1 Doch du Bethlehem in Efrata,^[1] / so klein unter den Hauptorten Judas: / Aus dir soll der hervorgehen, / der mein Herrscher über Israel wird!^[2] / Sein Ursprung liegt in der Vorzeit, / sein Anfang in der Ewigkeit. 2 Er gibt sein Volk den Fremden preis, / bis eine Frau den Sohn gebiert. / Dann kehrt der Rest seiner Brüder / zu den Israeliten zurück. 3 Er tritt auf und weidet sie in der Kraft Jahwes, / im höchsten Auftrag seines Gottes. / Sie werden in Sicherheit leben, / denn jetzt reicht seine Macht bis ans Ende der Welt. 4 Er wird der Friedensbringer sein, / wenn Assyrien in unser Land kommt / und in unsere Paläste eindringt. / Dann stellen wir sieben Hirten / und acht fürstliche Männer dagegen auf. 5 Mit dem Schwert werden sie Assyrien weiden, / Nimrods Land^[3] mit gezücktem Stahl. / So wird er uns vor Assyrien retten, / wenn es unser Land überfällt / und über unsere Grenzen marschiert.

Der heilige Rest

6 Dann wird der Rest von den Nachkommen Jakobs / wie Jahwes Tau unter den Völkern sein, / wie Regen, der auf die Pflanzen fällt, / der auf niemand angewiesen ist, / auf keinen Menschen zu warten braucht. 7 Der Rest von den Nachkommen Jakobs wird mitten unter den Völkern sein / wie der Löwe unter den Tieren im Wald, wie ein junger Löwe unter Herden von Schafen. / Er wirft zu Boden und zerreißt, was in seine Fänge kommt. Niemand rettet sie vor ihm. 8 Hoch erhebt sich deine Hand über deine Bedränger, / über alle deine Feinde, und rottet sie aus. 9 "Es kommt der Tag", spricht Jahwe, / "da nehme ich eure Pferde weg / und zerstöre eure Streitwagen, / 10 da vernichte ich eure Städte / und reiße eure Festungen nieder, 11 da schlage ich euch die Zaubermittel aus der Hand / und nehme euch die Wahrsager weg, 12 da rotte ich eure Götzenbilder aus / und zerschlage eure heiligen Steine, – dann werdet ihr nicht mehr niederfallen vor dem Werk eurer eigenen Hände –, 13 da reiße ich eure Aschera-Pfähle heraus / und zerstöre eure Städte, 14 da nehme ich in Zornglut Rache / an den Völkern, die nicht auf mich hören."

1 الآنَ احْشُدِي جُيُوشَكِ يَا مَدِينَةَ الْجُيُوشِ، لأَنَّ الْعَدُوَّ يُقِيمُ عَلَيْكِ حِصَاراً، وَسَيَضْرِبُ خَدَّ قَاضِي إِسْرَائِيلَ بِالْقَضِيبِ. 2 أَمَّا أَنْتِ يَا بَيْتَ لَحْمِ أَفْرَاتَةَ، مَعَ أَنَّكِ قَرْيَةٌ صَغِيرَةٌ بَيْنَ أُلُوفِ قُرَى يَهُوذَا، إِلّا أَنَّ مِنْكِ يَخْرُجُ لِي مَنْ يُصْبِحُ مَلِكاً فِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَأَصْلُهُ مُنْذُ الْقَدِيمِ، مُنْذُ الأَزَلِ. 3 لِذَلِكَ يُسَلِّمُ الرَّبُّ شَعْبَهُ إِلَى أَعْدَائِهِمْ إِلَى أَنْ تَلِدَ مَنْ تُقَاسِي مِنَ الْمَخَاضِ، عِنْدَئِذٍ تَرْجِعُ بَقِيَّةُ إِخْوَتِهِ مِنَ السَّبْيِ إِلَى شَعْبِ إِسْرَائِيلَ. 4 فَيَقُومُ وَيَرْعَى شَعْبَهُ بِقُوَّةِ الرَّبِّ وَبِجَلالِ اسْمِ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِهِ، فَيَعِيشُونَ بِأَمْنٍ، لأَنَّ عَظَمَتَهُ تَمْتَدُّ إِلَى أَقَاصِي الأَرْضِ.

