1در آن زمان بنیاسرائيل پادشاهی نداشت. قبيلهٔ دان سعی میكردند مكانی برای سكونت خود پيدا كنند، زيرا سكنهٔ سرزمينی را كه برای آنها تعيين شده بود هنوز بيرون نرانده بودند.2پس افراد قبيلهٔ دان پنج نفر از جنگاوران خود را از شهرهای صرعه و اِشتائُل فرستادند تا موقعيت سرزمينی را كه قرار بود در آن ساكن شوند، بررسی نمايند. آنها وقتی به كوهستان افرايم رسيدند به خانهٔ ميخا رفتند و شب را در آنجا گذراندند.3در آنجا صدای آن لاوی جوان را شنيدند و او را شناختند. پس به طرف او رفته، از وی پرسيدند: «در اينجا چه میكنی؟ چه كسی تو را به اينجا آورده است؟»4لاوی جوان گفت: «ميخا مرا استخدام كرده تا كاهن او باشم.»5آنها گفتند: «حال كه چنين است، از خدا سؤال كن و ببين آيا در اين مأموريت، ما موفق خواهيم شد يا نه.»6كاهن پاسخ داد: «البته موفق خواهيد شد، زيرا كاری كه شما میكنيد منظور نظر خداوند است.»7پس آن پنج مرد روانه شده، به شهر لايش رفتند و ديدند كه مردم آنجا مثل صیدونیها در صلح و آرامش و امنيت به سر میبرند، زيرا در اطرافشان قبيلهای نيست كه بتواند به ايشان آزاری برساند. آنها از بستگان خود در صيدون نيز دور بودند و با آبادیهای اطراف خود رفت و آمدی نداشتند.8وقتی آن پنج جنگاور به صرعه و اِشتائُل نزد قبيلهٔ خود بازگشتند، مردم از آنها پرسيدند: «وضع آن ديار چگونه است؟»9-10آنها گفتند: «سرزمينی است حاصلخيز و وسيع كه نظير آن در دنيا پيدا نمیشود؛ مردمانش حتی آمادگی آن را ندارند كه از خودشان دفاع كنند! پس منتظر چه هستيد، برخيزيد تا به آنجا حمله كنيم و آن را به تصرف خود درآوريم زيرا خدا آن سرزمين را به ما داده است.»11با شنيدن اين خبر، از قبيلهٔ دان ششصد مرد مسلح از شهرهای صرعه و اِشتائُل به سوی آن محل حركت كردند.12آنها ابتدا در غرب قريهٔ يعاريم كه در يهودا است اردو زدند (آن مكان تا به امروز هم«اردوگاه دان» ناميده میشود)،13سپس از آنجا به كوهستان افرايم رفتند. هنگامی كه از كنار خانهٔ ميخا میگذشتند،14آن پنج جنگاور به همراهان خود گفتند: «خانهای در اينجاست كه در آن ايفود[1] و تعداد زيادی بت وجود دارد. خودتان میدانيد چه بايد بكنيم!» (داوران 17:4)15-16آن پنج نفر به خانهٔ ميخا رفتند و بقيهٔ مردان مسلح در بيرون خانه ايستادند. آنها با كاهن جوان سرگرم صحبت شدند.17سپس در حالی که كاهن جوان بيرون در با مردان مسلح ايستاده بود آن پنج نفر وارد خانه شده ايفود و بتها را برداشتند.18كاهن جوان وقتی ديد كه بتخانه را غارت میكنند، فرياد زد: «چه میكنيد؟»19آنها گفتند: «ساكت شو و همراه ما بيا و كاهن ما باش. آيا بهتر نيست به جای اينكه در يک خانه كاهن باشی، كاهن يک قبيله در اسرائيل بشوی؟»20كاهن جوان با شادی پذيرفت و ايفود و بتها را برداشته، همراه آنها رفت.21سپاهيان قبيلهٔ دان دوباره رهسپار شده، بچهها و حيوانات و اثاثيه خود را در صف اول قرار دادند.22پس از آنكه مسافت زيادی از خانهٔ ميخا دور شده بودند، ميخا و تنی چند از مردان همسايهاش آنها را تعقيب كردند.23آنها مردان قبيلهٔ دان را صدا میزدند كه بايستند. مردان قبيلهٔ دان گفتند: «چرا ما را تعقيب میكنيد؟»24ميخا گفت: «كاهن و همهٔ خدايان مرا بردهايد و چيزی برايم باقی نگذاشتهايد و میپرسيد چرا شما را تعقيب میكنم!»25مردان قبيلهٔ دان گفتند: «ساكت باشيد و گرنه ممكن است افراد ما عصبانی شده، همهٔ شما را بكشند.»26پس مردان قبيلهٔ دان به راه خود ادامه دادند. ميخا چون ديد تعداد ايشان زياد است و نمیتواند حريف آنها بشود، به خانهٔ خود بازگشت.27مردان قبيلهٔ دان، با كاهن و بتهای ميخا به شهر آرام و بیدفاع لايش رسيدند. آنها وارد شهر شده، تمام ساكنان آن را كشتند و خود شهر را به آتش كشيدند.28هيچكس نبود كه به داد مردم آنجا برسد، زيرا از صيدون بسيار دور بودند و با همسايگان خود نيز روابطی نداشتند كه در موقع جنگ به ايشان كمک كنند. شهر لايش در وادی نزديک بيترحوب واقع بود. مردم قبيلهٔ دان دوباره شهر را بنا كرده، در آن ساكن شدند.29آنها نام جد خود دان، پسر يعقوب را بر آن شهر نهادند.30ايشان بتها را در جای مخصوصی قرار داده، يهوناتان (پسر جرشوم و نوهٔ موسی) و پسرانش را به عنوان كاهنان خود تعيين نمودند. خانوادهٔ يهوناتان تا زمانی كه مردم به اسارت برده شدند، خدمت كاهنی آنجا را به عهده داشتند.31در تمام مدتی كه عبادتگاه مقدس در شيلوه قرار داشت، قبيلهٔ دان همچنان بتهای ميخا را میپرستيدند.
