1 Dem Volk aber wurde das Warten auf die Rückkehr Moses zu viel. Da sammelten sie sich bei Aaron und sagten zu ihm: „Los! Mach uns Götter, die uns anführen! Denn was aus diesem Mose geworden ist, der uns aus Ägypten hierher geführt hat, wissen wir nicht.“ 2 Aaron erwiderte: „Nehmt euren Frauen, Söhnen und Töchtern die goldenen Ringe ab und bringt sie mir!“ 3 Da zerrten sich alle die goldenen Ohrringe ab und brachten sie zu Aaron. 4 Der nahm das Gold entgegen, schmolz es ein und verwendete es, um die Skulptur^[1] von einem Kalb anzufertigen. Da riefen alle: „Das sind deine Götter, Israel! Die haben dich aus dem Land Ägypten geführt!“^[2] (2Mo 20,2) 5 Als Aaron das sah, baute er einen Altar davor und rief: „Morgen ist ein Fest für Jahwe!“ 6 Am folgenden Tag standen sie früh auf und opferten Brand- und Freudenopfer. Dann setzten sie sich hin, um zu essen und zu trinken. Anschließend standen sie auf, um sich zu vergnügen.^[3] (1Kor 10,7) 7 Da sagte Jahwe zu Mose: „Geh, steig hinunter, denn dein Volk, das du aus Ägypten hierher geführt hast, läuft ins Verderben! 8 Sie sind schnell von dem Weg abgewichen, den ich ihnen vorgeschrieben habe. Ein Stierkalb haben sie sich gebaut und sind vor ihm niedergefallen. Sie haben ihm Opfer gebracht und gesagt: 'Das sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus dem Land Ägypten geführt haben.'“ 9 Weiter sagte Jahwe zu Mose: „Ich habe gesehen, wie eigensinnig dieses Volk ist. 10 Lass mich jetzt meinen Zorn über sie ausschütten und sie vernichten. Dafür werde ich dich zu einem großen Volk machen.“ 11 Doch Mose flehte Jahwe, seinen Gott, an und sagte: „O Jahwe, warum willst du deinen Zorn über dein Volk ausschütten, das du eben erst mit großer Macht und starker Hand aus Ägypten herausgeführt hast? 12 Warum sollen die Ägypter sagen dürfen: 'Er hat sie nur herausgeführt, um sie dort am Berg umzubringen und vom Erdboden verschwinden zu lassen.'? Lass ab von deinem glühenden Zorn und lass das Unheil nicht über dein Volk kommen! 13 Denk an deine Diener Abraham, Isaak und Israel, denen du bei dir selbst geschworen hast, ihre Nachkommen so zahlreich zu machen wie die Sterne am Himmel. Du hast ihnen zugesichert, dass ihre Nachkommen das versprochene Land für immer in Besitz nehmen werden.“ 14 Da tat es Jahwe leid, seinem Volk das angedrohte Unheil anzutun. 15 Mose kehrte um und stieg den Berg hinunter. In der Hand hielt er die beiden Tafeln, die göttliche Urkunde. Sie waren vorn und hinten beschrieben. 16 Diese Tafeln waren Gottes Werk, und die Schrift darauf war von Gott selbst eingraviert worden. 