1سحرگاه روز بعد، قوم اسرائيل همراه يوشع حركت كردند و از شطيم كوچ نموده، تا كنار رود اردن پيش رفتند و قبل از آنكه از رود اردن عبور كنند، چند روزی در آنجا اردو زدند.2-4بعد از سه روز، رهبران قوم به ميان اردو رفتند و اين دستور را صادر نمودند: «وقتی ديديد كه كاهنان، صندوق عهد خداوند خدايتان را بر دوش گرفتهاند و میبرند، شما هم به دنبال آنها حركت كنيد. كاهنان، شما را هدايت خواهند نمود، زيرا تا به حال از اين راه عبور نكردهايد. اما بايد در حدود يک كيلومتر از ايشان كه صندوق عهد را حمل میكنند فاصله بگيريد. مواظب باشيد نزديكتر نرويد!»5يوشع هم به قوم اسرائيل گفت: «امروز خود را تقديس[1] كنيد، چون فردا خداوند برای ما معجزهٔ بزرگی انجام خواهد داد.»6صبح روز بعد، يوشع به كاهنان دستور داد كه صندوق عهد را بردارند و پيشاپيش قوم اسرائيل حركت كنند. آنها نيز چنين كردند.7خداوند به يوشع فرمود: «از امروز تو را در نظر قوم اسرائيل بسيار سرافراز خواهم نمود تا بدانند كه من با تو هستم چنانكه با موسی بودم.8به كاهنانی كه صندوق عهد را حمل میكنند بگو وقتی به رود اردن رسيدند در كنار آن توقف كنند.»9يوشع قوم را جمع كرد و به ايشان گفت: «بياييد آنچه را كه خداوند فرموده است بشنويد.10امروز خواهيد دانست كه خدای زنده در میان شماست و او قبايل كنعانی، حيتی، حِوی، فَرِزی، جرجاشی، اموری و يبوسی را از سرزمينی كه بزودی آن را تسخير خواهيد كرد، بيرون خواهد راند.11صندوق عهد خداوند تمام دنيا، شما را به آن سوس رود اردن راهنمايی خواهد كرد!12-13وقتی كف پاهای كاهنانی كه صندوق عهد را حمل میكنند به آب رود اردن برسد، جريان آب قطع میشود و آب در يكجا بر روی هم انباشته میگردد. حال، دوازده نفر، يعنی از هر قبيله يک نفر را برای انجام وظيفهٔ مخصوصی كه در نظر دارم انتخاب كنيد[2].» (يوشع 4:2)14قوم اسرائيل اردوگاه را ترک كرده، به سوی رود اردن روانه شدند در حالی که كاهنان، صندوق عهد را برداشته، پيشاپيش آنها حركت میكردند.15آب رود اردن در اين هنگام كه فصل درو بود، بالا آمده بود. ولی به محض اينكه پاهای كاهنانی كه صندوق عهد را حمل میكردند به آب رودخانه رسيد،16ناگهان جريان آب در بالای رودخانه در شهر«آدم» كه نزديک«صرتان» است متوقف شده، روی هم انباشته گرديد و آبی كه پایینتر از آن نقطه بود به دريای نمک ريخت، به طوری كه قوم اسرائيل توانستند از آنجا كه روبروی اريحا بود عبور كنند.17كاهنانی كه صندوق عهد خداوند را حمل میكردند در وسط راه خشک، ميان رودخانه ايستادند تا اينكه همهٔ قوم به آن طرف رودخانه رسيدند!
1Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out from Shittim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over. (يوشع 2:1)2At the end of three days the officers went through the camp (يوشع 1:10)3and commanded the people, “As soon as you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God being carried by the Levitical priests, then you shall set out from your place and follow it. (تثنيه 31:9; تثنيه 31:25; يوشع 3:8)4Yet there shall be a distance between you and it, about 2,000 cubits[1] in length. Do not come near it, in order that you may know the way you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.” (خروج 19:12)5Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” (خروج 19:10; خروج 19:14; لاويان 20:7; اعداد 11:18; يوشع 7:13; 1سموئيل 16:5; يوئيل 2:16)6And Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people. (اعداد 4:15)7The Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. (يوشع 1:5; يوشع 4:14; 1تواريخ 29:25; 2تواريخ 1:1)8And as for you, command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, ‘When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.’” (يوشع 3:3; يوشع 3:17)9And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God.”10And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. (تثنيه 9:3; ميكاه 4:13; زكريا 4:14; زكريا 6:5)12Now therefore take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, from each tribe a man. (اعداد 13:2; يوشع 4:2; يوشع 4:4)13And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.” (خروج 15:8; يوشع 3:11; يوشع 3:15; مزامير 78:13; مزامير 114:3)14So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, (اعمال رسولان مسيح 7:44)15and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest), (يوشع 3:13; يوشع 4:18; يوشع 5:10; يوشع 5:12; 1تواريخ 12:15; اِرميا 12:5; اِرميا 49:19; اِرميا 50:44)16the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho.
