1Ai daqueles que fogem para o Egito, procurando ajuda, confiando na sua poderosa cavalaria e nos seus carros de combate, em vez de olharem para o Santo de Israel e de o consultar!2Na sua sabedoria, Deus enviará grandes males ao seu povo e não mudará de ideias. Levantar-se-á contra eles, por causa do mal que fizeram, e esmagará também os seus aliados.3Esses egípcios são meros homens que não podem substituir Deus! Os seus cavalos são simplesmente carne e não poderosos espíritos! Quando o SENHOR fechar o seu punho contra eles, cambalearão e cairão, ali mesmo no meio daqueles que pretendiam ajudar, acabando todos por cair juntos.4O SENHOR disse-me o seguinte: “Quando um leão, mesmo que seja um leãozinho, mata uma ovelha, não liga ao barulho e aos gritos que faz o pastor; continua e come a presa. Da mesma maneira, o SENHOR dos exércitos virá e lutará pelo monte Sião; não se deixará atemorizar!5Ele, o SENHOR dos exércitos, pairará sobre Jerusalém, tal como as aves pairam sobre os ninhos para os defender, e assim protegerá e livrará a cidade.”6É verdade, ó meu povo, que vocês são profundamente rebeldes, mas peço-vos que se voltem para Deus!7Eu sei que ainda há de vir o dia glorioso em que cada um lançará para longe os seus ídolos de ouro, as imagens de prata que fizeram com as vossas próprias mãos e que são um pecado.8“Os Assírios serão destruídos, mas não por armas humanas. A espada de Deus os liquidará. Entrarão em pânico e fugirão; a forte mocidade assíria será tomada cativa, eles tornar-se-ão escravos.9Até mesmo os seus generais e chefes militares tremerão de terror e debandarão, quando virem as bandeiras de guerra de Israel!” Isto diz o SENHOR que tem o seu fogo em Sião e a sua fornalha em Jerusalém.
1Woe[1] to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord! When the Lord stretches out his hand, the helper will stumble, and he who is helped will fall, and they will all perish together. (Jr 17:5)4For thus the Lord said to me, “As a lion or a young lion growls over his prey, and when a band of shepherds is called out against him he is not terrified by their shouting or daunted at their noise, so the Lord of hosts will come down to fight[2] on Mount Zion and on its hill. (Is 42:13; Os 11:10; Am 1:2; Am 3:8)5Like birds hovering, so the Lord of hosts will protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it; he will spare and rescue it.” (Dt 32:11; Sl 91:4)6Turn to him from whom people[3] have deeply revolted, O children of Israel. (Is 1:5; Is 30:15)7For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your hands have sinfully made for you. (Is 2:20; Is 30:22)8“And the Assyrian shall fall by a sword, not of man; and a sword, not of man, shall devour him; and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be put to forced labor. (Gn 49:15; Pv 12:24; Is 37:36)9His rock shall pass away in terror, and his officers desert the standard in panic,” declares the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.
