1خداوند، پس از مرگ خدمتگزار خود، موسی، به دستيار او يوشع (پسر نون) فرمود:2«خدمتگزار من موسی، در گذشته است، پس تو برخيز و بنیاسرائيل را از رود اردن بگذران و به سرزمينی كه به ايشان میدهم، برسان.3همانطور كه به موسی گفتم، هر جا كه قدم بگذاريد، آنجا را به تصرف شما در خواهم آورد.4حدود سرزمين شما از صحرای نِگِب در جنوب تا کوههای لبنان در شمال، و از دريای مديترانه در غرب تا رود فرات و سرزمين حيتیها در شرق، خواهد بود.5همانطور كه با موسی بودم با تو نيز خواهم بود تا در تمام عمرت كسی نتواند در برابر تو مقاومت كند. تو را هرگز ترک نمیكنم و تنها نمیگذارم.6پس قوی و شجاع باش، چون تو اين قوم را رهبری خواهی كرد تا سرزمينی را كه به پدران ايشان وعده دادهام تصاحب نمايند.7فقط قوی و شجاع باش و از قوانينی كه خدمتگزارم موسی به تو داده است اطاعت نما، زيرا اگر از آنها به دقت اطاعت كنی، هر جا روی موفق خواهی شد.8اين كتاب تورات از تو دور نشود؛ شب و روز آن را بخوان و در گفتههای آن تفكر كن تا متوجه تمام دستورات آن شده، بتوانی به آنها عمل كنی. آنگاه پيروز و كامياب خواهی شد.9آری، قوی و شجاع باش و ترس و واهمه را از خود دور كن و به ياد داشته باش كه هر جا بروی من كه خداوند، خدای تو هستم، با تو خواهم بود.»10-11آنگاه يوشع به بزرگان اسرائيل دستور داد تا به ميان قوم بروند و به آنها بگويند: «توشهٔ خود را آماده كنيد، زيرا پس از سه روز از رود اردن خواهيم گذشت تا سرزمينی را كه خداوند به ما داده است تصرف كنيم و در آن ساكن شويم!»12-13سپس يوشع قولی را كه موسی، خدمتگزار خداوند، به قبايل رئوبين، جاد و نصف قبيلهٔ مَنَسی داده بود به آنها يادآوری كرد: «خداوند، خدای شما اين سرزمين را كه در شرق رود اردن است به شما داده است تا در آن ساكن شويد.14پس زنان و فرزندان و حيوانات خود را در اينجا بگذاريد و خود مسلح شويد و پيشاپيش بقيهٔ قبايل به آن طرف رود اردن برويد و ايشان را ياری دهيد15تا سرزمينی را كه خداوند، خدای شما به ايشان داده است تصاحب كنند و در آن ساكن شوند. آنگاه میتوانيد به اين ناحيهای كه موسی، خدمتگزار خداوند، در سمت شرقی رود اردن برای شما تعيين كرده است بازگرديد و در آن ساكن شويد.»16آنها در جواب يوشع گفتند: «آنچه به ما گفتی انجام خواهيم داد و هر جا كه ما را بفرستی، خواهيم رفت؛17-18چنانكه فرمانبردار موسی بوديم، تو را نيز اطاعت خواهيم نمود. خداوند، خدای تو با تو باشد، چنانكه با موسی بود. اگر كسی از فرمان تو سرپيچی كند و از تو اطاعت ننمايد، كشته خواهد شد. پس قوی و شجاع باش!»
1After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, (خروج 14:31; خروج 24:13; اعداد 12:7; تثنيه 1:38; تثنيه 34:5; يوشع 1:13; يوشع 1:15)2“Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel.3Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. (تثنيه 11:24; يوشع 14:9)4From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success[1] wherever you go. (تثنيه 5:32; تثنيه 28:14; يوشع 11:15; يوشع 23:6)8This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (مزامير 1:2; مزامير 119:15)9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Joshua Assumes Command
10And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, (تثنيه 16:18)11“Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’” (تثنيه 9:1; تثنيه 11:31; يوشع 3:2)12And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said,13“Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.’ (اعداد 32:20)14Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but all the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brothers and shall help them,15until the Lord gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.” (تثنيه 3:20; يوشع 22:4)16And they answered Joshua, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.17Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses! (يوشع 1:5)18Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death.