17 Als Josua den Lärm hörte, den das Volk im Lager machte, sagte er zu Mose: „Es muss Krieg im Lager sein!“ 18 „Nein“, sagte Mose, „das klingt nicht wie Siegesjubel und auch nicht wie das Klagegeschrei nach einer Niederlage. Was ich höre, klingt nach Festgesang!“ 19 Als Mose dem Lager näher kam, das Stierkalb erblickte und die Reigentänze sah, packte ihn der Zorn, und er zerschmetterte die Tafeln unten am Berg. 20 Dann nahm er das Stierkalb, das sie gemacht hatten, und warf es ins Feuer. Schließlich zermalmte er alles zu Staub und streute ihn auf das Wasser, das die Israeliten trinken mussten. 21 Zu Aaron sagte er: „Was hat dir das Volk angetan, dass du es in so schwere Sünde gebracht hast?“ 22 Aaron erwiderte: „Werde bitte nicht zornig, mein Herr. Du weißt doch, wie böse dieses Volk ist. 23 Sie haben zu mir gesagt: 'Mach uns Götter, die uns anführen! Denn wir wissen nicht, was aus diesem Mose geworden ist, der uns aus Ägypten hierher geführt hat.' 24 Da fragte ich sie: 'Wer hat Gold?' Da rissen sie es sich ab und gaben es mir. Ich habe es ins Feuer geworfen, und da ist dieses Stierkalb daraus geworden.“ 25 Mose begriff, dass das Volk zügellos geworden war, denn Aaron hatte die Zügel schleifen lassen – zur Schadenfreude ihrer Feinde. 26 Mose stellte sich an den Eingang des Lagers und rief: „Her zu mir, wer für Jahwe ist!“ Da sammelten sich alle Leviten um ihn.^[4] (2Mo 1,2) 27 Er sagte zu ihnen: „So spricht Jahwe, der Gott Israels: Jeder von euch hole sein Schwert! Dann geht ihr durch das ganze Lager hin und her von einem Tor zum andern und erschlagt ‹alle Götzendiener›, selbst wenn es der eigene Bruder, Freund oder Verwandte ist.“ (1Kor 10,7) 28 Die Leviten führten den Befehl Moses aus und töteten an jenem Tag etwa dreitausend Mann. 29 Darauf sagte Mose zu ihnen: „Weiht euch heute für Jahwe, damit er seinen Segen auf euch legt, denn keiner von euch hat den eigenen Sohn oder Bruder verschont.“ 30 Am nächsten Tag sagte Mose zum Volk: „Ihr habt gesündigt, schwer gesündigt! Darum will ich jetzt zu Jahwe hinaufsteigen. Vielleicht kann ich erreichen, dass Gott eure Sünde zudeckt.“ 31 Darauf kehrte Mose zu Jahwe zurück und sagte: „Ach, dieses Volk hat eine schwere Sünde begangen: Sie haben sich einen Gott aus Gold gemacht. 32 Wenn du ihnen doch ihre Sünde vergeben könntest! Wenn aber nicht, dann lösch meinen Namen aus dem Buch, das du geschrieben hast.“ 33 Doch Jahwe sagte: „Ich lösche nur den aus meinem Buch, der gegen mich gesündigt hat. 34 Geh jetzt und führe das Volk an den Ort, den ich dir genannt habe, und mein Engel wird vor dir hergehen. Zur gegebenen Zeit werde ich sie für ihre Sünde zur Rechenschaft ziehen.“ 35 Später bestrafte Jahwe das Volk dafür, dass sie Aaron verleitet hatten, das Stierkalb zu machen.