1In those days there was no king in Israel. And in those days the tribe of the people of Dan was seeking for itself an inheritance to dwell in, for until then no inheritance among the tribes of Israel had fallen to them. (يوشع 19:47; داوران 1:34; داوران 17:6; داوران 21:25)2So the people of Dan sent five able men from the whole number of their tribe, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to explore it. And they said to them, “Go and explore the land.” And they came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there. (اعداد 13:17; يوشع 2:1; يوشع 24:33; داوران 13:25; داوران 17:1; داوران 17:8; داوران 18:8; داوران 18:11)3When they were by the house of Micah, they recognized the voice of the young Levite. And they turned aside and said to him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? What is your business here?”4And he said to them, “This is how Micah dealt with me: he has hired me, and I have become his priest.” (داوران 17:10)5And they said to him, “Inquire of God, please, that we may know whether the journey on which we are setting out will succeed.” (اعداد 27:21)6And the priest said to them, “Go in peace. The journey on which you go is under the eye of the Lord.” (1سموئيل 1:17; 1پادشاهان 22:6)7Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and unsuspecting, lacking[1] nothing that is in the earth and possessing wealth, and how they were far from the Sidonians and had no dealings with anyone. (يوشع 19:47; داوران 18:10; داوران 18:27; داوران 18:28)8And when they came to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol, their brothers said to them, “What do you report?” (داوران 18:2; داوران 18:11)9They said, “Arise, and let us go up against them, for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. And will you do nothing? Do not be slow to go, to enter in and possess the land. (اعداد 13:20; يوشع 2:23; يوشع 18:3; 1پادشاهان 22:3)10As soon as you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people. The land is spacious, for God has given it into your hands, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.” (تثنيه 8:9; داوران 18:7; داوران 18:27; داوران 19:19)11So 600 men of the tribe of Dan, armed with weapons of war, set out from Zorah and Eshtaol, (داوران 18:16)12and went up and encamped at Kiriath-jearim in Judah. On this account that place is called Mahaneh-dan[2] to this day; behold, it is west of Kiriath-jearim. (يوشع 15:60; داوران 13:25)13And they passed on from there to the hill country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah. (داوران 18:2)14Then the five men who had gone to scout out the country of Laish said to their brothers, “Do you know that in these houses there are an ephod, household gods, a carved image, and a metal image? Now therefore consider what you will do.” (داوران 17:4)15And they turned aside there and came to the house of the young Levite, at the home of Micah, and asked him about his welfare. (پيدايش 43:27)16Now the 600 men of the Danites, armed with their weapons of war, stood by the entrance of the gate. (داوران 18:11)17And the five men who had gone to scout out the land went up and entered and took the carved image, the ephod, the household gods, and the metal image, while the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the 600 men armed with weapons of war. (داوران 17:4; داوران 18:2; داوران 18:14)18And when these went into Micah’s house and took the carved image, the ephod, the household gods, and the metal image, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?” (داوران 18:17)19And they said to him, “Keep quiet; put your hand on your mouth and come with us and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and clan in Israel?” (داوران 17:10; ايوب 21:5; ايوب 29:9; ايوب 40:4; امثال 30:32; ميكاه 7:16)20And the priest’s heart was glad. He took the ephod and the household gods and the carved image and went along with the people.21So they turned and departed, putting the little ones and the livestock and the goods in front of them. (1سموئيل 17:22; اشعيا 10:28)22When they had gone a distance from the home of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house were called out, and they overtook the people of Dan.23And they shouted to the people of Dan, who turned around and said to Micah, “What is the matter with you, that you come with such a company?”24And he said, “You take my gods that I made and the priest, and go away, and what have I left? How then do you ask me, ‘What is the matter with you?’” (پيدايش 31:30)25And the people of Dan said to him, “Do not let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall upon you, and you lose your life with the lives of your household.”26Then the people of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his home.27But the people of Dan took what Micah had made, and the priest who belonged to him, and they came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire. (يوشع 19:47; داوران 18:7; داوران 18:10)28And there was no deliverer because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with anyone. It was in the valley that belongs to Beth-rehob. Then they rebuilt the city and lived in it. (اعداد 13:21; يوشع 19:28; داوران 18:7; 2سموئيل 10:6)29And they named the city Dan, after the name of Dan their ancestor, who was born to Israel; but the name of the city was Laish at the first. (پيدايش 14:14; داوران 18:7; داوران 20:1; 1پادشاهان 12:29; 1پادشاهان 15:20)30And the people of Dan set up the carved image for themselves, and Jonathan the son of Gershom, son of Moses,[3] and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land. (خروج 2:22; خروج 18:3; داوران 13:1; داوران 17:12; 1سموئيل 4:2; 1سموئيل 4:10; مزامير 78:60)31So they set up Micah’s carved image that he made, as long as the house of God was at Shiloh.
