1O Espírito de Deus diz claramente que nos últimos tempos alguns se desviarão do caminho da fé, passando a dar ouvidos a espíritos enganadores e a doutrinas de demónios.2Estes dizem-lhes mentiras com o maior descaramento e a sua própria consciência se tornou insensível.3Serão contra o casamento, dirão que é preciso absterem-se de certos alimentos, embora Deus os tenha criado também para os que conhecem a verdade, para beneficiarem deles e dizerem a Deus o seu obrigado.4Pois tudo o que Deus criou é bom e para ser aproveitado com agradecimento.5Porque assim esses alimentos, por meio da oração feita de acordo com a palavra de Deus, são dedicados a Deus.6Se explicares estas coisas aos teus irmãos, estarás a ser um bom elemento ao serviço de Jesus Cristo, mostrando que te tens fortalecido com a palavra da fé e a verdadeira doutrina que tens seguido.7Não percas o teu tempo com fábulas e velhas histórias profanas. Exercita-te antes no caminho da piedade.8O exercício físico tem algum valor, mas o desenvolvimento da vida espiritual é útil em tudo, nesta vida e também na futura.9Esta é uma palavra digna de confiança que merece ser aceite por toda a gente.10Com efeito, se trabalhamos e lutamos, é porque a nossa esperança está no Deus vivo, que é o Salvador de todos os homens, dos crentes.11É esta a mensagem que deves comunicar e ensinar.12Que ninguém te desconsidere por seres jovem, mas sê um exemplo para os crentes pela forma como falas e no modo como vives, pelo amor cristão, pela fé, pela pureza.13Enquanto eu aí não chegar, continua a ler as Escrituras, a consolar e a ensinar.14Não te desinteresses pelo dom que possuis e que te foi dado a partir do momento em que os anciãos da igreja, em nome de Deus, colocaram sobre ti as mãos.15Medita nestas coisas; ocupa-te e entrega-te inteiramente a elas, e os teus progressos serão certamente constatados por toda a gente.16Mantém-te vigilante acerca de ti mesmo e daquilo que ensinas. Mantém-te fiel nestas coisas e assim te salvarás tanto a ti próprio como aos que te ouvem.

A Good Servant of Christ Jesus
6If you put these things before the brothers,[1] you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed. Rather train yourself for godliness; (1 Tm 1:4; Hb 5:14)8for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. (1 Tm 1:15)10For to this end we toil and strive,[2] because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. (Jo 4:42; 1 Tm 2:4)11Command and teach these things. (1 Tm 5:7; 1 Tm 6:2)12Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. (1 Co 16:11; 2 Tm 2:22; Tt 2:7; Tt 2:15; 1 Pe 5:3)13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.14Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. (At 6:6; 1 Ts 5:19; 1 Tm 1:18)15Practice these things, immerse yourself in them,[3] so that all may see your progress. (Fp 1:12)16Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. (Ez 33:9; At 20:28; Rm 11:14)
