1Esta é a palavra que veio a Jeremias da parte do SENHOR:2“Fique junto à porta do templo do SENHOR e proclame esta mensagem: “Ouçam a palavra do SENHOR, todos vocês de Judá que atravessam estas portas para adorar o SENHOR.3Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Corrijam a sua conduta e as suas ações, eu os farei habitar neste lugar.4Não confiem nas palavras enganosas dos que dizem: ‘Este é o templo do SENHOR, o templo do SENHOR, o templo do SENHOR!’5Mas, se vocês realmente corrigirem a sua conduta e as suas ações, e se, de fato, tratarem uns aos outros com justiça,6se não oprimirem o estrangeiro, o órfão e a viúva e não derramarem sangue inocente neste lugar, e, se vocês não seguirem outros deuses para a sua própria ruína,7então eu os farei habitar neste lugar, na terra que dei aos seus antepassados desde a antiguidade e para sempre.8Mas vejam! Vocês confiam em palavras enganosas e inúteis.9“Vocês pensam que podem roubar e matar, cometer adultério e jurar falsamente[1], queimar incenso a Baal e seguir outros deuses que vocês não conheceram,10e depois vir e permanecer perante mim neste templo, que leva o meu nome, e dizer: ‘Estamos seguros!’, seguros para continuar com todas essas práticas repugnantes?11Este templo, que leva o meu nome, tornou-se para vocês um covil de ladrões? Cuidado! Eu mesmo estou vendo isso”, declara o SENHOR.12“Portanto, vão agora a Siló, o meu lugar de adoração, onde primeiro fiz uma habitação em honra ao meu nome, e vejam o que eu lhe fiz por causa da impiedade de Israel, o meu povo.13Mas agora, visto que vocês fizeram todas essas coisas”, diz o SENHOR, “apesar de eu ter falado a vocês repetidas vezes, e vocês não me terem dado atenção, e de eu tê-los chamado, e vocês não me terem respondido,14eu farei a este templo que leva o meu nome, no qual vocês confiam, o lugar de adoração que dei a vocês e aos seus antepassados, o mesmo que fiz a Siló.15Expulsarei vocês da minha presença, como fiz com todos os seus compatriotas, o povo de Efraim.16“E você, Jeremias, não ore por este povo nem faça súplicas ou pedidos em favor dele, nem interceda por ele junto a mim, pois eu não o ouvirei.17Não vê o que estão fazendo nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém?18Os filhos ajuntam a lenha, os pais acendem o fogo, e as mulheres preparam a massa e fazem bolos para a Rainha dos Céus. Além disso, derramam ofertas a outros deuses para provocarem a minha ira.19Mas será que é a mim que eles estão provocando?”, pergunta o SENHOR. “Não é a si mesmos, para a sua própria vergonha?”20Portanto, assim diz o Soberano, o SENHOR: “A minha ardente ira será derramada sobre este lugar, sobre os homens, os animais, e as árvores do campo, como também sobre o produto do solo; ela arderá como fogo e não poderá ser extinta”.21Assim diz o SENHOR dos Exércitos, o Deus de Israel: “Juntem os seus holocaustos aos outros sacrifícios e comam a carne vocês mesmos!22Quando tirei do Egito os seus antepassados, nada lhes falei nem lhes ordenei quanto a holocaustos e sacrifícios.23Dei-lhes, entretanto, esta ordem: Obedeçam-me, e eu serei o seu Deus e vocês serão o meu povo. Vocês andarão em todo o caminho que eu ordenar, para que tudo vá bem a vocês.24Mas eles não me ouviram nem me deram atenção. Antes, seguiram o raciocínio rebelde dos seus corações maus. Andaram para trás e não para a frente.25Desde a época em que os seus antepassados saíram do Egito até o dia de hoje, eu enviei os meus servos a vocês, os profetas, dia após dia.26Mas eles não me ouviram nem me deram atenção. Antes, tornaram-se obstinados e foram piores do que os seus antepassados.27“Quando você lhes disser tudo isso, eles não o escutarão; quando você os chamar, não responderão.28Portanto, diga a eles: Esta é uma nação que não obedeceu ao SENHOR, ao seu Deus, nem aceitou a correção. A verdade foi destruída e desapareceu dos seus lábios.29Cortem os seus cabelos consagrados e joguem-nos fora. Lamentem-se sobre os montes estéreis, pois o SENHOR rejeitou e abandonou esta geração que provocou a sua ira.
