Lʼarresto di Pietro e Giovanni

1 Stavano ancora parlando al popolo, quando sopraggiunsero i capi sacerdoti, i capitani della polizia del tempio ed alcuni Sadducei. 2 Erano indignati dal fatto che Pietro e Giovanni insegnassero al popolo, ma soprattutto perché proclamavano ai quattro venti che, grazie a Gesù, era possibile risorgere dalla morte. 3 Perciò li arrestarono e, poiché era già sera, li gettarono in prigione fino al giorno dopo. 4 Tuttavia molte persone che avevano udito le parole degli apostoli credettero, e a questo punto il numero dei credenti aumentò fino a cinquemila uomini. 5 Il giorno dopo, i capi del popolo, gli anziani e tutti i capi giudei si riunirono a Gerusalemme. 6 Cʼera Anna, il sommo sacerdote Caifa, Giovanni, Alessandro ed altri parenti del sommo sacerdote. 7 I due discepoli furono portati alla loro presenza. «Chi vi ha autorizzato a fare queste cose?» gli chiesero. 8 Allora Pietro, pieno di Spirito Santo, disse loro: «Capi e anziani del nostro popolo, ascoltate! 9 Se vi riferite alla buona azione fatta allo storpio ed al modo in cui è stato guarito, 10 sia ben chiaro a voi e a tutto il popolo dʼIsraele che questo è avvenuto nel nome e per merito di Gesù di Nazaret, il Messia, lʼuomo che voi avete crocifisso, ma che Dio ha resuscitato! È per merito suo che questʼuomo si presenta a voi completamente guarito! 11 Perché Gesù, il Messia, è quello a cui si riferiscono le Scritture, quando dicono: “È lui la pietra che voi costruttori avete scartato e che è diventata la pietra angolare”. 12 Gesù Cristo e nessun altro può darci salvezza! Non esiste altro nome sotto il cielo che gli uomini possano invocare, per essere salvati!». 13 Davanti alla sicurezza di Pietro e di Giovanni, noti a tutti come popolani senza cultura, i presenti restarono stupiti riconoscendoli come coloro che erano stati con Gesù. 14 Vedendo poi, lì in piedi, vicino a loro quellʼuomo che era stato guarito, non sapevano proprio che cosa rispondere. 15 Allora fecero uscire Pietro e Giovanni dalla camera del consiglio e si misero a discutere tra loro. 16 «Che ne facciamo di questi uomini?» si chiedevano. «Non possiamo certo negare che abbiano compiuto un grande miracolo, tutta Gerusalemme ne è al corrente! 17 Forse, possiamo vietare loro di fare propaganda. Dobbiamo proibire loro con severe minacce, di parlare ancora di Gesù, così la cosa non si diffonderà ancora di più». 18 Perciò, dopo averli richiamati, ordinarono loro di non parlare più di Gesù, e tanto meno di insegnare nel suo nome. 19 Ma Pietro e Giovanni risposero: «Decidete voi stessi che cosʼè più giusto davanti a Dio: obbedire a voi, oppure a Lui? 20 Come facciamo a non parlare delle cose meravigliose che abbiamo visto e udito da Gesù?» 21 Allora quelli li minacciarono di nuovo poi finalmente li lasciarono andare, perché non sapevano come punirli senza provocare una rivolta. Tutti, infatti, glorificavano Dio per il miracolo avvenuto: 22 la guarigione di un uomo zoppo da quarantʼanni. 23 Appena liberi, Pietro e Giovanni ritornarono dagli altri discepoli, a cui riferirono ciò che avevano detto i capi sacerdoti e gli anziani. 24 Dopo averli ascoltati, tutti i credenti pregarono insieme: «O Signore, sei tu che hai creato il cielo e la terra, il mare e tutte le cose che essi contengono. 25-26 Sei tu, che per mezzo dello Spirito Santo parlasti per bocca di Davide, nostro antenato e tuo servo. Tu stesso gli hai fatto dire: “Perché si agitano le nazioni? Perché i popoli perdono tempo in progetti inutili? I re della terra si preparano alla battaglia; i governanti complottano contro il Signore e contro il suo Consacrato.” Ecco, 27 questo è ciò che sta succedendo oggi in questa città! Infatti Erode, Ponzio Pilato, tutti i Romani e il popolo dʼIsraele si sono uniti contro Gesù, il tuo Santo Servo. 28 Hanno fatto ciò che tu, o Signore, nella tua saggezza e potenza, avevi stabilito che avvenisse. 29 Ma ora, o Signore, considera le loro minacce e concedi a noi, tuoi servi, di annunciare la tua parola con grande coraggio. 30 Stendi la tua mano per guarire e perché si facciano miracoli e prodigi nel nome del tuo Santo Servo: Gesù!» 31 Appena ebbero finito questa preghiera, lʼedificio dove si erano riuniti tremò: tutti furono pieni di Spirito Santo e, sicuri più che mai, cominciarono a predicare il messaggio di Dio.

Due modi per impiegare il denaro

32 Tutti i credenti vivevano dʼamore e dʼaccordo; nessuno considerava suo ciò che possedeva, ma tenevano tutto in comune. 33 Gli apostoli predicavano in modo davvero convincente che il Signore Gesù era resuscitato, e i credenti erano guidati dalla grazia di Dio. 34-35 Fra loro, infatti, non cʼera nessun povero, perché tutti quelli che possedevano case o terreni li vendevano, e consegnavano agli apostoli il denaro da distribuire a ciascuno secondo le necessità. 36 Così fece, ad esempio un certo Giuseppe soprannominato Barnaba, il predicatore, della tribù di Levi, oriundo di Cipro. Barnaba aveva un campo, 37 lo vendette e portò il ricavato agli apostoli da distribuire fra i più bisognosi.

2 greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. (Giov 7,15) 14 But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. The Believers Pray for Boldness

23 When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, (Eso 20,11; 2Cr 2,12; Ne 9,6; Sal 102,25; Sal 124,8; Sal 134,3; Sal 146,6; At 1,14)

They Had Everything in Common

32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. (2Cr 30,12; Ez 11,19; At 2,44; Fili 1,27)
