Neue evangelistische Übersetzung



1 Die Israeliten brachen wieder auf und schlugen ihr Lager in den Steppen Moabs auf, gegenüber von Jericho, auf der Ostseite des Jordan. 2 Balak Ben-Zippor sah alles, was Israel den Amoritern angetan hatte. 3 Und Moab fürchtete sich sehr vor diesem Volk, weil sie sahen, wie groß es war. Das Grauen vor den Israeliten hatte sie gepackt. 4 Da ließen die Moabiter den Ältesten von Midian sagen: "Nun wird dieser Haufen alles um uns herum abfressen, wie das Rind das letzte Grün auf dem Feld abfrisst." Balak Ben-Zippor war damals König von Moab. 5 Er schickte Boten zu Bileam Ben-Beor nach Petor[1] am Euphrat, wo Leute aus seinem Volk lebten, um ihn zu rufen. Er ließ ihm sagen: "Da ist ein Volk aus Ägypten herangezogen, das das ganze Land bedeckt. Es hat sich direkt neben mir niedergelassen. 6 Komm doch und verfluche dieses Volk, denn es ist mir zu stark! Vielleicht kann ich es dann schlagen und aus dem Land vertreiben. Ich weiß ja: Wen du segnest, der ist gesegnet, und wen du verfluchst, der ist verflucht." 7 Da gingen die Ältesten von Moab und Midian los. Den Wahrsagerlohn nahmen sie mit. Als sie zu Bileam kamen, richteten sie ihm die Botschaft Balaks aus. 8 Der sagte zu ihnen: "Bleibt heute Nacht hier, dann will ich euch Bescheid geben, wie Jahwe zu mir gesprochen hat." Da blieben die Abgesandten von Moab bei Bileam. 9 Gott kam zu Bileam und fragte: "Wer sind diese Männer bei dir?" 10 Bileam erwiderte: "König Balak Ben-Zippor von Moab hat sie zu mir geschickt: 11 Da ist ein Volk aus Ägypten herangezogen, das das ganze Land bedeckt. Komm doch und verfluche es mir! Vielleicht kann ich es dann bekämpfen und aus dem Land vertreiben." 12 Doch Gott sagte zu Bileam: "Du sollst nicht mitgehen! Du sollst das Volk nicht verfluchen, denn es ist gesegnet." 13 Am Morgen stand Bileam auf und sagte zu den Fürsten Balaks: "Ihr müsst allein in euer Land zurück. Jahwe hat sich geweigert, mir zu gestatten, mit euch zu gehen." 14 Da machten sich die Abgesandten Moabs wieder auf den Weg. Als sie zu Balak kamen, sagten sie: "Bileam hat sich geweigert, mit uns zu gehen." 15 Da schickte Balak eine noch größere Gesandtschaft von Männern, die noch angesehener waren. 16 Als sie zu Bileam kamen, sagten sie zu ihm: "So spricht Balak Ben-Zippor: Lass dich doch nicht abhalten, zu mir zu kommen! 17 Ich werde dich reich belohnen und alles tun, was du von mir verlangst. Komm doch und verfluche dieses Volk für mich!" 18 Doch Bileam erwiderte den Gesandten Balaks: "Selbst wenn Balak mir sein Haus voll Silber und Gold geben würde, könnte ich den Befehl meines Gottes Jahwe nicht übertreten, weder im Kleinen noch im Großen. 19 Aber bleibt auch ihr die Nacht über bei mir. Dann werde ich erfahren, was Jahwe mir noch sagt." 20 In der Nacht kam Gott zu Bileam und sagte: "Wenn die Männer gekommen sind, um dich zu holen, dann mach dich auf den Weg! Aber du darfst nur das tun, was ich dir sage!" 



