1Alcuni Farisei ed altri capi giudei giunsero da Gerusalemme per interrogare Gesù.2«Perché i tuoi discepoli non rispettano le antiche tradizioni ebraiche?» gli domandarono. «Infatti non fanno il rito di lavarsi le mani prima di mangiare».3Gesù rispose: «E voi, allora, perché non rispettate i comandamenti di Dio per seguire la vostra tradizione?4Per esempio, la legge di Dio dice: “Onora tuo padre e tua madre; chi maledice i genitori deve morire”.5-6Ma voi sostenete: Se uno dice a suo padre o a sua madre: “Il denaro con cui potrei mantenerti lo offro alla chiesa”, non è più obbligato a mantenere suo padre o sua madre. E così, con la vostra tradizione, voi annullate il comandamento di Dio di onorare e prendervi cura dei vostri genitori.7Ipocriti! Di voi profetizzò bene Isaia, quando disse8“Costoro dicono di onorarmi, ma i loro cuori sono lontani.9La loro adorazione non ha valore, perché insegnano comandamenti fatti dallʼuomo, anziché quelli di Dio!”».10Poi Gesù chiamò la folla e disse: «Ascoltate ciò che dico e cercate di capire.11Non ciò che entra nella bocca dellʼuomo lo rende impuro, piuttosto ciò che esce dalla sua bocca lo rende impuro».12Allora i discepoli gli si avvicinarono, dicendo: «La tua osservazione ha offeso i Farisei!»13-14E Gesù rispose: «Ogni pianta, che non ha piantato mio Padre che è in cielo, sarà sradicata, perciò lasciateli dire! Sono ciechi che vogliono guidare altri ciechi, e tutti insieme finiranno nel fosso!»15Allora Pietro chiese a Gesù di spiegare che cosa intendeva, quando diceva che non ci si contamina mangiando cibi non permessi dalla tradizione.16«Ma non capisci?» disse Gesù.17«Non vedi che tutto ciò che mangi passa attraverso la pancia per poi uscirne di nuovo?18Ma le parole malvagie provengono dal cuore malvagio e contaminano lʼuomo che le dice.19Perché è dal cuore che vengono tutti i pensieri cattivi: omicidi, adulteri, peccati sessuali, furti, menzogne e diffamazioni.20Sono queste le cose che contaminano, ma non cʼè contaminazione spirituale se si mangia senza aver prima osservato il rito di lavarsi le mani!»21Poi Gesù lasciò quella zona del paese e camminò per ottanta chilometri fino a Tiro e Sidone.
Altri miracoli
22Una donna cananea che viveva in quei paraggi gli si avvicinò, implorandolo: «Abbi pietà di me, o Signore, figlio di Davide! Mia figlia è posseduta da un demonio che la tormenta continuamente!»23Gesù, però, non le rispose, non le disse una parola. Allora i discepoli cercarono di persuaderlo a mandarla via e gli dissero: «esaudiscila, vedi come ci sta infastidendo con la sua insistenza».24Allora Gesù disse alla donna: «Sono stato mandato per aiutare i Giudei, non gli stranieri».25Ma la donna si fece avanti, sʼinginocchiò e implorò di nuovo: «Signore, aiutami!»26Allora Gesù rispose: «Non va bene togliere il pane ai figli per buttarlo ai cani».27Ma la donna disse: «Dici bene, Signore, eppure anche ai cagnolini sotto la tavola è permesso mangiare le briciole che cadono ai loro padroni».28Allora Gesù le disse: «Donna, la tua fede è davvero grande! Sia fatto come tu voi». E sua figlia fu guarita immediatamente.29Quindi Gesù tornò verso il lago di Galilea, salì su una collina e là si mise a sedere.30Una grande folla gli portò i propri malati: zoppi, ciechi, storpi, muti e molti altri; li portavano davanti a lui, ed egli li guariva tutti.31Che spettacolo era! I muti parlavano, gli storpi erano guariti, gli zoppi camminavano e saltavano, e i ciechi vedevano! La folla era stupefatta e glorificava il Dio dʼIsraele.32Allora Gesù chiamò i suoi discepoli e disse: «Questa gente mi fa pena. Sono già tre giorni che stanno qui con me e non hanno più niente da mangiare. Non voglio mandarli via affamati, perché potrebbero svenire per la strada!»33I discepoli risposero: «Ma dove possiamo trovare in questo posto deserto abbastanza cibo per tutta questa gente?»34E Gesù chiese loro: «Quanta roba avete da mangiare?» «Sette pani e alcuni pesciolini!» fu la risposta.35Allora Gesù ordinò a tutta la gente di sedersi per terra.36Prese i sette pani e i pesci e, dopo averne ringraziato Dio, li spezzò in tanti pezzetti e li diede ai discepoli da distribuire alla folla.37-38Tutti mangiarono a sazietà: quattromila uomini, oltre le donne e i bambini. Più tardi, quando furono raccolti gli avanzi, se ne riempirono sette cesti.39Poi Gesù rimandò la gente a casa e, dopo essere salito in barca, attraversò il lago in direzione di Magadàn.

Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, when he said: (Mat 23,13)8“‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; (Is 29,13; Ez 33,31)9in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’” (Col 2,22; Tit 1,14)
What Defiles a Person
10And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand: (Mat 13,51)11it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” (At 10,14)12Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” (Mat 13,57; Lu 7,23)13He answered, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. (Is 60,21; Is 61,3; Giov 15,1; 1Co 3,9; Giuda 1,12)14Let them alone; they are blind guides.[3] And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” (Is 56,10; Mal 2,8; Mat 23,16; Mat 23,24; Lu 6,39)15But Peter said to him, “Explain the parable to us.” (Mat 13,36)16And he said, “Are you also still without understanding? (Mat 16,9)17Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled?[4] (1Co 6,13)18But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. (Mat 12,34; Giac 3,6)19For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. (Eso 20,13; Mat 5,22; Mat 5,28; Ef 4,31; Col 3,8; 1Ti 6,4; Giac 2,4)20These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.” (Mar 7,2; Mar 7,5; 1Co 6,9)
The Faith of a Canaanite Woman
21And Jesus went away from there and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. (Mar 7,24)22And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” (Gen 10,15; Gen 10,19; Giudic 1,30; Mat 9,27)23But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.” (Mat 14,15)24He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Mat 10,5; Ro 15,8)25But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” (Mat 8,2)26And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” (Mat 7,6)27She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” (Lu 16,21)28Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Jesus Heals Many
29Jesus went on from there and walked beside the Sea of Galilee. And he went up on the mountain and sat down there. (Mat 4,18; Mat 5,1; Mar 7,31; Giov 6,1)30And great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at his feet, and he healed them, (Mat 11,5)31so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel. (Is 29,23; Mat 9,8; Mat 9,33; Mat 18,8; Mar 9,43; Lu 1,68; At 13,17)
Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand
32Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” (Mat 9,36; Mat 14,14; Mar 8,1)33And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?”34And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” (Mat 16,10)35And directing the crowd to sit down on the ground,36he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. (Mat 26,27; Mar 14,23; Lu 22,17; Lu 22,19; Giov 6,11; Giov 6,23; At 27,35; Ro 14,6; 1Co 10,30; 1Co 11,24; 1Co 14,16; 1Ti 4,3)37And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces left over. (2Re 4,42)38Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.39And after sending away the crowds, he got into the boat and went to the region of Magadan. (Mar 8,10)
