait le temple.2Des séraphins se tenaient au-dessus de lui. Ils avaient chacun six ailes: deux dont ils se couvraient le visage, deux dont ils se couvraient les pieds et deux dont ils se servaient pour voler.3Ils se criaient l'un à l'autre: « Saint, saint, saint est l'Eternel[1], le maître de l'univers! Sa gloire remplit toute la terre!» (Ap 4:8)4Les montants des portes se sont mis à trembler à cause de la voix qui retentissait et le temple a été rempli de fumée.5Alors j'ai dit: «Malheur à moi! Je suis perdu, car je suis un homme aux lèvres impures, j'habite au milieu d'un peuple aux lèvres impures et mes yeux ont vu le roi, l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers!»6Cependant, l'un des séraphins a volé vers moi, tenant une braise qu'il avait prise sur l'autel à l'aide de pincettes.7Il a touché ma bouche avec elle et a dit: «Puisque ceci a touché tes lèvres, ta faute est enlevée et ton péché est expié.»8J'ai entendu le Seigneur dire: «Qui vais-je envoyer et qui va marcher pour nous?» J'ai répondu: «Me voici, envoie-moi!»9Il a alors ordonné: «Va dire à ce peuple: ‘Vous aurez beau écouter, vous ne comprendrez pas, vous aurez beau regarder, vous ne saurez pas.’10Rends insensible le cœur de ce peuple, endurcis ses oreilles et ferme-lui les yeux pour qu'il ne voie pas de ses yeux, n'entende pas de ses oreilles, ne comprenne pas de son cœur, ne se convertisse pas et ne soit pas guéri.»[2] (Mt 13:14; Mc 4:12; Lc 8:10; Jn 12:40; Ac 28:26)11J'ai dit: «Jusqu'à quand, Seigneur?» Et il a répondu: «Jusqu'à ce que la dévastation ait privé les villes d'habitants et les maisons d'êtres humains et que le territoire soit dévasté, désertique,12jusqu'à ce que l'Eternel ait éloigné les êtres humains et qu'une grande partie du pays soit abandonnée.13S'il y reste encore un dixième des habitants, à leur tour ils passeront par les flammes. Cependant, tout comme le térébinthe et le chêne conservent leur souche quand ils sont abattus, la souche de ce peuple donnera une sainte descendance.»
1In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple.2Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.3And they were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.’4At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.5‘Woe to me!’ I cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.’6Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar.7With it he touched my mouth and said, ‘See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.’8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’9He said, ‘Go and tell this people: ‘ “Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.”10Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes.[1] Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.’11Then I said, ‘For how long, Lord?’ And he answered: ‘Until the cities lie ruined and without inhabitant, until the houses are left deserted and the fields ruined and ravaged,12until the Lord has sent everyone far away and the land is utterly forsaken.13And though a tenth remains in the land, it will again be laid waste. But as the terebinth and oak leave stumps when they are cut down, so the holy seed will be the stump in the land.’