21 Am Morgen brach Bileam auf, sattelte seine Eselin und machte sich mit der Gesandtschaft Moabs auf den Weg. 22 Da flammte Gottes Zorn auf, weil er mitging, und der Engel Jahwes[2] stellte sich ihm als Gegner in den Weg. Bileam ritt gerade auf seiner Eselin und wurde von zwei Dienern begleitet. 23 Die Eselin sah den Engel Jahwes mit dem gezückten Schwert auf dem Weg stehen. Sie wich vom Weg ab und ging auf dem Feld weiter. Bileam schlug sie und trieb sie auf den Weg zurück. 24 Da stellte sich der Engel Jahwes in einen Hohlweg zwischen den Weinbergen. Links und rechts waren Mauern. 25 Die Eselin sah den Engel Jahwes und drückte sich an die Mauer. Dabei drückte sie den Fuß Bileams an die Wand. Da schlug er sie wieder. 26 Der Engel Jahwes ging nochmals ein Stück weiter und trat an eine so enge Stelle, dass es keine Möglichkeit zum Ausweichen gab, weder rechts noch links. 27 Als die Eselin ihn sah, legte sie sich unter Bileam hin. Bileam schlug wütend mit dem Stock auf sie ein. 28 Da ließ Jahwe die Eselin sprechen. Sie sagte zu Bileam: "Was habe ich dir denn getan, dass du mich nun schon dreimal geschlagen hast?" 29 "Weil du mich zum Narren hältst", schrie Bileam. "Hätte ich nur ein Schwert in der Hand, wärst du jetzt schon tot." 30 Das Tier erwiderte: "Bin ich nicht deine Eselin, auf der du zeitlebens geritten bist? Habe ich jemals so reagiert wie heute?" – "Nein", sagte er. 31 Da öffnete Jahwe ihm die Augen, und er sah den Engel Jahwes mit dem gezückten Schwert auf dem Weg. Bileam beugte sich und warf sich dann ganz nieder, das Gesicht auf dem Boden. 32 Der Engel Jahwes sagte zu ihm: "Warum hast du deine Eselin nun schon dreimal geschlagen? Ich selbst habe mich gegen dich gestellt. Denn dein Weg ist ganz gegen mich. 33 Die Eselin sah mich und wich vor mir aus, nun schon dreimal! Hätte sie das nicht getan, dann hätte ich dich erschlagen und sie am Leben gelassen." 34 Da sagte Bileam zu dem Engel Jahwes: "Ich habe Unrecht getan. Ich habe nicht gemerkt, dass du dich mir entgegengestellt hast. Wenn dir nun die Sache missfällt, will ich umkehren." 35 "Geh mit den Männern!", sagte der Engel Jahwes. "Aber du darfst nur das aussprechen, was ich dir sage!" So zog Bileam mit der Gesandtschaft Balaks weiter. 



36 Als Balak hörte, dass Bileam zu ihm unterwegs war, zog er ihm bis zur Grenzstadt Moabs am Arnonfluss entgegen. 37 "Warum bist du nicht gleich gekommen?", sagte er zu Bileam. "Ich habe doch dringend nach dir geschickt! Kann ich dich vielleicht nicht angemessen belohnen?" 38 "Nun bin ich ja hier", erwiderte Bileam. "Ob ich aber wirklich etwas sagen kann, weiß ich nicht. Ich werde nur das sagen, was Gott mir befiehlt." 39 Bileam ging mit Balak bis nach Kirjat-Huzot.[3] 40 Dort ließ der König Rinder, Schafe und Ziegen für ein Opfermahl schlachten und bewirtete Bileam und die Fürsten, die bei ihm waren. 41 Am nächsten Morgen ging Balak mit Bileam auf die Baalshöhen. Von dort aus konnte er ein kleines Stück von Israel sehen.

