1 “Atenção, diz o SENHOR dos exércitos! O dia do juízo está a chegar, ardendo como uma fornalha. O soberbo e o malvado arderão como palha, consumidos como uma árvore em labaredas; raízes e tudo arderá. 2 Mas para os que reverenciam o meu nome nascerá o Sol da justiça, que trará cura nos seus raios. Sairão, saltando como bezerros pastando, libertos do estábulo. 3 Nesse dia que estou a preparar, pisarão os ímpios como cinzas debaixo dos pés, diz o SENHOR dos exércitos. 4 Lembrem-se de obedecer à Lei que dei a todo o Israel por intermédio de Moisés, o meu servo, no monte Horebe, com todos os seus preceitos e mandamentos. 5 Mandarei-vos o profeta Elias, antes que venha o grande e terrível dia do SENHOR. 6 A sua pregação fará com que os pais se reconciliem com os filhos e os filhos com os pais. E saberão que, se não se arrependerem, virei e a sua terra será completamente destruída pela maldição.”

1 [1] “For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble. The day that is coming shall set them ablaze, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. (Is 47:14; Ml 3:2; Ml 3:15; Ml 4:5; Mt 3:12; Lc 3:17; 2 Ts 1:7) 2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall. (Sl 84:11; Is 53:5; Jr 23:6; Jr 50:11; Ml 3:16; Lc 1:78; Jo 1:4; Jo 8:12; Jo 9:5; Jo 12:46) 3 And you shall tread down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts. (Ml 3:17) 4 “Remember the law of my servant Moses, the statutes and rules[2] that I commanded him at Horeb for all Israel. (Ex 20:3; Dt 4:9; Dt 4:10) 5 “Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. (Jl 2:31; Ml 3:1; Mt 11:14; Mc 9:11; Lc 1:17) 6 And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.”[3] (Is 11:4; Zc 5:3; Lc 1:17)
