1Ouçam-me, ó povo de Jacob, vocês que são chamados pelo nome de Israel, descendentes de Judá! Vocês juram fidelidade ao nome do SENHOR e invocam o Deus de Israel, mas sem verdade nem retidão.2Gabam-se de viver na cidade santa, fanfarroneiam-se de depender do Deus de Israel, cujo nome é SENHOR dos exércitos.3Já muitas vezes vos disse o que iria acontecer no futuro. De repente, mal as minhas palavras eram pronunciadas, logo se realizava o que eu dissera.4Apesar disso, sei como são obstinados. Os vossos pescoços não dobram facilmente, são como o ferro; as vossas cabeças são duras como o bronze.5Foi por isso que quis anunciar-vos com antecipação o que ia fazer, para que nunca viessem a dizer: ‘Foi o meu ídolo quem fez isto! A minha imagem esculpida ordenou e aconteceu!’6Vocês ouviram as minhas predições e deram-se conta de como se realizaram e, mesmo assim, recusaram aceitar aquilo que estavam a constatar!7Agora vou dizer-vos coisas novas, que nunca mencionei previamente, que vocês nunca ouviram antes. Não poderão dizer: ‘Já sabíamos disso há muito!’8Sim, vou dar-vos a conhecer coisas inteiramente novas, pois sei bem como são traidores e rebeldes. Já desde os tempos da vossa infância que são completamente corruptos.9Mas por causa do meu próprio nome e pela minha honra refrearei a minha cólera e não vos açoitarei.10Refinei-vos, mas não como a prata. Fiz-vos passar pela fornalha das aflições.11Mas é por causa da minha honra, sim, é só por causa da minha honra que o faço, para que os gentios não venham a dizer que foram os deuses deles. Não lhes darei a eles a minha glória.
Israel é liberto
12Ouçam-me, descendência de Jacob, meus eleitos! Só eu sou Deus! Eu sou o primeiro! Eu sou o último!13Foi a minha mão que pôs os fundamentos da Terra; foi a minha mão direita que construiu o firmamento, o universo. Chamo por eles e estão prontos para fazer a minha vontade.14Venham, reúnam-se e ouçam! De entre esses ídolos, qual deles alguma vez predisse estas coisas? O escolhido do SENHOR irá executar o seu plano contra a Babilónia; o seu braço estender-se-á contra os exércitos da Caldeia.15Sou eu próprio quem o diz. Chamei-o, enviei-o com este propósito e vai sair-se bem.16Aproximem-se e ouçam! Sempre vos disse, com toda a simplicidade, o que iria acontecer, para que pudessem compreender claramente.” E agora o SENHOR Deus, e o seu Espírito, enviou-me com esta mensagem:17“O SENHOR, o vosso Redentor, o Santo de Israel diz assim: Eu sou o SENHOR, vosso Deus, que vos ensina o bem e vos conduz pelos caminhos por onde devem andar.18Oh! Se tivessem querido dar atenção às minhas leis! Teriam tido paz, sem interrupção, como as águas mansas dum rio correndo tranquilamente; a tua justiça teria sido abundante e forte como as ondas do mar.19Então ter-se-iam tornado tão numerosos como os grãos de areia das praias, incontáveis até, e não teria havido razão para vos destruir.”20Mesmo assim, libertem-se do vosso cativeiro na Babilónia! Deixem os caldeus, cantando, enquanto vão saindo. Gritem até aos confins da Terra que o SENHOR redimiu os seus servos, a descendência de Jacob.21Não tiveram sede enquanto eram conduzidos através dos desertos; bateu na rocha e jorrou água bastante para que todos bebessem.22“Mas para os perversos não haverá paz!”, diz o SENHOR.
1Hear this, O house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel, and who came from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the Lord and confess the God of Israel, but not in truth or right. (Is 41:26)4Because I know that you are obstinate, and your neck is an iron sinew and your forehead brass, (Ex 32:9)5I declared them to you from of old, before they came to pass I announced them to you, lest you should say, ‘My idol did them, my carved image and my metal image commanded them.’ (Is 48:3; Jr 44:15)6“You have heard; now see all this; and will you not declare it? From this time forth I announce to you new things, hidden things that you have not known. (Is 43:19)7They are created now, not long ago; before today you have never heard of them, lest you should say, ‘Behold, I knew them.’8You have never heard, you have never known, from of old your ear has not been opened. For I knew that you would surely deal treacherously, and that from before birth you were called a rebel. (Is 46:8)9“For my name’s sake I defer my anger; for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off. (Ml 3:6)10Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried[1] you in the furnace of affliction. (Dt 4:20; Ez 22:18; Ez 22:20; Ez 22:22; 1 Pe 1:7)11For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name[2] be profaned? My glory I will not give to another. (Is 42:8; Is 43:25; Ez 20:9)
The Lord’s Call to Israel
12“Listen to me, O Jacob, and Israel, whom I called! I am he; I am the first, and I am the last. (Is 41:4)13My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens; when I call to them, they stand forth together. (Sl 102:25; Is 40:26; Is 51:13; Hb 1:10)14“Assemble, all of you, and listen! Who among them has declared these things? The Lord loves him; he shall perform his purpose on Babylon, and his arm shall be against the Chaldeans. (Is 23:13; Is 41:26; Is 46:10; Is 47:1)15I, even I, have spoken and called him; I have brought him, and he will prosper in his way. (Is 45:1)16Draw near to me, hear this: from the beginning I have not spoken in secret, from the time it came to be I have been there.” And now the Lord God has sent me, and his Spirit. (Is 45:19; Is 61:1)17Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.18Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea; (Dt 32:29; Sl 81:13; Is 66:12; Lc 19:42)19your offspring would have been like the sand, and your descendants like its grains; their name would never be cut off or destroyed from before me.” (Gn 22:17; Is 10:22; Os 1:10)20Go out from Babylon, flee from Chaldea, declare this with a shout of joy, proclaim it, send it out to the end of the earth; say, “The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob!” (Ex 19:4; Is 23:13; Is 35:10; Is 44:23; Is 47:1; Is 52:9; Is 52:11; Jr 50:8; Jr 51:6; Jr 51:45; Zc 2:6)21They did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he made water flow for them from the rock; he split the rock and the water gushed out. (Ex 17:6; Nm 20:11; Dt 8:15; Is 35:6; Is 43:19; Is 44:3)22“There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.” (Is 57:21)