1 وَارْتَحَلَ الإِسْرَائِيلِيُّونَ وَنَزَلُوا فِي سُهُولِ مُوآبَ، شَرْقِيَّ الأُرْدُنِّ مُقَابِلَ أَرِيحَا. 2 وَإِذْ بَلَغَ بَالاقَ بْنَ صِفُّورَ مَلِكَ مُوآبَ جَمِيعُ مَا أَنْزَلَهُ الإِسْرَائِيلِيُّونَ بِالأَمُورِيِّينَ، 3 اعْتَرَاهُ الْفَزَعُ لِكَثْرَةِ عَدَدِهِمْ، وَمَلأَ الْخَوْفُ قَلْبَ شَعْبِهِ مِنَ الإِسْرَائِيلِيِّينَ. 4 فَقَالَ بَالاقُ لِشُيُوخِ مِدْيَانَ: «إِنَّ هَذَا الْجُمْهُورَ قَادِرٌ عَلَى لَحْسِ كُلِّ مَا حَوْلَنَا كَمَا يَلْحَسُ الثَّوْرُ عُشْبَ الْحَقْلِ». 5 ثُمَّ بَعَثَ بِرُسُلٍ يَسْتَدْعِي بَلْعَامَ بْنَ بَعُورَ، الْمُقِيمَ فِي مَوْطِنِهِ فِي فَتُورَ، الْوَاقِعَةِ عَلَى نَهْرِ الْفُرَاتِ قَائِلاً: «هَا قَدْ خَرَجَ شَعْبٌ مِنْ مِصْرَ يُغَشِّي وَجْهَ الأَرْضِ بِكَثْرَتِهِ، وَهُوَ مُنْتَشِرٌ أَمَامِي. 6 فَتَعَالَ الآنَ وَالْعَنْ لِي هَذَا الشَّعْبَ لأَنَّهُ أَعْظَمُ مِنِّي، لَعَلِّي أَتَمَكَّنُ مِنْ دَحْرِهِ وَطَرْدِهِ مِنَ الأَرْضِ، لأَنِّي عَرَفْتُ أَنَّ مَنْ تُبَارِكُهُ يَكُونُ مُبَارَكاً وَمَنْ تَلْعَنُهُ يَكُونُ مَلْعُوناً». 7 فَمَضَى شُيُوخُ مُوآبَ وَشُيُوخُ مِدْيَانَ حَامِلِينَ مَعَهُمْ حُلْوَانَ الْعِرَافَةِ، وَأَقْبَلُوا عَلَى بَلْعَامَ وَأَبْلَغُوهُ كَلامَ بَالاقَ. 8 فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: «بِيتُوا هُنَا اللَّيْلَةَ، وَغَداً أَرُدُّ عَلَيْكُمْ جَوَاباً كَمَا يُعْلِنُ لِي الرَّبُّ». فَمَكَثَ رُؤَسَاءُ مُوآبَ عِنْدَ بَلْعَامَ. 9 فَتَجَلَّى اللهُ لِبَلْعَامَ وَسَأَلَهُ: «مَنْ هُمْ هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجَالُ الَّذِينَ عِنْدَكَ؟» 10 فَأَجَابَ: «لَقَدْ أَرْسَلَ بَالاقُ بْنُ صِفُّورَ مَلِكُ مُوآبَ إِلَيَّ قَائِلاً: 11 هَا قَدْ خَرَجَ شَعْبٌ مِنْ مِصْرَ يُغَشِّي وَجْهَ الأَرْضِ. فَتَعَالَ الآنَ وَالْعَنْهُ لِي، لَعَلِّي أَقْدِرُ عَلَى مُحَارَبَتِهِ وَطَرْدِهِ». 12 فَقَالَ اللهُ لِبَلْعَامَ: «لا تَمْضِ مَعَهُمْ وَلا تَلْعَنِ الشَّعْبَ لأَنَّهُ مُبَارَكٌ». 13 فَنَهَضَ بَلْعَامُ فِي الصَّبَاحِ وَقَالَ لِرُؤَسَاءِ بَالاقَ: «انْطَلِقُوا إِلَى دِيَارِكُمْ، لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ أَبَى أَنْ يَأْذَنَ لِي بِالذَّهَابِ مَعَكُمْ». 14 فَانْطَلَقَ رُؤَسَاءُ مُوآبَ وَأَبْلَغُوا بَالاقَ أَنَّ بَلْعَامَ رَفَضَ أَنْ يَحْضُرَ مَعَهُمْ. 15 فَعَادَ بَالاقُ وَبَعَثَ أَيْضاً عَدَداً مِنَ الرُّؤَسَاءِ أَكْبَرَ، وَعُظَمَاءَ أَكْثَرَ مِنَ الرُّؤَسَاءِ الأَوَّلِينَ. 16 فَقَدِمُوا عَلَى بَلْعَامَ وَقَالُوا: «هَذَا مَا يَقُولُهُ لَكَ بَالاقُ بْنُ صِفُّورَ: 17 لَا تَتَقَاعَسْ عَنِ الْمَجِيءِ إِلَيَّ، لأَنَّنِي سَأُبَالِغُ فِي إِكْرَامِكَ، وَكُلُّ مَا تَطْلُبُهُ أَفْعَلُهُ، فَتَعَالَ الآنَ وَالْعَنْ هَذَا الشَّعْبَ». 18 فَأَجَابَ بَلْعَامُ رُسُلَ بَالاقَ: «لا يُمْكِنُنِي أَنْ أَعْصَى أَمْرَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِي فِي أَيِّ عَمَلٍ صَغِيرٍ أَوْ كَبِيرٍ، وَلَوْ أَغْدَقَ عَلَيَّ بَالاقُ مِلْءَ قَصْرِهِ فِضَّةً وَذَهَباً. 19 فَالآنَ، اقْضُوا هُنَا لَيْلَتَكُمْ لأَعْلَمَ بِمَاذَا يَعُودُ الرَّبُّ فَيُوْصِينِي بِهِ». 20 فَتَرَاءَى اللهُ لِبَلْعَامَ لَيْلاً وَقَالَ لَهُ: «إِنْ جَاءَ الرِّجَالُ يَسْتَدْعُونَكَ فَقُمْ وَامْضِ مَعَهُمْ، إِنَّمَا لَا تَنْطِقْ إِلّا بِمَا آمُرُكَ بِهِ فَقَطْ». 



