1Ai da Samaria, rodeada pelo seu rico vale, coroa orgulhosa e o deleite dos bêbedos de Efraim! Ai da sua beleza passageira, o glorioso ornamento duma nação de gente caída nas valetas das ruas, vencida pelo vinho!2Porque o Senhor enviará um poderoso exército contra vocês; será como uma tremenda saraivada que vos cairá em cima e vos abaterá até ao chão.3A coroa soberba, o gozo dos ébrios de Efraim, será atirada ao chão e pisada aos pés dos seus inimigos.4A sua beleza superficial, com todo aquele fértil vale a rodeá-la, desaparecerá de repente como o primeiro figo maduro que é rapidamente colhido e engolido.5Então, por fim, o SENHOR dos exércitos, ele próprio se tornará a sua glória, a coroa de beleza do seu povo, daqueles que escaparam.6Ele dará aos seus juízes um grande desejo de justiça e uma grande coragem aos seus soldados, que se batem até à última gota de sangue, fazendo recuar o combate até às portas da cidade.7No entanto, neste momento Jerusalém é governada por bêbedos! Os seus sacerdotes e os seus profetas cambaleiam, vacilam e tropeçam, cometendo erros e enganos absolutamente estúpidos.8As suas mesas estão cobertas de vómito. Por toda a parte há sujidade.9“Mas afinal quem pensa Isaías que é”, diz o povo, “para falar assim desta maneira? Seremos nós criancinhas que ainda mal sabem falar?10Anda aqui a dar-nos sentenças e mais sentenças, sempre aos bocadinhos, uma linha de cada vez, em palavras muito simples!”11Na verdade, por lábios estranhos e por outra língua falará a este povo.12A quem disse: “Este é o lugar de descanso! Deem repouso ao que está cansado! Este é o lugar do alívio!” Mas não quiseram ouvir.13Então o SENHOR tornará a soletrar tudo novamente para eles, repetindo uma e outra vez em palavras muito simples. Mesmo assim, com essa mensagem simples e tão direta, eles tropeçarão e cairão, serão apanhados e capturados.14Portanto, ouçam a palavra do SENHOR, governantes escarnecedores que dominam o povo que está em Jerusalém:15“Fizemos um pacto com a morte, uma aliança com o mundo dos mortos!”, dizem vocês. “Quando o flagelo destruidor passar não nos apanhará, porque fizemos da mentira o nosso refúgio e da falsidade um esconderijo!”16Mas o SENHOR Deus diz: “Eis que ponho em Sião a principal pedra da construção, uma pedra segura; será uma preciosa pedra de esquina, solidamente assentada. Aquele que nele crer não ficará ansioso.17Pegarei na linha e no prumo da justiça para verificar a verticalidade da muralha que estão a construir. A saraiva varrerá o refúgio da mentira; uma avalanche inundará o esconderijo da falsidade.18Anularei a vossa aliança com a morte e com o mundo dos mortos, de tal forma que, quando vier o flagelo destruidor, serão esmagados.19Essa cheia tornará a vir, uma e outra vez, arrebatando-vos, até que por fim a força inconfundível da verdade dos meus avisos vos acordará.”20A cama que fizeram é demasiado curta para se deitarem; os cobertores são muito curtos, não vos tapam o bastante.21O SENHOR virá de repente e com ira, como no monte Perazim e no vale de Gibeão, para fazer algo estranho e invulgar, para destruir o seu próprio povo!22Por isso, não escarneçam mais, para que o vosso castigo não venha a tornar-se ainda mais duro; porque Deus, o SENHOR dos exércitos, me disse duma forma muito clara que está decidido a esmagar-vos.23Ouçam-me! Ouçam o que vos quero dizer!24Será que um lavrador passa todo o tempo a lavrar sem nunca chegar a semear? Ficará ele o tempo todo a abrir sulcos na terra sem nunca vir a plantar?25Não será que depois de nivelar o solo, acabará por plantar sementes, os grãos de nigela e depois os de cominho, o trigo, o milho miúdo e a cevada, nos regos convenientes, e o centeio nas margens?26Ele bem sabe o que deve fazer, porque é Deus quem o ensina e lhe faz ver como são as coisas.27Ele não debulha todos os grãos da mesma maneira. Um malho nunca é usado sobre a ervilhaca; bate-se antes com uma vara. Não se passa uma roda debulhadora sobre cominhos; sacodem-se antes, levemente, com um pau.28O trigo esmiuça-se facilmente, por isso, não se trilha continuamente.29O SENHOR dos exércitos é um conselheiro maravilhoso e dá sabedoria ao lavrador.
1Ah, the proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim, and the fading flower of its glorious beauty, which is on the head of the rich valley of those overcome with wine! (Os 7:5)2Behold, the Lord has one who is mighty and strong; like a storm of hail, a destroying tempest, like a storm of mighty, overflowing waters, he casts down to the earth with his hand. (Os 9:10; Am 8:1; Mq 7:1)5In that day the Lord of hosts will be a crown of glory,[2] and a diadem of beauty, to the remnant of his people, (Is 2:11)6and a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate. (1 Rs 3:28; Is 38:6)7These also reel with wine and stagger with strong drink; the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed by[3] wine, they stagger with strong drink, they reel in vision, they stumble in giving judgment. A Cornerstone in Zion
14Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers, who rule this people in Jerusalem! (Is 28:22; Is 29:20)15Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement, when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”; (Is 8:7; Is 28:2; Is 28:18; Rm 1:25)16therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid[4] as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’ (Sl 118:22; Is 14:32; Mt 21:42; At 4:11; Rm 9:33; 1 Pe 2:6)17And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter.” (2 Rs 21:13)18Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it. (Is 28:15)19As often as it passes through it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be sheer terror to understand the message. Does he continually open and harrow his ground?25When he has leveled its surface, does he not scatter dill, sow cumin, and put in wheat in rows and barley in its proper place, and emmer[5] as the border? (Is 55:10)26For he is rightly instructed; his God teaches him. (Is 21:10)27Dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, nor is a cart wheel rolled over cumin, but dill is beaten out with a stick, and cumin with a rod.28Does one crush grain for bread? No, he does not thresh it forever;[6] when he drives his cart wheel over it with his horses, he does not crush it.29This also comes from the Lord of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom.