1 وَلَمَّا رَأَى الشَّعْبُ أَنَّ مُوسَى قَدْ طَالَتْ إقَامَتُهُ عَلَى الْجَبَلِ، اجْتَمَعُوا حَوْلَ هَرُونَ، وَقَالُوا لَهُ: «هَيَّا، اصْنَعْ لَنَا إِلَهاً يَتَقَدَّمُنَا فِي مَسِيرِنَا، لأَنَّنَا لَا نَدْرِي مَاذَا أَصَابَ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ مُوسَى الَّذِي أَخْرَجَنَا مِنْ دِيَارِ مِصْرَ». 2 فَأَجَابَهُمْ هَرُونُ: «انْزِعُوا أَقْرَاطَ الذَّهَبِ الَّتِي فِي آذَانِ نِسَائِكُمْ وَبَنَاتِكُمْ وَبَنِيكُمْ، وَأَعْطُونِي إِيَّاهَا». 3 فَنَزَعُوهَا مِنْ آذَانِهِمْ، وَجَاءُوا بِها إِلَيْهِ. 4 فَأَخَذَهَا مِنْهُمْ وَصَهَرَهَا وَصَاغَ عِجْلاً. عِنْدَئِذٍ قَالُوا: «هَذِهِ آلِهَتُكَ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ الَّتِي أَخْرَجَتْكَ مِنْ دِيَارِ مِصْرَ». 5 وَعِنْدَمَا شَاهَدَ هَرُونُ ذَلِكَ شَيَّدَ مَذْبَحاً أَمَامَ الْعِجْلِ وَأَعْلَنَ: «غَداً هُوَ عِيدٌ لِلرَّبِّ». 6 فَبَكَّرَ الشَّعْبُ فِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّانِي وَأَصْعَدُوا مُحْرَقَاتٍ وَقَدَّمُوا قَرَابِينَ سَلامٍ. ثُمَّ احْتَفَلُوا فَأَكَلُوا وَشَرِبُوا، وَمِنْ ثَمَّ قَامُوا لِلَّهْوِ وَالْمُجُونِ. 7 فَأَمَرَ الرَّبُّ مُوسَى: «قُمْ وَانْزِلْ فَإِنَّ الشَّعْبَ الَّذِي قَدْ أَخْرَجْتَهُ مِنْ دِيَارِ مِصْرَ، قَدْ فَسَدَ. 8 إِذِ انْحَرَفُوا سَرِيعاً عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ الَّذِي أَمَرْتُهُمْ بِهِ، فَصَاغُوا لَهُمْ عِجْلاً وَعَبَدُوهُ وَذَبَحُوا لَهُ الذَّبَائِحَ هَاتِفِينَ: هَذَا هُوَ إِلهُكَ يَا إِسْرَائِيلُ الَّذِي أَخْرَجَكَ مِنْ دِيَارِ مِصْرَ». 9 وَقَالَ الرَّبُّ لِمُوسَى: «لَقَدْ تَأَمَّلْتُ فِي هَذَا الشَّعْبِ، وَإذَا بِهِ شَعْبٌ عَنِيدٌ مُتَصَلِّبُ الْقَلْبِ. 10 وَالآنَ دَعْنِي وَغَضَبِي الْمُحْتَدِمَ فَأَفْنِيَهُمْ، ثُمَّ أَجْعَلَكَ أَنْتَ شَعْباً عَظِيماً». 11 فَابْتَهَلَ مُوسَى إِلَى الرَّبِّ وَقَالَ: «لِمَاذَا يَحْتَدِمُ غَضَبُكَ عَلَى شَعْبِكَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجْتَهُ مِنْ دِيَارِ مِصْرَ بِقُوَّةٍ عَظِيمَةٍ وَذِرَاعٍ مُقْتَدِرَةٍ؟ 12 لِمَاذَا يَشْمَتُ الْمِصْرِيُّونَ فِينَا قَائِلِينَ: لَقَدِ احْتَالَ عَلَيْهِمْ إِلَهُهُمْ فَأَخْرَجَهُمْ مِنْ هَهُنَا لِيُهْلِكَهُمْ فِي الْجِبَالِ وَيُفْنِيَهُمْ عَنْ وَجْهِ الأَرْضِ. ارْجِعْ عَنْ حُمُوِّ غَضَبِكَ وَلا تُوْقِعْ هَذَا الْعِقَابَ بِشَعْبِكَ. 13 اذْكُرْ وُعُودَكَ لِعَبِيدِكَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَإِسْرَائِيلَ الَّذِينَ أَقْسَمْتَ لَهُمْ بِنَفْسِكَ قَائِلاً: أُكَثِّرُ نَسْلَكُمْ كَنُجُومِ السَّمَاءِ، وَأَهَبُكُمْ جَمِيعَ هَذِهِ الأَرْضِ الَّتِي وَعَدْتُ بِها فَتَمْلِكُونَهَا إِلَى الأَبَدِ». 