21 فَنَهَضَ بَلْعَامُ صَبَاحاً وَأَسْرَجَ أَتَانَهُ، وَانْطَلَقَ مَعَ رُؤَسَاءِ مُوآبَ. 22 فَاحْتَدَمَ غَضَبُ اللهِ لأَنَّهُ مَضَى مَعَهُمْ، فَاعْتَرَضَهُ مَلاكُ الرَّبِّ فِي الطَّرِيقِ لِيُقَاوِمَهُ وَهُوَ رَاكِبٌ عَلَى أَتَانِهِ وَغُلامَاهُ مَعَهُ. 23 فَأَبْصَرَتِ الأَتَانُ مَلاكَ الرَّبِّ مُنْتَصِباً فِي الطَّرِيقِ، وَقَدِ اسْتَلَّ سَيْفَهُ بِيَدِهِ، فَحَادَتْ عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ وَمَشَتْ فِي الْحَقْلِ. فَضَرَبَهَا بَلْعَامُ لِيَرُدَّهَا إِلَى الطَّرِيقِ. 24 ثُمَّ وَقَفَ مَلاكُ الرَّبِّ فِي مَمَرٍّ لِلْكُرُومِ يَقُومُ عَلَى جَانِبَيْهِ حَائِطَانِ. 25 فَلَمَّا شَاهَدَتِ الأَتَانُ مَلاكَ الرَّبِّ زَحَمَتْ جَانِبَ الْحَائِطِ وَضَغَطَتْ رِجْلَ بَلْعَامَ عَلَيْهِ، فَضَرَبَهَا أَيْضاً. 26 ثُمَّ اجْتَازَ بِهِ مَلاكُ الرَّبِّ وَوَقَفَ فِي مَوْضِعٍ ضَيِّقٍ، لَا سَبِيلَ فِيهِ لِلتَّحَوُّلِ يَمْنَةً أَوْ يَسْرَةً. 27 فَلَمَّا رَأَتِ الأَتَانُ مَلاكَ الرَّبِّ رَبَضَتْ تَحْتَ بَلْعَامَ. فَثَارَ غَضَبُ بَلْعَامَ وَضَرَبَ الأَتَانَ بِالْقَضِيبِ. 28 عِنْدَئِذٍ أَنْطَقَ الرَّبُّ الأَتَانَ، فَقَالَتْ لِبَلْعَامَ: «مَاذَا جَنَيْتُ حَتَّى ضَرَبْتَنِي الْآنَ ثَلاثَ دَفْعَاتٍ؟» 29 فَقَالَ بَلْعَامُ: «لأَنَّكِ سَخَرْتِ مِنِّي. لَوْ كَانَ فِي يَدِي سَيْفٌ لَكُنْتُ قَدْ قَتَلْتُكِ». 30 فَأَجَابَتْهُ الأَتَانُ: «أَلَسْتُ أَنَا أَتَانَكَ الَّتِي رَكِبْتَ عَلَيْهَا دَائِماً إِلَى هَذَا الْيَوْمِ؟ وَهَلْ عَوَّدْتُكَ أَنْ أَصْنَعَ بِكَ هَكَذَا؟» فَقَالَ: «لا». 31 عِنْدَئِذٍ كَشَفَ الرَّبُّ عَنْ عَيْنَيْ بَلْعَامَ، فَشَاهَدَ مَلاكَ الرَّبِّ مُنْتَصِباً فِي الطَّرِيقِ وَسَيْفُهُ مَسْلُولٌ فِي يَدِهِ، فَخَرَّ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ سَاجِداً. 32 فَقَالَ لَهُ مَلاكُ الرَّبِّ: «لِمَاذَا ضَرَبْتَ الآنَ أَتَانَكَ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ؟ فَهَا أَنَا قَدْ جِئْتُ لأَعْتَرِضَكَ، لأَنَّ طَرِيقَكَ مُلْتَوِيَةٌ فِي نَظَرِي، 33 فَشَاهَدَتْنِي الأَتَانُ فَحَادَتْ مِنْ أَمَامِي ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ. وَلَوْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ لَكُنْتُ قَدْ قَتَلْتُكَ وَاسْتَحْيَيْتُهَا». 34 فَقَالَ بَلْعَامُ لِمَلاكِ الرَّبِّ: «لَقَدْ أَخْطَأْتُ، وَلَمْ أَعْلَمْ أَنَّكَ وَاقِفٌ لاِعْتِرَاضِي فِي الطَّرِيقِ. وَالآنَ إِنْ سَاءَ فِي عَيْنَيْكَ فَإِنِّي أَرْجِعُ». 35 فَقَالَ مَلاكُ الرَّبِّ لِبَلْعَامَ: «امْضِ مَعَ الرِّجَالِ، وَلَكِنْ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ تَنْطِقَ بِمَا آمُرُكَ بِهِ فَقَطْ». فَانْطَلَقَ بَلْعَامُ مَعَ رُؤَسَاءِ بَالاقَ. 36 فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ بَالاقَ أَنَّ بَلْعَامَ قَدْ قَدِمَ أَسْرَعَ لاِسْتِقْبَالِهِ إِلَى مَدِينَةِ مُوآبَ الْوَاقِعَةِ عَلَى حُدُودِ أَرْنُونَ الْقَصِيَّةِ. 37 فَقَالَ بَالاقُ لِبَلْعَامَ: «أَلَمْ أَبْعَثْ إِلَيْكَ أَسْتَدْعِيكَ؟ فَلِمَاذَا لَمْ تَقْدِمْ عَلَيَّ؟ أَحَقّاً أَعْجَزُ عَنْ إِكْرَامِكَ؟» 38 فَأَجَابَ بَلْعَامُ: «هَا أَنَا جِئْتُ إِلَيْكَ. أَتَظُنُّ أَنَّ فِي وُسْعِي أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ الآنَ بِمَا أُرِيدُ؟ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أَنْطِقَ فَقَطْ بِمَا يَأْمُرُنِي بِهِ الرَّبُّ». 39 فَمَضَى بَلْعَامُ مَعَ بَالاقَ حَتَّى أَقْبَلا إِلَى قَرْيَةِ حَصُوتَ. 40 فَذَبَحَ بَالاقُ بَقَراً وَغَنَماً وَأَرْسَلَهَا إِلَى بَلْعَامَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ مِنَ الرُّؤَسَاءِ. 41 وَفِي الصَّبَاحِ التَّالِي أَخَذَ بَالاقُ بَلْعَامَ إِلَى مُرْتَفَعَاتِ بَعْلٍ، فَرَأَى مِنْ هُنَاكَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كُلَّهُمْ.

