1بوعز به دروازهٔ شهر كه محل اجتماع مردم شهر بود رفت و در آنجا نشست. آنگاه آن مرد كه نزديكترين خويشاوند شوهر نعومی بود به آنجا آمد. بوعز او را صدا زده گفت: «بيا اينجا! میخواهم چند كلمهای با تو صحبت كنم.» او آمد و نزد بوعز نشست.2آنگاه بوعز ده نفر از ريشسفيدان شهر را دعوت كرد تا شاهد باشند.3بوعز به خويشاوند خود گفت: «تو میدانی كه نعومی از سرزمين موآب برگشته است. او در نظر دارد ملک برادرمان اليملک را بفروشد.4فكر كردم بهتر است در اين باره با تو صحبت كنم تا اگر مايل باشی، در حضور اين جمع آن را خريداری نمايی. اگر خريدار آن هستی همين حالا بگو. در غير اين صورت خودم آن را میخرم. اما تو بر من مقدم هستی و بعد از تو حق من است كه آن ملک را خريداری نمايم.» آن مرد جواب داد: «بسيار خوب، من آن را میخرم.»5بوعز به او گفت: «تو كه زمين را میخری موظف هستی با روت نيز ازدواج كنی تا بچهدار شود و فرزندانش وارث آن زمين گردند و به اين وسيله نام شوهرش زنده بماند.»6آن مرد گفت: «در اين صورت من از حق خريد زمين میگذرم، زيرا فرزند روت وارث ملک من نيز خواهد بود. تو آن را خريداری كن.»7(در آن روزگار در اسرائيل مرسوم بود كه هرگاه شخصی میخواست حق خريد ملكی را به ديگری واگذار كند، كفشش را از پا در میآورند و به او میداد. اين عمل، معامله را در نظر مردم معتبر میساخت.)8پس آن مرد وقتی به بوعز گفت: «تو آن زمين را خريداری كن»، كفشش را از پا درآورد و به او داد.9آنگاه بوعز به ريشسفيدان محل و مردمی كه در آنجا ايستاده بودند گفت: «شما شاهد باشيد كه امروز من تمام املاک اليملک، كليون و محلون را از نعومی خريدم.10در ضمن با روت موآبی، زن بيوهٔ محلون ازدواج خواهم كرد تا او پسری بياورد كه وارث شوهر مرحومش گردد و به اين وسيله نام او در خاندان و در زادگاهش زنده بماند.»11همهٔ ريشسفيدان و مردمی كه در آنجا بودند گفتند: «ما شاهد بر اين معامله هستيم. خداوند اين زنی را كه به خانهٔ تو خواهد آمد، مانند راحيل و ليه بسازد كه فرزندانی برای يعقوب آوردند. باشد كه تو در افراته و بيتلحم معروف و كامياب شوی.12با فرزندانی كه خداوند بوسيلهٔ اين زن به تو میبخشد، خاندان تو مانند خاندان فارَص پسر تامار و يهودا باشد.»

13پس بوعز با روت ازدواج كرد و خداوند به آنها پسری بخشيد.14زنان شهر بيتلحم به نعومی گفتند: «سپاس بر خداوند كه تو را بیسرپرست نگذاشت و نوهای به تو بخشيد. باشد كه او در اسرائيل معروف شود.15عروست كه تو را دوست میدارد و برای تو از هفت پسر بهتر بوده، پسری به دنیا آورده است. اين پسر جان تو را تازه خواهد كرد و در هنگام پيری از تو مراقبت خواهد نمود.»16نعومی نوزاد را در آغوش گرفت و دايهٔ او شد.17زنان همسايه آن نوزاد را عوبيد ناميده گفتند: «پسری برای نعومی متولد شد!» (عوبيد پدر يسی و پدر بزرگ داوود پادشاه است.)18-22اين است نسب نامهٔ بوعز كه از فارص شروع شده، به داوود ختم میشود: فارص، حصرون، رام، عميناداب، نحشون، سلمون، بوعز، عوبيد، يسی و داوود.
1Now Boaz had gone up to the gate and sat down there. And behold, the redeemer, of whom Boaz had spoken, came by. So Boaz said, “Turn aside, friend; sit down here.” And he turned aside and sat down. Take my right of redemption yourself, for I cannot redeem it.” (روت 3:12)7Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning redeeming and exchanging: to confirm a transaction, the one drew off his sandal and gave it to the other, and this was the manner of attesting in Israel. (تثنيه 25:7)8So when the redeemer said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself,” he drew off his sandal.9Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought from the hand of Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to Chilion and to Mahlon. May the Lord make the woman, who is coming into your house, like Rachel and Leah, who together built up the house of Israel. Ruth and Boaz Marry
13So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son. (پيدايش 29:31; پيدايش 33:5)14Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without a redeemer, and may his name be renowned in Israel!
