1 آوارگان موآب از شهر سالع كه در صحراست، برای پادشاه يهودا برهای به عنوان خراج میفرستند. 2 آنان مانند پرندگان بیآشيانه، در كنارهٔ رود اردن آواره شدهاند. 3 از مردم يهودا كمک میخواهند و با التماس میگويند: «ما را زير سايهٔ خود پناه دهيد. از ما حمايت كنيد. نگذاريد به دست دشمن بيفتيم. 4 اجازه دهيد ما آوارگان در ميان شما بمانيم. ما را از نظر دشمنانمان پنهان كنيد!» (سرانجام ظالم نابود خواهد شد و ستمكار و تاراج كننده از بين خواهد رفت. 5 آنگاه كسی از نسل داوود بر تخت پادشاهی خواهد نشست و با عدل و انصاف بر مردم حكومت خواهد كرد. حكومت او بر رحمت و راستی استوار خواهد بود.) 6 مردم يهودا میگويند: «ما دربارهٔ موآبیها شنيدهايم. میدانيم چقدر متكبرند و به خود فخر میكنند، اما فخر آنها بیاساس است.» 7 مردم موآب برای سرزمين خود گريه میكنند؛ نان كشمشی قيرحارست را به ياد میآورند و آه میكشند. 8 مزرعههای حشبون و تاكستانهای سبمه از بين رفتهاند؛ درختان انگور را فرماندهان سپاه دشمن بريدهاند. زمانی شاخههای اين درختان انگور تا به شهر يعزيز میرسيد و از بيابان گذشته، تا دريای مرده امتداد میيافت. 9 برای يعزيز و باغهای انگور سبمه گريه میكنم و ماتم میگيرم. اشكم چون سيل برای حشبون و العاله جاری میشود، زيرا ميوهها و محصولش تلف شده است. 10 شادی و خوشحالی برداشت محصول از بين رفته است؛ در باغهای انگور، ديگر نغمههای شاد به گوش نمیرسد؛ ديگر كسی انگور را در چرخشتها، زير پا نمیفشرد؛ صدای شادمانی خاموش شده است. 11 دل من مانند بربط برای موآب مینالد و برای قيرحارس آه میكشد. 12 اهالی موآب بیجهت به سوی بتخانههای خود بالا میروند تا دعا كنند؛ آنها بیجهت خود را خسته میكنند، زيرا دعايشان مستجاب نخواهد شد. 13 اين بود پيغامی كه خداوند از قبل دربارهٔ موآب فرموده بود. 14 اما اينک خداوند میفرمايد: «درست پس از سه سال، شكوه و جلال موآب از بين خواهد رفت و از جماعت زياد آن عدهٔ كمی باقی خواهند ماند و آنها نيز قوت خود را از دست خواهند داد.»

2 Like fleeing birds, like a scattered nest, so are the daughters of Moab at the fords of the Arnon. 11 Therefore my inner parts moan like a lyre for Moab, and my inmost self for Kir-hareseth. 13 This is the word that the Lord spoke concerning Moab in the past.
