Aviso contra falsas doutrinas
3Tal como te pedi, quando parti para a Macedónia, espero que fiques em Éfeso para avisares algumas pessoas que não ensinem outra doutrina.4E que não se deixem ir atrás de lendas, nem de genealogias intermináveis. Essas coisas só servem para levantar discussões; não ajudam os crentes a crescer espiritualmente, o que só pode acontecer através da fé.5O objetivo deste aviso é que se desenvolva o amor que nasce de um coração puro, de uma consciência limpa e de uma fé autêntica.6Mas alguns, desviando-se dessa linha de conduta, perdem-se em discussões inúteis.7Pretendem, por um lado, passar por professores da Lei; por outro, não entendem nem o sentido das palavras que empregam, nem aquilo que afirmam.8No que respeita à Lei de Moisés, sabemos que é boa, na condição de ser usada como Deus tencionava.9Mas é preciso ter em conta que a Lei não foi feita para os justos, mas para os que vivem na injustiça, para os que se mantêm obstinados nas suas próprias condutas, para os que desprezam a Deus, para os pecadores, para os que não dão valor às coisas divinas, para os que não hesitam em matar e que seriam até capazes de matar o pai e a mãe.10A Lei destina-se também aos que vivem na imoralidade sexual, aos homossexuais, aos raptores de gente, aos que são falsos e que não têm honra. Ela opõe-se a tudo o que for contrário à sã doutrina divina;11ao que for contrário à boa nova que revela a glória de Deus, ao bendito evangelho, esse de que fui considerado digno.
A gratidão de Paulo
12Estou muito reconhecido a Cristo Jesus nosso Senhor, que me tem dado forças, porque me considerou digno de estar ao seu serviço.13A mim que antigamente cheguei a blasfemar, que persegui os cristãos e os caluniei. Mas Deus teve misericórdia de mim, porque eu fazia isso por ignorância e incredulidade.14Contudo, Deus favoreceu grandemente a minha vida, enchendo-a de fé e do amor de Jesus Cristo.15Eis uma verdade inegável e que todo o mundo deve aceitar: Cristo Jesus veio ao mundo para salvar os pecadores. E eu considero-me o pior de todos.16Mas Deus ofereceu-me a sua misericórdia, para que em mim, que sou dos mais culpados, Jesus Cristo mostrasse até onde ia o seu perdão, e a minha vida fosse um exemplo que encorajasse outros a crer nele, a fim de alcançarem a vida eterna.17Por isso, honra e glória sejam dadas através de todos os tempos, ao único Deus, Rei eterno, invisível e imortal! Amém!
A responsabilidade de Timóteo
18Timóteo, meu filho, recomendo-te que, segundo as profecias que o Senhor enviou a teu respeito, sejas um combatente das batalhas justas.19Conserva a fé. Conserva igualmente uma consciência limpa. Porque alguns, fazendo calar a voz da consciência, provocaram o naufrágio da sua vida espiritual, perdendo a fé.20Entre esses estão Himeneu e Alexandre, que tive de entregar a Satanás, e isto para que aprendam a não blasfemar.

Warning Against False Teachers
3As I urged you when I was going to Macedonia, remain at Ephesus so that you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, (Gl 1:6; 1 Tm 6:3; Tt 1:5)4nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies, which promote speculations rather than the stewardship[1] from God that is by faith. (1 Tm 4:7; 1 Tm 6:4; 2 Tm 4:4; Tt 1:14; Tt 3:9; 2 Pe 1:16)5The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. (Rm 12:9; 2 Tm 1:5; 2 Tm 2:22; 1 Pe 3:16; 1 Pe 3:21)6Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, (1 Tm 6:21; Tt 1:10)7desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions. (Cl 2:18; 1 Tm 6:4)8Now we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully, (Rm 7:16)9understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, (Gl 5:23)10the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers,[2] liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound[3] doctrine, (1 Tm 6:3; 2 Tm 1:13; 2 Tm 4:3; Tt 1:13; Tt 2:2)11in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted. Christ Jesus Came to Save Sinners
12I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, (At 9:22; 2 Co 3:6; Fp 4:13)13though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, (At 3:17; At 8:3; 1 Co 7:25; 2 Co 4:1)14and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. (Lc 7:47; Lc 7:50; Rm 5:20; 1 Ts 1:3)15The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. (Mt 9:13; Jo 3:17; Rm 4:25; 1 Co 15:9; 1 Tm 3:1; 1 Tm 4:9; 2 Tm 2:11; Tt 3:8; Ap 22:6)16But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.17To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.[4] Amen. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, (1 Tm 3:9; 1 Tm 6:9)20among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