O Vale da Matança
30“Os de Judá fizeram o que eu reprovo”, declara o SENHOR. “Profanaram o templo que leva o meu nome, colocando nele as imagens dos seus ídolos.31Construíram o alto de Tofete no vale de Ben-Hinom, para queimarem em sacrifício os seus filhos e as suas filhas, coisa que nunca ordenei e que jamais me veio à mente.32Por isso, certamente vêm os dias”, declara o SENHOR, “em que não mais chamarão este lugar Tofete ou vale de Ben-Hinom, mas vale da Matança, pois ali enterrarão cadáveres até que não haja mais lugar.33Então os cadáveres deste povo servirão de comida para as aves e para os animais, e não haverá quem os afugente.34Darei fim às vozes de júbilo e de alegria, às vozes do noivo e da noiva nas cidades de Judá e nas ruas de Jerusalém, pois esta terra se tornará um deserto.
1The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:2“Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you men of Judah who enter these gates to worship the Lord. (Jr 18:11; Jr 26:13)4Do not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’ (Jr 7:8)5“For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly execute justice one with another, (Dt 24:14; Jr 22:3)6if you do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, or shed innocent blood in this place, and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, (Dt 6:14; Jr 7:5; Jr 13:10; Jr 25:6)7then I will let you dwell in this place, in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever. (Dt 4:40; Jr 3:18)8“Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail.9Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, make offerings to Baal, and go after other gods that you have not known, (Jr 1:16; Jr 5:2; Jr 7:6; Os 4:1)10and then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations? (Jr 32:34; Jr 34:15)11Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, declares the Lord. (Is 56:7; Jr 7:10; Ez 7:22; Mt 21:13; Mc 11:17; Lc 19:46)12Go now to my place that was in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell at first, and see what I did to it because of the evil of my people Israel. (Dt 12:11; Jz 18:31; 1 Sm 1:3; 1 Sm 4:3; Sl 78:60; Jr 26:6)13And now, because you have done all these things, declares the Lord, and when I spoke to you persistently you did not listen, and when I called you, you did not answer, (2 Cr 36:15; Pv 1:24; Is 50:2; Is 65:12; Jr 7:25; Jr 7:27)14therefore I will do to the house that is called by my name, and in which you trust, and to the place that I gave to you and to your fathers, as I did to Shiloh. (Dt 12:5; 1 Rs 9:7; Jr 7:10; Jr 7:12)15And I will cast you out of my sight, as I cast out all your kinsmen, all the offspring of Ephraim. (Ex 32:10; Dt 9:14; Jr 11:14; Jr 14:11; 1 Jo 5:16)17Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?18The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven. And they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger. (Dt 32:16; Dt 32:21; 1 Rs 14:9; 1 Rs 16:2; 2 Rs 23:13; 2 Cr 34:25; Jr 11:17; Jr 19:13; Jr 44:17; Jr 44:19; Os 7:4)19Is it I whom they provoke? declares the Lord. Is it not themselves, to their own shame? (Jó 35:6; Jr 51:51)20Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, my anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; it will burn and not be quenched.” (2 Cr 34:25; Jr 17:27; Jr 42:18; Jr 44:6; Lm 4:11)21Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices, and eat the flesh. (Jr 6:20)22For in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, I did not speak to your fathers or command them concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices. (Os 6:6)23But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.’ (Ex 15:26; Lv 26:12; Dt 4:40; Dt 5:33; Dt 6:3; Jr 11:4; Jr 11:7; Jr 42:6)24But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward. (Sl 81:11; Sl 81:12; Jr 2:19; Jr 2:27; Jr 3:17; Jr 8:5; Jr 15:6; Jr 32:33; Os 4:16)25From the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt to this day, I have persistently sent all my servants the prophets to them, day after day. (2 Cr 36:15)26Yet they did not listen to me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers. (2 Cr 30:8; Jr 7:24; Jr 16:12)27“So you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not listen to you. You shall call to them, but they will not answer you. (Jr 1:17; Jr 7:13)28And you shall say to them, ‘This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God, and did not accept discipline; truth has perished; it is cut off from their lips. (Jr 9:3)29“Cut off your hair and cast it away; raise a lamentation on the bare heights, for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.’ (Jó 1:20; Jr 3:2)
The Valley of Slaughter
30“For the sons of Judah have done evil in my sight, declares the Lord. They have set their detestable things in the house that is called by my name, to defile it. (2 Rs 21:4; 2 Rs 21:7; Jr 7:10; Jr 19:5; Jr 32:34; Ez 5:11; Ez 7:20)31And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I did not command, nor did it come into my mind. (Dt 17:3; Js 18:16; 2 Rs 23:10; Sl 106:38; Jr 7:21; Jr 31:40)32Therefore, behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when it will no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter; for they will bury in Topheth, because there is no room elsewhere. (Jr 7:31; Jr 19:6; Jr 19:11; Ez 6:5)33And the dead bodies of this people will be food for the birds of the air, and for the beasts of the earth, and none will frighten them away. (Dt 28:26; Sl 79:2; Is 17:2; Jr 12:9; Jr 16:4; Jr 19:7; Jr 34:20)34And I will silence in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, for the land shall become a waste.