1 Then the people of Israel set out and camped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho. (4Mo 26,3; 4Mo 26,63; 4Mo 31,12; 4Mo 33,48; 4Mo 33,50; 4Mo 35,1; 4Mo 36,13) 2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites. (Ri 11,25) 3 And Moab was in great dread of the people, because they were many. Moab was overcome with fear of the people of Israel. (2Mo 15,15) 4 And Moab said to the elders of Midian, “This horde will now lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field.” So Balak the son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time, (4Mo 31,8; Jos 13,21) 5 sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor at Pethor, which is near the River[1] in the land of the people of Amaw,[2] to call him, saying, “Behold, a people has come out of Egypt. They cover the face of the earth, and they are dwelling opposite me. (4Mo 23,7; 5Mo 23,4; Jos 24,9; Neh 13,2; Mi 6,5; 2Petr 2,15; Jud 1,11; Offb 2,14) 6 Come now, curse this people for me, since they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them from the land, for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.” (4Mo 23,7) 7 So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the fees for divination in their hand. And they came to Balaam and gave him Balak’s message. (4Mo 22,4; 1Sam 9,7; Mi 3,11) 8 And he said to them, “Lodge here tonight, and I will bring back word to you, as the Lord speaks to me.” So the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam. 9 And God came to Balaam and said, “Who are these men with you?” (1Mo 20,3; Hi 33,15) 10 And Balaam said to God, “Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying, 11 ‘Behold, a people has come out of Egypt, and it covers the face of the earth. Now come, curse them for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them and drive them out.’” 12 God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.” (4Mo 23,20) 13 So Balaam rose in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, “Go to your own land, for the Lord has refused to let me go with you.” 14 So the princes of Moab rose and went to Balak and said, “Balaam refuses to come with us.” 15 Once again Balak sent princes, more in number and more honorable than these. 16 And they came to Balaam and said to him, “Thus says Balak the son of Zippor: ‘Let nothing hinder you from coming to me, 17 for I will surely do you great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do. Come, curse this people for me.’” (4Mo 22,11; 4Mo 22,37; 4Mo 24,11) 18 But Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, “Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the command of the Lord my God to do less or more. (4Mo 22,38; 4Mo 23,26; 4Mo 24,13; 1Kön 22,14; 2Chr 18,13) 19 So you, too, please stay here tonight, that I may know what more the Lord will say to me.” (4Mo 22,8) 20 And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only do what I tell you.” (4Mo 22,9; 4Mo 22,35; 4Mo 23,12; 4Mo 23,26; 4Mo 24,13) 21 So Balaam rose in the morning and saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab. 



22 But God’s anger was kindled because he went, and the angel of the Lord took his stand in the way as his adversary. Now he was riding on the donkey, and his two servants were with him. (2Mo 4,24; 4Mo 22,32; 1Chr 21,16) 23 And the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road, with a drawn sword in his hand. And the donkey turned aside out of the road and went into the field. And Balaam struck the donkey, to turn her into the road. 24 Then the angel of the Lord stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on either side. 25 And when the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, she pushed against the wall and pressed Balaam’s foot against the wall. So he struck her again. 26 Then the angel of the Lord went ahead and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left. 27 When the donkey saw the angel of the Lord, she lay down under Balaam. And Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he struck the donkey with his staff. 28 Then the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?” (2Petr 2,16) 29 And Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have made a fool of me. I wish I had a sword in my hand, for then I would kill you.” 30 And the donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long to this day? Is it my habit to treat you this way?” And he said, “No.” 31 Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, with his drawn sword in his hand. And he bowed down and fell on his face. (1Mo 21,19; 2Kön 6,17; Lk 24,16; Lk 24,31) 32 And the angel of the Lord said to him, “Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out to oppose you because your way is perverse[3] before me. (4Mo 22,22) 33 The donkey saw me and turned aside before me these three times. If she had not turned aside from me, surely just now I would have killed you and let her live.” 34 Then Balaam said to the angel of the Lord, “I have sinned, for I did not know that you stood in the road against me. Now therefore, if it is evil in your sight, I will turn back.” (1Sam 15,24; 1Sam 26,21; 2Sam 12,13; Hi 34,31) 35 And the angel of the Lord said to Balaam, “Go with the men, but speak only the word that I tell you.” So Balaam went on with the princes of Balak. (4Mo 22,20) 36 When Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him at the city of Moab, on the border formed by the Arnon, at the extremity of the border. (4Mo 21,13) 37 And Balak said to Balaam, “Did I not send to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Am I not able to honor you?” (4Mo 22,17; 4Mo 24,11) 38 Balaam said to Balak, “Behold, I have come to you! Have I now any power of my own to speak anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that must I speak.” (4Mo 22,18) 39 Then Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath-huzoth. 40 And Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent for Balaam and for the princes who were with him. 41 And in the morning Balak took Balaam and brought him up to Bamoth-baal, and from there he saw a fraction of the people.

