1Palavras do rei Lemuel, que a sua mãe lhe transmitiu e ensinou:2Ó meu filho, filho das minhas entranhas, tu, a quem eu consagrei a Deus,3não gastes as tuas energias com mulheres, não entregues o teu destino às que até são capazes de levar reis à ruína.4Não convém que os reis, ó Lemuel, se deixem vencer pelo vinho e outras bebidas alcoólicas.5Porque se se derem à bebida, virão a esquecer os seus deveres e não saberão fazer justiça aos oprimidos.6As bebidas alcoólicas podem ajudar doentes, que estão para morrer, ou os que vivem deprimidos.7Bebendo, não se lembram mais da sua pobreza e miséria.8Não feches a boca, se puderes contribuir para ajudar os que não sabem se defender, e por todos os desamparados.9Não te cales, pois deves intervir sempre a favor dos necessitados, exigindo que se lhes faça justiça.
A esposa de carácter nobre
10Não é fácil encontrar uma mulher virtuosa; o seu valor ultrapassa em muito o das mais finas joias.11O seu marido tem confiança nela e os recursos materiais nunca lhe faltarão.12Nunca se tornará um empecilho para o seu esposo; pelo contrário, sempre o ajudará a vida toda.13Escolhe lã e linho, e vai costurando e trabalhando, com gosto, com as suas mãos.14Tal como um navio mercante, ela traz de longe os alimentos necessários à sua casa.15Levanta-se cedo, escuro ainda, para preparar as refeições para a família e distribuir o trabalho pelas suas empregadas.16Se é preciso comprar um terreno, vai pessoalmente examiná-lo com cuidado; ela própria cultiva a sua vinha com o produto do trabalho.17Concentra as energias e procura ganhar forças para o trabalho que lhe compete.18É cuidadosa em tudo o que compra; durante a noite há sempre uma luz acesa na casa.19Pega, de boa vontade, nas suas costuras, nas suas malhas.20Confeciona roupa para os necessitados, a quem as oferece com generosidade.21Também não tem receio do inverno, para a família, porque tem roupa quente suficiente para todos.22Prepara cobertores, lençóis, toalhas e cortinas com tecidos escolhidos; a roupa com que se veste é fina e de boa qualidade.23O seu marido é conhecido pela sua dignidade e pela sua participação honesta na vida cívica da localidade.24Ela própria também faz roupas de linho fino que vende aos negociantes.25É uma mulher com energia e dignidade e não tem medo da velhice.26Quando fala é com graça e sabedoria; há bondade em tudo quanto diz.27Zela pelo governo da casa; para ela não há preguiça.28Os seus filhos bendizem-na; e o marido louva-a, dizendo:29“Há muita mulher virtuosa neste mundo, mas tu és superior a todas!”30Os encantos femininos podem enganar; a beleza não dura sempre. Mas uma mulher que ama e teme o SENHOR, essa merece todos os elogios.31Louvem-na por tudo o que faz e os seus atos virtuosos serão reconhecidos publicamente.

The Woman Who Fears the Lord
10[4] An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. (Rt 3:11; Jó 28:18; Pv 12:4; Pv 18:22; Pv 19:14)11The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.12She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.13She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. (Pv 31:21; Pv 31:24)14She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar.15She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. (Sl 111:5; Pv 20:13; Lc 12:42)16She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.17She dresses herself[5] with strength and makes her arms strong. (Pv 31:25)18She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night.19She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.20She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. (Pv 31:17)26She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.27She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.28Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:29“Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” (Pv 31:10; Ct 6:9)30Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. (Pv 11:16)31Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