14 فَتَرَاءَفَ الرَّبُّ وَلَمْ يُوْقِعْ بِشَعْبِهِ الْعِقَابَ الَّذِي تَوَعَّدَ بِهِ. 15 ثُمَّ نَزَلَ مُوسَى وَانْحَدَرَ مِنَ الجَبَلِ حَامِلاً فِي يَدِهِ لَوْحَيِ الشَّهَادَةِ (الْوَصَايَا الْعَشْرِ)، وَقَدْ نُقِشَتْ كِتَابَةٌ عَلَى وَجْهَيْ كُلٍّ مِنْهُمَا، 16 وَكَانَ اللهُ قَدْ صَنَعَ اللَّوْحَيْنِ وَنَقَشَ الْكِتَابَةَ عَلَيْهِمَا. 17 وَسَمِعَ يَشُوعُ هُتَافَ الشَّعْبِ فَقَالَ لِمُوسَى: «هَذَا صَوْتُ تَأَهُّبٍ لِقِتَالٍ فِي المُخَيَّمِ». 18 فَأَجَابَهُ مُوسَى: «هَذَا لَيْسَ هُتَافَ نَصْرَةٍ وَلا صُرَاخَ هَزِيمَةٍ، لَكِنْ مَا أَسْمَعُهُ هُوَ صَوْتُ غِنَاءٍ». 19 وَمَا إِنِ اقْتَرَبَ مُوسَى مِنَ الْمُخَيَّمِ وَشَاهَدَ الْعِجْلَ وَالرَّقْصَ حَتَّى احْتَدَمَ غَضَبُهُ وَأَلْقَى بِاللَّوْحَيْنِ مِنْ يَدِهِ وَكَسَّرَهُمَا عِنْدَ سَفْحِ الْجَبَلِ. 20 ثُمَّ أَخَذَ العِجْلَ الذَّهَبِيَّ وَأَحْرَقَهُ بِالنَّارِ وَطَحَنَهُ حَتَّى صَارَ نَاعِماً، وَذَرَّاهُ عَلَى وَجْهِ الْمَاءِ وَأَرْغَمَهُمْ عَلَى الشُّرْبِ مِنْهُ. 21 وَقَالَ مُوسَى لِهرُونَ: «مَاذَا فَعَلَ بِكَ هَذَا الشَّعْبُ حَتَّى جَلَبْتَ عَلَيْهِ هَذِهِ الْخَطِيئَةَ الْعَظِيمَةَ؟» 22 فَأَجَابَ هَرُونُ: «لا يَحْتَدِمْ غَضَبُ سَيِّدِي. إِنَّكَ تَعْرِفُ شَرَّ هَذَا الشَّعْبِ. 23 لَقَدْ قَالُوا لِي: اصْنَعْ لَنَا إِلَهاً يَتَقَدَّمُنَا فِي مَسِيرِنَا، لأَنَّنَا لَا نَدْرِي مَاذَا أَصَابَ هَذَا الرَّجُلَ مُوسَى الَّذِي أَخْرَجَنَا مِنْ دِيَارِ مِصْرَ، 24 فَقُلْتُ لَهُمْ مَنْ لَدَيْهِ ذَهَبٌ فَلْيَنْزِعْهُ وَيُعْطِنِي إِيَّاهُ، فَطَرَحْتُهُ فِي النَّارِ فَخَرَجَ هَذَا الْعِجْلُ». 25 وَلَمَّا رَأَى مُوسَى أَنَّ الشَّعْبَ غَارِقٌ فِي مُجُونِهِ بَعْدَ أَنْ أَفْلَتَ هَرُونُ زِمَامَهُمْ فَصَارُوا بِذَلِكَ مَثَارَ سُخْرِيَةِ أَعْدَائِهِمْ، 26 وَقَفَ فِي بَابِ الْمُخَيَّمِ وَصَاحَ: «كُلُّ مَنْ يَتْبَعُ الرَّبَّ فَلْيُقْبِلْ إِلَيَّ هُنَا». فَاجْتَمَعَ حَوْلَهُ اللّاوِيُّونَ. 27 فَهَتَفَ بِهِمْ: «هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ الرَّبُّ إِلَهُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ: لِيَتَقَلَّدْ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ سَيْفَهُ، وَجُولُوا فِي الْمُخَيَّمِ ذِهَاباً وَإِيَاباً مِنْ مَدْخَلٍ إِلَى مَدْخَلٍ، وَاقْتُلُوا كُلَّ دَاعِرٍ أَخاً كَانَ أَمْ صَاحِباً أَمْ قَرِيباً». 28 فَأَطَاعَ اللّاوِيُّونَ أَمْرَ مُوسَى. فَقُتِلَ مِنَ الشَّعْبِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ نَحْوَ ثَلاثَةِ آلافِ رَجُلٍ. 29 عِنْدَئِذٍ قَالَ مُوسَى لِلّاوِيِّينَ: «لَقَدْ كَرَّسْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ أَنْفُسَكُمْ لِخِدْمَةِ الرَّبِّ، وَقَدْ كَلَّفَ ذَلِكَ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْكُمْ قَتْلَ ابْنِهِ أَوْ أَخِيهِ، وَلِكِنْ لِيُنْعِمْ عَلَيْكُمُ الرَّبُّ فِي هَذَا اليَوْمِ بِبَرَكَةٍ». 