Придя к Валааму, они передали ему всё, что сказал Валак. 8 – Переночуйте здесь, – сказал им Валаам, – и я передам вам ответ, который даст мне Вечный. Моавские вожди остались у него. 9 Всевышний явился к Валааму и спросил: – Кто эти люди, которые у тебя? 10 Валаам сказал Всевышнему: – Валак, сын Циппора, царь Моава, прислал сказать мне: 11 «Народ, который вышел из Египта, покрыл лицо земли. Приди и прокляни мне их. Может быть, тогда я смогу сразиться с ними и прогнать их». 12 Всевышний сказал Валааму: – Не ходи с ними. Не проклинай этот народ, потому что он благословен. 13 На следующее утро Валаам встал и сказал вождям Валака: – Ступайте в свою страну. Вечный отказался отпустить меня с вами. 14 Моавские вожди вернулись к Валаку и сказали: – Валаам отказался пойти с нами. 15 Валак послал других вождей, которых было больше, и они были знатнее первых. 16 Они пришли к Валааму и сказали: – Так говорит Валак, сын Циппора: «Не откажись прийти ко мне. 17 Я щедро вознагражу тебя и сделаю всё, что ты скажешь. Приди, прокляни мне этот народ». 18 Но Валаам ответил вождям Валака: – Даже если бы Валак предлагал мне свой дворец, полный серебра и золота, я не смог бы сделать ничего вопреки повелению Вечного, моего Бога. 19 Впрочем, останьтесь здесь на ночь, как те другие, а я узнаю, что ещё скажет мне Вечный. 20 В ту ночь Всевышний явился к Валааму и сказал: – Раз эти люди пришли, чтобы призвать тебя, вставай и иди с ними, но делай лишь то, что Я тебе скажу. 



21 Валаам встал утром, оседлал ослицу и пошёл с вождями Моава. 22 Но Всевышний разгневался, когда он пошёл[1], и Ангел Вечного[2] встал на дороге, чтобы помешать ему. Валаам ехал на ослице, и с ним были двое его слуг. (2Petr 2,15; Jud 1,11) 23 Когда ослица увидела Ангела Вечного, Который стоял на дороге с обнажённым мечом в руке, она свернула с дороги в поле. Валаам стал бить её, чтобы вернуть на дорогу. 24 Тогда Ангел Вечного встал на узкой тропе между двумя виноградниками, где по обе стороны дороги были стены. 25 Увидев Ангела Вечного, ослица прижалась к стене и придавила ногу Валаама. Он стал бить её снова. 26 Тогда Ангел Вечного перешёл вперёд и встал в тесном месте, где нельзя было повернуть ни вправо, ни влево. 27 Увидев Ангела Вечного, ослица легла под Валаамом, а он разгневался и стал бить её палкой. 28 Тогда Вечный дал ослице дар речи, и она сказала Валааму: – Что я тебе сделала, что ты три раза подряд избил меня? 29 Валаам ответил ослице: – Ты издевалась надо мной! Будь у меня в руке меч, я бы сейчас убил тебя. 30 Ослица сказала Валааму: – Разве я не твоя ослица, на которой ты ездил всегда до этого дня? Была ли у меня привычка поступать так с тобой? – Нет, – ответил он. 31 Тогда Вечный открыл Валааму глаза, и он увидел Ангела Вечного, Который стоял на дороге с обнажённым мечом. Валаам поклонился, пав на лицо своё. 32 Ангел Вечного спросил его: – За что ты три раза подряд бил ослицу? Я пришёл сюда, чтобы помешать тебе, потому что твой путь не угоден Мне. 33 Ослица увидела Меня и сворачивала от Меня три раза подряд. Если бы она не сворачивала, то Я бы уже убил тебя, а её пощадил. 34 Валаам сказал Ангелу Вечного: – Я согрешил. Я не знал, что Ты стоишь на дороге, чтобы помешать мне. Но теперь, если Ты недоволен, я пойду назад. 35 Ангел Вечного сказал Валааму: – Иди с этими людьми, но говори лишь то, что Я тебе скажу. И Валаам пошёл с вождями Валака. 36 Услышав, что идёт Валаам, Валак вышел встретить его к моавскому городу на арнонской границе, на краю своей земли. 37 Валак сказал Валааму: – Разве я не посылал, чтобы призвать тебя? Почему ты не приходил ко мне? Разве я не в силах вознаградить тебя? 38 – Вот я и пришёл к тебе, – ответил Валаам. – Но в силах ли я сказать хоть что-то? Я должен говорить лишь то, что велит мне Всевышний. 39 Валаам пошёл с Валаком в город Кириат-Хуцот. 40 Валак принёс в жертву волов и овец и послал часть мяса Валааму и вождям, которые были с ним. 



41 На следующее утро Валак взял Валаама на Бамот-Баал («высоты Баала»)[3], и оттуда он увидел часть исраильского народа.
