1“Pois o Reino dos céus é como um proprietário que saiu de manhã cedo para contratar trabalhadores para a sua vinha.2Ele combinou pagar-lhes um denário[1] pelo dia e mandou-os para a sua vinha.3“Por volta das nove horas da manhã[2], ele saiu e viu outros que estavam desocupados na praça,4e lhes disse: ‘Vão também trabalhar na vinha, e eu pagarei a vocês o que for justo’.5E eles foram. “Saindo outra vez, por volta do meio-dia e das três horas da tarde[3], fez a mesma coisa.6Saindo por volta das cinco horas da tarde[4], encontrou ainda outros que estavam desocupados e lhes perguntou: ‘Por que vocês estiveram aqui desocupados o dia todo?’7‘Porque ninguém nos contratou’, responderam eles. “Ele lhes disse: ‘Vão vocês também trabalhar na vinha’.8“Ao cair da tarde, o dono da vinha disse a seu administrador: ‘Chame os trabalhadores e pague-lhes o salário, começando com os últimos contratados e terminando nos primeiros’.9“Vieram os trabalhadores contratados por volta das cinco horas da tarde, e cada um recebeu um denário.10Quando vieram os que tinham sido contratados primeiro, esperavam receber mais. Mas cada um deles também recebeu um denário.11Quando o receberam, começaram a se queixar do proprietário da vinha,12dizendo-lhe: ‘Estes homens contratados por último trabalharam apenas uma hora, e o senhor os igualou a nós, que suportamos o peso do trabalho e o calor do dia’.13“Mas ele respondeu a um deles: ‘Amigo, não estou sendo injusto com você. Você não concordou em trabalhar por um denário?14Receba o que é seu e vá. Eu quero dar ao que foi contratado por último o mesmo que dei a você.15Não tenho o direito de fazer o que quero com o meu dinheiro? Ou você está com inveja porque sou generoso?’16“Assim, os últimos serão primeiros, e os primeiros serão últimos”[5].
Jesus Prediz Novamente sua Morte e Ressurreição
17Enquanto estava subindo para Jerusalém, Jesus chamou em particular os doze discípulos e lhes disse:18“Estamos subindo para Jerusalém, e o Filho do homem será entregue aos chefes dos sacerdotes e aos mestres da lei. Eles o condenarão à morte19e o entregarão aos gentios[6] para que zombem dele, o açoitem e o crucifiquem. No terceiro dia ele ressuscitará!”
O Pedido de uma Mãe
20Então, aproximou-se de Jesus a mãe dos filhos de Zebedeu com seus filhos e, prostrando-se, fez-lhe um pedido.21“O que você quer?”, perguntou ele. Ela respondeu: “Declara que no teu Reino estes meus dois filhos se assentarão um à tua direita e o outro à tua esquerda”.22Disse-lhes Jesus: “Vocês não sabem o que estão pedindo. Podem vocês beber o cálice que eu vou beber?” “Podemos”, responderam eles.23Jesus lhes disse: “Certamente vocês beberão do meu cálice; mas o assentar-se à minha direita ou à minha esquerda não cabe a mim conceder. Esses lugares pertencem àqueles para quem foram preparados por meu Pai”.24Quando os outros dez ouviram isso, ficaram indignados com os dois irmãos.25Jesus os chamou e disse: “Vocês sabem que os governantes das nações as dominam, e as pessoas importantes exercem poder sobre elas.26Não será assim entre vocês. Ao contrário, quem quiser tornar-se importante entre vocês deverá ser servo,27e quem quiser ser o primeiro deverá ser escravo;28como o Filho do homem, que não veio para ser servido, mas para servir e dar a sua vida em resgate por muitos”.
Dois Cegos Recuperam a Visão
29Ao saírem de Jericó, uma grande multidão seguiu Jesus.30Dois cegos estavam sentados à beira do caminho e, quando ouviram falar que Jesus estava passando, puseram-se a gritar: “Senhor, Filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de nós!”31A multidão os repreendeu para que ficassem quietos, mas eles gritavam ainda mais: “Senhor, Filho de Davi, tem misericórdia de nós!”32Jesus, parando, chamou-os e perguntou-lhes: “O que vocês querem que eu faça?”33Responderam eles: “Senhor, queremos que se abram os nossos olhos”.34Jesus teve compaixão deles e tocou nos olhos deles. Imediatamente eles recuperaram a visão e o seguiram.
1“For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.2After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius[1] a day, he sent them into his vineyard.3And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace,4and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’5So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same.6And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ (1 Co 15:8)7They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’8And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ (Lv 19:13; Dt 24:15; Mt 24:45; Lc 8:3)9And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius.10Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius.11And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house,12saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ (Lc 12:55; Tg 1:11)13But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? (Mt 22:12; Mt 26:50)14Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. (Mt 25:25)15Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? 20Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. (Mt 4:21; Mt 8:2; Mt 27:56; Mc 10:35)21And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” (Mt 16:28; Mt 19:28; Mt 25:31; Mt 25:34; Lc 23:42)22Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” (Is 51:22; Mt 26:29; Mt 26:42; Mc 14:36; Lc 9:33; Lc 22:42; Lc 23:34; Jo 18:11)23He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” (Mt 19:11; Mt 25:34; At 12:2; Rm 8:17; Fp 3:10; Ap 1:9)24And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers.25But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. Jesus Heals Two Blind Men
29And as they went out of Jericho, a great crowd followed him. (Mt 9:27; Mc 10:46; Lc 18:35)30And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord,[5] have mercy on us, Son of David!” (Mt 1:1; Mt 21:9; Mt 22:42)31The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” (Mt 19:13)32And stopping, Jesus called them and said, “What do you want me to do for you?”33They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.”34And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him.