30 وَفِي الْغَدِ قَالَ مُوسَى لِلشَّعْبِ: «لَقَدِ ارْتَكَبْتُمْ خَطِيئَةً عَظِيمَةً، وَهَا أَنَا أَعُودُ إِلَى الْجَبَلِ لأَمْثُلَ أَمَامَ الرَّبِّ، لَعَلِّي أَحْظَى لَكُمْ بِغُفْرَانِهِ». 31 وَرَجَعَ مُوسَى إِلَى الرَّبِّ وَتَضَرَّعَ قَائِلاً: «يَا رَبُّ لَقَدِ اقْتَرَفَ هَذَا الشَّعْبُ خَطِيئَةً عَظِيمَةً، وَصَاغُوا لأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِلَهاً مِنْ ذَهَبٍ. 32 وَالآنَ إِنْ شِئْتَ، فَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ، وَإلَّا فَامْحُنِي مِنْ كِتَابِكَ الَّذِي كَتَبْتَ». 33 فَأَجَابَ الرَّبُّ مُوسَى: «الَّذِي أَخْطَأَ إِلَيَّ أَمْحُوهُ مِنْ كِتَابِي 34 وَالآنَ اذْهَبْ، وَقُدِ الشَّعْبَ إِلَى الْمَكَانِ الَّذِي ذَكَرْتُهُ لَكَ. وَهَا هُوَ مَلاكِي يَتَقَدَّمُكَ، وَلَكِنْ لابُدَّ مِنْ مُعَاقَبَةِ الشَّعْبِ عَلَى خَطِيئَتِهِمْ فِي يَوْمِ قَضَائِي». 35 وَضَرَبَ الرَّبُّ الشَّعْبَ بالْوَبَأِ عِقَاباً لَهُمْ عَلَى عِبَادَةِ الْعِجْلِ الَّذِي صَنَعَهُ هَرُونُ.

The Golden Calf

1 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. 15 Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets that were written on both sides; on the front and on the back they were written. Тогда они сказали: – Вот твой бог, Исраил, который вывел тебя из Египта! 5 Увидев это, Харун поставил перед тельцом жертвенник и возвестил: – Завтра – праздник Вечному. 6 Встав на следующий день рано утром, они принесли всесожжения и жертвы примирения. Народ сел есть и пить, а потом встал и начал веселиться. 7 Тогда Вечный сказал Мусе: – Спускайся с горы. Они дали мне золото, я бросил его в огонь, и получился этот телец! 25 Муса увидел, что люди необузданны, потому что Харун позволил им это на посмешище врагам; 26 он встал у входа в лагерь и сказал: – Кто за Вечного – ко мне, – и вокруг него собрались все левиты. 27 Он сказал им: – Так говорит Вечный, Бог Исраила: «Все опояшьтесь мечом! Идите через лагерь от одного края к другому и обратно, убивая братьев, друзей и ближних». 28 Левиты сделали, как повелел Муса, и в тот день погибло около трёх тысяч человек. 29 Муса сказал: – Сегодня вы посвятили себя служению Вечному ценой сыновей и братьев, и Он благословил вас. 30 На другой день Муса сказал народу: – Вы совершили страшный грех. Но сейчас я поднимусь к Вечному; может быть, я смогу загладить ваш грех. 31 Муса вернулся к Вечному и сказал: – Да, эти люди совершили страшный грех, сделав себе золотого бога. 32 Но теперь, молю, прости их, а если не простишь, так сотри и моё имя из книги, которую Ты написал^[2]. Но когда придёт срок, Я накажу их за грех. 35 Вечный поразил народ мором за то, что они сделали тельца – того, которого изготовил Харун.