5 وَيُصْبِحُ الرَّبُّ سَلامَهُمْ، إِذْ حِينَ يَزْحَفُ الأَشُّورِيُّونَ إِلَى أَرْضِنَا وَيَطَأُونَ تُرَابَنَا، فَإِنَّنَا نُثِيرُ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَةَ رُعَاةٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أُمَرَاءَ مِنَ النَّاسِ، 6 فَيَحْكُمُونَ بِلادَ أَشُّورَ بِقُوَّةِ السَّيْفِ، وَيَقْتَحِمُونَ بَوَّابَاتِ أَرْضِ نِمْرُودَ، وَيُنْقِذُنَا (اللهُ) مِنَ الأَشُّورِيِّينَ عِنْدَمَا يَزْحَفُونَ إِلَى أَرْضِنَا وَيَطَأُونَ تُخُومَنَا. 7 عِنْدَئِذٍ تَغْدُو بَقِيَّةُ ذُرِّيَّةِ يَعْقُوبَ بَيْنَ الأُمَمِ الْكَثِيرَةِ كَنَدىً مِنْ لَدُنِ الرَّبِّ، كَالْمَطَرِ الْوَابِلِ عَلَى الْعُشْبِ الَّذِي لَا يَتَوَانَى مِنْ أَجْلِ النَّاسِ أَوْ يَرْجُو أَبْنَاءَ الْبَشَرِ. 8 وَتَكُونُ بَقِيَّةُ ذُرِّيَّةِ يَعْقُوبَ بَيْنَ الشُّعُوبِ الْكَثِيرَةِ كَأَسَدٍ بَيْنَ وُحُوشِ الْغَابَةِ، أَوْ كَشِبْلٍ بَيْنَ قُطْعَانِ الْغَنَمِ، الَّذِي إِنِ اقْتَحَمَ يَدُوسُ وَيَفْتَرِسُ وَلَيْسَ مِنْ مُنْقِذٍ. 9 فَتَتَعَاظَمُ يَا شَعْبِي عَلَى مُبْغِضِيكَ، وَيَبِيدُ جَمِيعُ أَعْدَائِكَ. 10 وَيَقُولُ الرَّبُّ: فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ أَسْتَأْصِلُ خُيُولَكُمْ مِنْ بَيْنِكُمْ وَأُدَمِّرُ مَرْكَبَاتِ حَرْبِكُمْ، 11 وَأُخَرِّبُ مُدُنَكُمْ وَأَهْدِمُ جَمِيعَ حُصُونِكُمْ، 12 وَأَقْضِي عَلَى السِّحْرِ فِي دِيَارِكُمْ وَلا يَبْقَى لَكُمْ عَرَّافُونَ، 13 وَأَنْتَزِعُ تَمَاثِيلَكُمْ وَأَنْصَابَكُمْ مِنْ وَسَطِكُمْ، فَلا تَعُودُونَ تَسْجُدُونَ لأَصْنَامٍ مِنْ صُنْعِ أَيْدِيكُمْ. 14 وَأُفْنِي عَشْتَارُوثَ مِنْ بَيْنِكُمْ، وَأَهْدِمُ مُدُنَكُمْ، 15 وَبِغَضَبٍ وَسَخَطٍ أَنْتَقِمُ مِنَ الأُمَمِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُطِعْنِي.

New International Version

A promised ruler from Bethlehem

1 ^[1] Marshal your troops now, city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod. 2 ‘But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans^[2] of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.’ 3 Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labour bears a son, and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites. 4 He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. 5 And he will be our peace when the Assyrians invade our land and march through our fortresses. We will raise against them seven shepherds, even eight commanders, 6 who will rule^[3] the land of Assyria with the sword, the land of Nimrod with drawn sword.^[4] He will deliver us from the Assyrians when they invade our land and march across our borders. 7 The remnant of Jacob will be in the midst of many peoples like dew from the Lord, like showers on the grass, which do not wait for anyone or depend on man. 8 The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, in the midst of many peoples, like a lion among the beasts of the forest, like a young lion among flocks of sheep, which mauls and mangles as it goes, and no-one can rescue. 9 Your hand will be lifted up in triumph over your enemies, and all your foes will be destroyed. 10 ‘In that day,’ declares the Lord, ‘I will destroy your horses from among you and demolish your chariots. 11 I will destroy the cities of your land and tear down all your strongholds. 12 I will destroy your witchcraft and you will no longer cast spells. 13 I will destroy your idols and your sacred stones from among you; you will no longer bow down to the work of your hands. 14 I will uproot from among you your Asherah poles^[5] when I demolish your cities. 15 I will take vengeance in anger and wrath on the nations that have not obeyed me.’
